SSS Awakening: Starting With Infinite Soul Copy
Chapter 181: The Outerschool Mission
3 days later...
"Good Morning Students,"
The voice resounded through the hall, coming from a man who was exceptionally tall.
Ever since White had fused with the Umbrawyr, he hadn’t met any students who were taller than him, but today, he finally found one, though he wasn’t a student nor an Instructor.
He was a Vice, and he was standing 3 meters tall based on White’s precise estimation.
"Today you embark on your first Outerschool Mission. After 7 months of training, the academy has determined that each of you is ready to make a change out there in the world, and this mission will be the first step towards that."
"Where are you going? What exactly is your mission?"
He asked rhetorically.
"It’s simple. About 3 days ago, a mini city got evacuated after being overrun by Supernaturals."
He began.
"Humanity has of course sent its forces and eliminated the Supernatural swarm, but according to our radars, they’ve realized some Supernaturals are still lurking around the city, hiding away."
"If those Supernaturals aren’t properly cleaned out, they would hurt the returning people, and cause more deaths."
"This... is where each one of you comes in."
He said.
"So this is a clean-up mission after the main fight has already been taken care of?"
A student asked.
"It is."
Vice Rohan said.
"But do not look down upon it. Though the swarm has been destroyed, the creatures that led this swarm attack were at the Deltadoid Level."
He said, and the students froze up at the name.
Deltadoid Level!?
That would require a Cosmic Rank expert to take care of.
"Though creatures like that have been wiped out, the Oiralords that are still hiding aren’t exactly things to underestimate."
"You crack down on these Oiralords, solo or in groups, your choice, and you seek to eliminate them."
"There’s a ranking for every creature you manage to take down. Points can’t be transferred from one student to another."
"Each one of you has to put in the work. A certain threshold of points is required for you to be eligible for the upcoming Outerschool Mission, while those with the top three most points will be given personal rewards for their achievements."
"As for what that is... I can’t reveal. But I can confidently say, it’s worth bleeding for."
"The duration of the mission lasts three days."
He said, and in the next moment—
SNAP!
His fingers snapped and a massive vortex appeared in the room.
"This will lead you directly to the awaiting jet where you will be taken straight to the city."
"Good luck students."
He said, and in the next moment, he disappeared into thin air, leaving only the vortex in the room.
A bit of hesitation lingered in the air, but was wiped out after the first student rose up and stepped into the vortex.
They all began to rise after, and soon White also stepped in, disappearing out of the hall.
When he reappeared, he found himself on a grassland and looking before him, there was a massive purple jet in wait, its hatch currently opened and students filing in.
In minutes, he had already taken his seat, and the jet thrummed to life, soaring into the sky.
It took an estimated time of three hours before the murmurs were silenced by the announcement.
"We’ve arrived at our destination, and we’ll be doing a direct drop from the sky. Please grab your parachute."
The pilot’s voice called out and they all turned up.
"Wait... what parachute?"
VROOOOOOOOOM!
One moment, White felt himself sitting in focus, and in the next, he was flying down through the sky... literally.
"At least they were honest about the direct drop part."
White mused, looking around and noticing students all scattered around in the sky.
Of course, they’d been thrown down without any parachutes whatsoever, but still, they were awakeners.
Many of the students were still able to react quickly, slowing themselves in their own special ways.
White didn’t do much at all, simply remaining rigid, and soon—
BOOOOOOOM!
He landed right on the ground, cracking open a gigantic pothole in the earth.
Seconds after he did—
VROOOOOOOM!
His hands shot to the side as he grabbed hold of a slimy tentacle whose ends ended with shrieking mouths.
It was a creature covered in goo and tentacles.
SCREEEECH!
It screeched out, sending more tentacles flying toward White, who outstepped every last one, spinning up into the sky before he descended with a kick that slammed into its head, blowing it to pieces and sending slime flying around.
The close students quickly avoided the slime, watching as it corroded the ground on contact.
A notification flashed in that moment, and it drew White’s attention.
[You have killed a Grade 5 Oiralord Creature!]
[+20 points gained.]
There was even a ranking, and since he was the only one who had killed a creature, he was the only one on it.
But not for long.
Literally 6 seconds later, a second name appeared, confirming another kill.
The students all began to move out, hurrying to gather more kills, with more names appearing on the rankings.
Seeing that made White clap his head.
"Idiots."
He mused, and then he began his search for Nova and Morgaine.
Since they were spread quite far, it was a bit of work tracking them down, and while he was on his path, he ran into someone.
It was the same dual-eyed girl he had seen in class.
She was standing there, hands to herself as she avoided the corpse on the ground.
Her eyes found White the second he also did, and he nodded, preparing to leave, but then noticed her walking toward him.
"If we’re going to be staying here for three days... we’ll need sleep, and with Supernaturals lurking everywhere, we need to find or create a safe house."
She said, and the answer made White’s eyes gleam.
That was exactly why he had called the students idiots.
They were there busy chasing down Supernaturals to go up the rankings, while forgetting that if night came, they would be exhausted and need to sleep.
Then they would just be prey to the same Supernaturals they were killing right now, since Supernaturals were even more active at night.
What they needed was safe ground.
It was surprising to see there was at least one with a brain to recognize that amongst them.
