Chapter 301: Re-entering the Fifth Level

Lin Feng stepped into the curtain of light of the Dungeon's first floor, and the light suddenly dimmed.

The fluorescence of the moss flickered slightly on the rock walls, staining the karst cave in a faint blue.

Unlike the last time he came, it was no longer quiet and empty; the cave passages were filled with people everywhere.

Groups of Adventurers wearing white leather armor and carrying white weapons were scattered about; some were squatting on the ground, rummaging through the cracks in the gravel for Moon-Tear Moss.

Some held torches and chased Skeleton Soldiers behind stalactites.

Others gathered together to sort the collected moss, muttering, "This patch has a deep color; it might be a mutation."

"Look, look! The color of this moss is different!"

A young Adventurer squatted before the rock wall, using his fingers to push aside a layer of ordinary Moon-Tear Moss.

Revealing a small cluster of thick-leaved, amber-colored moss underneath, his voice even changed pitch.

"An amber moon-tear! It's really an amber moon-tear!"

A companion nearby leaned in, eyes wide as saucers: "We're rich, we're rich! Fifty Contribution Points!"

The young Adventurer carefully cupped the cluster of amber moon-tear in his hands and slowly placed it into a wooden box at his waist.

Closing the lid, he let out a long breath: "Let's go, search some more. This area might have more."

Lin Feng walked past them; several Adventurers looked up, saw him, and hurriedly stood up to make way.

He nodded and did not linger. The team moved quickly along the markers Arrow Eye had carved earlier; a clear arrow could be seen on the rock wall every few steps.

After walking for less than an hour, the exit curtain of light for the first floor appeared ahead.

Standing beside the curtain of light was Bai Yi.

He wore a half-body iron armor, his halberd propped on the ground, followed by ten Beacon Guards standing in a row behind him.

Every Adventurer entering the second floor had to first pass before them and show their Adventurer medal.

Bai Yi lowered his head to glance at the mission permissions recorded on the medal, only granting passage to those with missions for the second floor or above.

"Captain, I'm just going in to take a look. Is it okay if I don't take a mission?" an Adventurer tried to negotiate.

Bai Yi shook his head, expressionless: "No. You must have a mission for the second floor and above. Those are the rules."

The Adventurer sighed, turned, and left.

Bai Yi watched him leave, and out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of Lin Feng's group emerging from the cave passage. He immediately straightened his body and pressed his right fist to his chest: "Lord!"

The ten Beacon Guards behind him straightened up simultaneously, their movements perfectly synchronized.

Lin Feng nodded and led the team through the curtain of light, entering the second floor.

The Forest of Humus on the second floor was much quieter than the first floor; not many people could obtain second-floor missions, so the Adventurers walking in the Forest of Humus were sparse.

However, there was a clear path on the ground—not naturally formed, but trodden by people.

The grass was flattened, tree roots were snapped, and the muddy ground was full of footprints of varying depths, winding forward along the forest's terrain.

On both sides of the road, wooden stakes were driven into the ground at intervals, with white cloth strips tied to them, fluttering gently in the breeze.

The ceiling was a hundred zhang high, hung with glowing mycelium, shedding cold white light like moonlight.

The team walked along the main road for less than ten minutes before encountering a herd of Great-Horned Deer coming their way.

There were six in total, each carrying two large bamboo baskets on its back. The baskets were filled with grayish-black ore, which glinted with a dull metallic luster under the cold white light.

Driving the deer were several miners dressed in coarse cloth clothes, holding long whips that they cracked in the air from time to time, producing crisp snapping sounds.

Beacon Guards followed on both sides of the deer team, holding Long Halberds and warily watching the bushes along the road.

The leading Beacon Guard saw Lin Feng and hurriedly pressed his right fist to his chest: "Lord!"

Lin Feng nodded, his gaze falling on the ore in the bamboo baskets. The green of the copper ore and the silver-gray of the tin ore were mixed together, with several pieces of Red Nitre Stone Mine pressed at the bottom of the baskets, their dark red vein sections looking like clotted blood.

He showed a satisfied expression and said, "Hard work, everyone. Be careful on the road."

