She is the Side Character! — Watch Her Change her fate!
Chapter 493 - 492: Infinite Stream Cannon Fodder: Five Days of Classes 10
Li Chen and a few others moved to a different dorm, something Li Yao hadn’t expected.
Everyone now knows that under the rules, adventurers can’t kill each other, or they’d likely trigger a penalty. Especially being in such a peculiar place as a school, it could attract the attention of the school’s NPCs.
She thought Li Chen couldn’t do anything to her, but this happened instead.
Thinking about being alone in the dorm, where creatures could easily come knocking, her face turned grim with some regret; she wished she hadn’t said so much. Li Chen and them were really petty, moving out of the dorm over a few words.
Even though she had her life-saving measures, not likely to die in this instance, she hadn’t planned on facing creatures alone.
Not long after moving to the new dorm, Li Chen and the others heard a commotion from the next room. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Bai Qiaoqian, curious, opened the door to listen and quickly retreated, "It’s Li Yao, she’s moved next door."
"That sounded like Li Yao just now?" Ma Qin asked.
So what’s the commotion?
Bai Qiaoqian chuckled, "She’s saying she’s scared to sleep alone and wants to stay with others, but our class’s other girl’s dorms are all full." Due to some adventurers being eliminated, nearly every dorm, except Li Chen’s, had at least one vacancy. Many applied to switch dorms because adventurers felt safer in numbers, reducing the chance of being targeted by creatures, and were glad to fill vacant spots. The dorms were six-person rooms, and there’s already one classmate in theirs, making it nearly impossible for Li Yao to join, even if someone got eliminated, unless they agreed, and the class teacher wouldn’t force Li Yao in to avoid conflicts.
"Next door are other class’s NPCs," Li Chen said, knowing what Li Yao was up to, likely feeling that living with NPCs was no different from being alone.
The main reason she wanted to stay with others was to share risks with someone.
But she had a sharp tongue, constantly making sarcastic comments. Li Chen wasn’t one to take it lying down, disliking being taken advantage of. And since it was only verbal, without any direct attack, Li Chen couldn’t do much due to the rules and thus agreed with Bai Qiaoqian’s suggestion to switch rooms.
Li Yao probably knew she was hard to deal with, but she relied on the rule that prohibits self-destruction among players, leaving her untouched and thus fearless.
"So that’s how it is," Liao Jingyun responded, and the others came back to their senses.
They too had gotten quite fed up with Li Yao these past few days; living with her was a torment.
With the situation being akin to an actual school dorm environment, any disruptor made everyone uncomfortable.
In this instance, they also had their daily necessities to take care of, and recently, Li Yao loved monopolizing the bathroom for lengthy periods.
Luckily, Li Chen and the others had good terms with the rest of the dorms and would borrow their facilities when Li Yao occupied theirs.
Meanwhile, having no choice, Li Yao could only move into an all-NPC dorm.
Living with a few people is better than being alone.
At 11 pm, lights out, the adventurers welcomed their third night.
The creatures were indeed competitive; not long after the lights went out, Li Chen saw a dark figure. However, it seemed that every night, a different creature came to find her.
"Let’s arm wrestle."
"If you win, you can eat me; if I win, you stay put and guard the place."
Seeing the creature hesitate, Li Chen taunted, "What, are you afraid of losing?"
The creature, unable to withstand the bait, immediately extended its shadowy hand and nodded.
Li Chen could only hold off one creature, preventing it from going out to find others in the dorm; whether any other creatures got in was a matter of luck.
"You lost, so stay here and guard."
Even though it was a shadowy figure, Li Chen almost felt it was asking how it lost.
The creature still dumbly stared, while Li Chen closed her eyes to sleep, "You should keep your word, right?"
As long as the creature kept watch, others wouldn’t bother her; the rules seemed to be like that, or she wouldn’t insist on having one watch over her sleeping.
The creature bared its teeth, not aimed at Li Chen, just unable to believe it had lost.
The night passed, Li Chen awoke and scanned the dorm, noticing everyone was still present.
Without Li Yao, even if her roommates made noise, it wasn’t the frequent banging; whatever they did, it wasn’t loud. Also, no one was up early hogging the bathroom.
"Li Chen, did a creature come for you again?" Bai Qiaoqian asked because she’d called out twice shortly after lights out the previous two nights, with obviously no response, and she didn’t know what to say about it now.
Thankfully, Li Chen was skilled, or else who could handle being targeted by creatures every day?
"Yeah," Li Chen replied, "The creatures are quite competitive."
It didn’t really bother her.
She wondered how many were eliminated last night.
Only two nights left.
The tools to defeat the creatures should appear, and if adventurers could find one, passing this instance shouldn’t be a problem.
She didn’t need them and hadn’t planned on looking, as she couldn’t take them with her; if she could, she’d let Wei Wenlan use them. Thinking of Wei Wenlan, she wasn’t sure how he was doing, but she was confident he wasn’t in danger. He had many ways to save himself; even if he didn’t pass the instance, it was alright.
As long as she gathered enough coins here, she could eventually help Wei Wenlan clear five instances; Wei Wenlan wasn’t daft and wouldn’t be stuck forever.
Upon leaving the dorm, she saw Li Yao emerging pale-faced from the next-door dorm.
Li Chen glanced briefly before looking away; it seemed Li Yao had encountered a creature but was lucky enough to survive, albeit not in great shape.
Two nights left; it was uncertain if she could endure.
The creatures’ competitiveness was no secret; everyone should know now. Although many were initially reluctant to share, some revealed it for enough profit.
Li Chen didn’t mind sharing.
If she didn’t want to speak, she wouldn’t have talked much initially; besides, smart ones also figure it out themselves. There were many fools here, but quite a few were clever too.
In the classroom, Liu Mingming’s face was also pale, clearly having tangled with a creature.
"Seven got eliminated last night," Liu Mingming said; originally 11 were to encounter creatures, four survived, meaning tonight, 12 would encounter them.
Li Chen would stall a creature, but others might not; regardless of how they survived, they wouldn’t want to stay with a creature. Plus, some might prefer letting the creature eat others instead.
She had a hunch that the creature might stop seeking her.
Though nothing happened by day, many wandered about, and Li Chen guessed what they were doing — searching for tools to defeat creatures.
