Chapter 267: Retreat?!

The wind howled, carrying the scent of death as Kazuichi stood face to face with the Gigantic Omega Zombie. Its hulking frame towered over him, a grotesque behemoth with decayed flesh that glistened with dark, oily fluids. Its bloodshot eyes burned with mindless rage, each exhale a growl that echoed through the barren wasteland.

Without warning, the massive creature lunged forward, its colossal fists slamming into the earth like twin meteors. The impact sent tremors through the ground, fissures splitting open beneath Kazuichi’s feet. He barely had time to leap out of the way, feeling the rush of air as the monster’s blow missed him by mere inches. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Rolling across the cracked earth, Kazuichi sprang to his feet, daggers flashing in his hands. His body moved with fluid precision, every step a dance of speed and power. The meteorite ore he’d consumed had heightened his senses, making his muscles surge with newfound strength. He felt his body vibrating with energy, as if lightning itself had been trapped inside him.

Rushing forward, Kazuichi slashed at the Omega Zombie’s legs, aiming to cripple the beast and slow its movements. His twin daggers cut through flesh and bone with deadly precision, each strike carving deep gashes into the monster’s rotting limbs. Blood sprayed into the air, black and putrid, as the creature roared in agony.

But the zombie wasn’t slowing down. It swung one of its massive arms toward Kazuichi, the sheer force of its blow enough to send him flying backward. Kazuichi crashed into a boulder with a sickening thud, pain lancing through his ribs as the wind was knocked from his lungs.

Gasping for breath, he pushed himself up, spitting out blood. Not enough, he thought, his eyes blazing with determination. He couldn’t let this thing win. He couldn’t fail.

Summoning his Hybrid capabilities, Kazuichi called upon his Synthesis Blood Art. His muscles bulged as the power surged through him, veins glowing a fiery crimson. Water and lightning crackled around his body, arcs of electricity dancing along his skin as a swirling vortex of water spiraled around his feet. He was in overdrive now, his power at its peak.

With a shout, Kazuichi unleashed his attack. A torrent of water shot forward, crashing into the Omega Zombie’s chest like a tidal wave, knocking it off balance. Before it could recover, Kazuichi followed up with a burst of lightning, the electric surge slamming into the creature with blinding force. The air sizzled with energy, the acrid scent of ozone filling Kazuichi’s nostrils as the monster’s charred flesh crackled under the assault.

For a moment, the Omega Zombie staggered, its hulking body swaying as if it might collapse. But then, with an enraged bellow, it dug its claws into the earth, using its raw strength to push itself upright. Its eyes blazed with fury, and Kazuichi could see the madness that drove the creature forward, unrelenting and unstoppable.

"Dammit," Kazuichi muttered under his breath. This wasn’t going to be easy.

As the Omega Zombie charged again, Kazuichi darted to the side, narrowly avoiding the creature’s bone-crushing fists. His body blurred with speed, lightning sparking at his heels as he zipped around the battlefield, landing quick, precise strikes with his daggers. He targeted the monster’s weak points—the joints, the tendons, the decaying flesh—but it was like trying to bring down a mountain with a pair of knives.

Each time Kazuichi struck, the Omega Zombie retaliated with brutal force. Its fists slammed into the ground, sending shockwaves through the earth, shattering rocks and uprooting trees. One particularly savage blow caught Kazuichi off guard, a massive claw swiping across his torso. He was sent flying, skidding across the ground as blood poured from the fresh gash in his side.

Gritting his teeth, Kazuichi forced himself to stand. His vision blurred, and pain throbbed in every part of his body. He couldn’t keep this up for much longer. The creature was too strong, too relentless. But he wasn’t ready to give up. Not yet.

Summoning the last of his energy, Kazuichi activated his Synthesis Blood Art to its fullest extent. His body glowed with a crimson aura, his muscles rippling with raw power as water and lightning fused into one. Sparks flew from his skin, crackling and buzzing as arcs of electricity intertwined with the swirling vortex of water around him.

With a primal scream, Kazuichi dashed forward, his daggers flashing in the dim light. He moved faster than the eye could follow, a blur of motion as he struck the Omega Zombie with everything he had. His blades sliced through flesh and bone, each strike accompanied by bursts of lightning and torrents of water. The creature howled in pain, its massive body shuddering under the relentless assault.

But the Omega Zombie was still standing. Despite the damage, despite the wounds Kazuichi had inflicted, the monster refused to fall. It roared in defiance, raising both of its massive arms high above its head, ready to crush Kazuichi in one final, devastating blow.

Kazuichi’s heart raced as he saw the attack coming. He was too close, too drained to dodge. Time seemed to slow as the creature’s fists came crashing down toward him, the earth trembling beneath its weight.

In a last-ditch effort, Kazuichi thrust both of his daggers upward, channeling the full force of his Hybrid powers into the blades. Lightning crackled through the air, arcing from his body into the daggers as he met the Omega Zombie’s attack head-on. There was a deafening explosion as the two forces collided, a blinding flash of light that illuminated the entire battlefield.

The impact threw Kazuichi backward, sending him tumbling across the ground. He crashed into a boulder, his body limp and broken as he slumped to the ground. Pain wracked every inch of him, his vision fading as darkness threatened to take over.

As the dust settled, Kazuichi could see the Omega Zombie standing above him, its body scorched and battered but still very much alive. The creature’s massive form loomed over him like a dark shadow, its bloodshot eyes filled with rage. Kazuichi’s daggers had pierced its flesh, but they hadn’t been enough to finish it.

I... can’t... move... Kazuichi thought, his body refusing to obey his commands. He was done. He had given everything, and it hadn’t been enough.

The Gigantic Omega Zombie let out a low growl, raising one of its claws to deliver the final blow. Kazuichi’s mind raced, searching for a way out, but there was nothing. He was cornered, defeated, with no way to escape.

And then, in the distance, a sound reached his ears—faint but unmistakable like the beating of wings. A flock of birds took to the sky, startled by something... or someone.

Before Kazuichi could process what was happening, the Omega Zombie stopped, its head snapping toward the source of the sound.

Somehow, Kazuichi had escaped death, and the Gigantic Omega Zombie left him alone.