The deer team continued forward.

The miners bowed slightly to Lin Feng as they passed, their long whips cracking in the air, and the Great-Horned Deer quickened their pace accordingly.

One of the older miners lowered his voice and said to his companion, "The Lord personally came to the mine tunnels; it shows how important these ores are."

Another young miner replied in a low voice, "Then we must hurry up with the transport even more. We can't delay the Lord's great affairs."

The middle-aged miner in the lead turned back and glared at them: "Talk less and do more. Walk faster."

The three miners spoke no more, driving the deer team as they quickly disappeared into the depths of the mine tunnels.

Tie Dun watched the retreating backs of the deer team and muttered, "Those Marmot Monsters are natural-born miners; they can dig better than humans."

Zhao Hu chimed in casually, "They still need someone to manage them. Without a Beast Tamer, believe it or not, they would eat the ore."

Tie Dun was stunned for a moment: "Eat ore? Really? They can live on eating ore?"

Zhao Hu didn't have time to argue with him and ✧ NоvеIight ✧ (Original source) quickened his pace to keep up with the team, leaving behind a sentence: "Why do you care if they can live or not? Anyway, they're digging quite well right now."

The team walked for about another half hour, crossing the Forest of Humus on the second floor and entering the abandoned mine tunnels of the third floor.

At the entrance to the third floor, three massive mountains of ore were piled on both sides of the mine tunnels.

Beside the ore mountains, over a dozen Beacon Guards were patrolling, holding Long Halberds and warily watching every direction of the mine tunnels.

On the other side of the ore mountains, dozens of Marmot Monsters were busy.

Their chubby bodies shuttled between the ore piles, each carrying a small bamboo back-basket filled with ore.

Some were green copper ore, some were silver-gray tin ore, and some were dark red Red Nitre Stone Mine.

They walked to the front of the ore mountains, tilted their bodies, and the ore in their baskets clattered into the corresponding piles. Then they turned and ran to the Beacon Guards.

They tilted their heads up, their small black-bean-like eyes staring at the cloth bags at the Beacon Guards' waists.

A Beacon Guard pulled out a grayish-green pellet from his bag and squatted down, placing it in his palm.

The Marmot Monster reached out with its two small paws to hold the pellet, stuffed it into its mouth, and chewed with bulging cheeks, making a faint crunching sound before turning to run back into the depths of the mine tunnels to continue mining.

Lin Feng stood before the ore mountains, watching the Marmot Monsters running back and forth, the corners of his mouth curling up slightly.

Tie Dun was also entranced, muttering, "These little guys work even harder than I do."

Zhao Hu explained from the side, "That pellet was specially formulated by the Beast Tamers of Qingmu County according to the habits and tastes of the Marmot Monsters. The main ingredient is the waste residue of the Red Nitre Stone Mine, mixed with some grains and herbs. The cost isn't high, but the Marmot Monsters love it."

The team did not stay long on the third floor; they crossed the mine tunnels and entered the Plain of White Bones on the fourth floor.

On the Plain of White Bones of the fourth floor, the cold white light of the soul fire still hung from the ceiling, illuminating the shattered bones on the ground in a ghastly white.

The ruins of the White Bone Platform were still there, and the curtain of light leading to the fifth floor within the pile of shattered bones was still flickering with a faint blue light.

There were even fewer Adventurers here, with only a few scattered high-level Awakened clearing out the occasionally respawning Undead Warriors.

Lin Feng did not stop, leading the team straight to the entrance curtain of light for the fifth floor.

The words "Dungeon Fifth Floor Entrance" on the curtain of light flickered slightly under the cold white light, the runes at the edges slowly flowing.

He stood before the curtain of light and looked back at everyone behind him.

Tie Dun took his shield from his back and held it in his hand, his expression shifting from relaxed to serious.

Su Yurou gripped her bone healing staff, the emerald green runes on the staff lighting up.

Lin Feng took the Wildfire Spear from his back and held it in his hand.

He turned and stepped forward, entering the curtain of light.

The curtain of light rippled over him like water, feeling cool, and then disappeared. Behind him, eight figures entered one after another.
