Chapter 242: A Deal With A DæMon

"O you who have believed, do not follow the footsteps of Shatan. And whoever follows the footsteps of Shatan - indeed, he enjoins immorality and wrongdoing. And if not for the favor of Allāh(God) upon you and His mercy, not one of you would have been pure, ever, but Allāh(God) purifies whom He wills, and Allāh(God) is Hearing and Knowing." - Holy Quran Surah An-Nur 24:21

Within Mammon’s Forest, it is dark and there is no light source at all except for the moonlight shining through the very center of the shrubbery above.

At the middle of the woods, two Money Tree cloaked figures meet up and from their raised hoods the same voice is projected into the darkness.

MamMon DæMon: "So you told them?"

’Other’ MamMon DæMon: "Of course as well as discovered a new Sanguine Savior.

However, that boy she is engaged with noticed my nails, we should keep our attention on him and any pressing suspicion.

And you?

You gave that anti-DæMon clansman the little girl?"

MamMon DæMon: "Of course.

He appeared to take the role more seriously than we had originally planned.

Not only that, he apparently has no idea about his, nor his assistant’s bloodline.

’Other’ MamMon DæMon: "Let’s keep it that way."

MamMon DæMon: "Agreed.

Now, there is just one last knot to untie for the night.

Do you want to take care of it, or should I?"

’Other’ MamMon DæMon: "Why not the both of us?

I miss doing stuff together."

MamMon DæMon: "As always, we can never differ on anything.

You’re the only one I can trust,’Sis’."

’Other’ MamMon DæMon: "Right back at you, ’Sis’.

I guess that is the one thing we could thank our Völva mother for.

Alright let’s go."

[Erebus City Church 11PM]

Inside the newly built cathedral in pre-apocalypse Hanabi City now titled Erebus City, a sweating Jay is alone, praying in a dimly lit pew. He is kneeling, his hands are clasped, head down, and his eyes are closed.

Jay(praying): "God... I’m...

I’m sorry...

I’m sorry I was tempted by the powers of this alien eye and I now understand the repercussions from dancing with the devil’s temptations.

I don’t remember my life before this apocalypse, and I hope you truly haven’t given up on those of us left down here."

The struggling young man gets choked up as he tries to get his prayers out. His bottom lip quivering and his teeth clenched.

Jay(praying): "I...

I wanted to remember....

I thought these eyes would help me to remember.

To remember what my family looked like..."

He aggressively presses his forehead harder against his clasped together hands.

Jay(praying): "I didn’t mean to offend you, God, truly...

These eyes are evil, I get it now...

When I unlocked my ability... General Nephilim told me...

General Nephilim told me, ’if my IceEye couldn’t help me remember parts of my own life to make it better, maybe I could use my newly gained powers to help others forget horrible events in order make their lives better’..."

The three small flames of wax candles are his only close by source of light, other than one tiny dim light in the center of the place of worship.

Jay(praying): "And I did... I tried to do the right thing.

Not knowing anything about the extent of my ability...

He told me...

He told me about this girl...

That girl Persephone, she was...

She was..."

The man who took the young inspiring writer’s psychosis causing memory, knows very vividly, in the woman’s point of view, the exact scene leading up to, during, and after Persephone was the victim to being violently sexually assaulted by the ex-owner of Mount Decima.

Jay(praying): "Please God, I’m sorry!

I thought I knew what I wanted in this life.

I thought I knew what was okay and not okay to do with the body you gave me.

But now I’ve realized my mistakes!

I can’t give these memories back to Persephone but I cannot keep living with these feelings and memories I shouldn’t know...

Please forgive me.

Please don’t give up on me.

Please God, save me."

At the very end of the troubling prayer, the three candles near him go out.

From the shadows, in the darkest corners of the church, an echoing voice talks to the praying young man calling out to the Lord while in mental distress.

MamMon DæMon(echo): "...’Being moved with envy, they took certain low persons of reputation from amongst the common crowd, and getting together in a great number, the collective made an outcry in the town, eventually attacking the house of Jason with the purpose of dragging them all out to the people’."

The sudden interruption startles Jay, his eyes shoot open, and he stands up so fast that he accidentally hits his knee on the pew in front of him.

The immediate reactive cringing pain makes him sit down on the waxed wooden bench behind him, holding his knee.

MamMon DæMon(echo): "...’And when they were not able to find who they were searching for, instead they took Jason and some of his brothers by force before the rulers of the town, crying, These men, who have caused the world trouble have now come here’."

Jay looks around and sees nobody around him.

Jay: "Who’s there!?

I’m warning you, I’m an officer for General Nephilim!"

Jay goes to grab his only SunSword, and he unsheathes it.

The orange glow from the most up to date version of the Mountains weaponry gives off more light than the three small candles did.

The intimidating woman continues to psychologically taunt the soldier. This time, her voice is right behind him.

MamMon DæMon: "...’Jason is acting against the orders of Caeser, saying there is another King’..."

The young soldier takes a blind swing of his bright sword and whiffs at the air behind him.

Out of thin air, behind the panicked man, sitting in the pew in front of him with her back turned to him, and her hood over her head, is MamMon DæMon.

MamMon DæMon: "How are you-?"

Jay swings his sword forward before the DæMon can finish her sentence.

With incredible ease, MamMon stops the incredibly hot blade with the same orange Seiõr covering her hand as when she infiltrated the Sister’s hidden hideout and pressed the attacking soldier’s blade into his own face.

MamMon DæMon: *tsk* *tsk* *tsk* "As a responsible officer under the highly respected and impressionable General, you really shouldn’t be waving these things around."

Jay is stunned by the Seiõr ability of the unnaturally born woman and releases his grip on the handle to the burning blade.

While she continues talking, MamMon keeps her grip on the otherwise flesh melting metal.

MamMon DæMon: "As I was saying Boy, how are you this evening?"

Jay: "How long have you been here?"

MamMon DæMon: "Long enough to know you’re at wits end with your own ’God given ability’."

Jay: "These eyes aren’t made from God, they were made by Satan, the Devil, whoever is in control of all things evil is responsible for these curses."

MamMon DæMon: "Oh?

And you can say, for certain, that God didn’t birth those eyes as a counter to that who is ’in control of all things evil’?

How can you say for sure that you’re personal tribulations due to these interspecies gifts aren’t anecdotal and God has a plan to relieve you from that suffering?"

Jay: "I- But...

What are you getting at?"

MamMon DæMon: "What I am saying dear Boy, is that for those of us who have a certain ambition to truly change the world, or at the very least the lives of others around us, eventually we will force God to focus on our personal stories and work on making them more glorified."

Jay is speechless as he stands there, only the glow of the witch of Seiõr’s hand and his snatched SunSword illuminates his face.

He sits down behind and to the right of the woman talking to him without looking at him from her hood.

MamMon DæMon: "Take for the sake, our dear Persephone and her ’ability to be God’.

She has created the setting, the plot, and the conflict as her and her readers know it.

But over the worthy amount of time and Chapters she’s put in, there comes a call in her designed universe where she may need a certain type of character that makes their world better."

An agitated Jay leans forward and over the bench in front of him.

Jay: "What are you saying?!

That our existence is just a story for some audience’s entertainment and none of this matters?!

That all of our life choices have all been an illusion and every single one of us is just waiting to be chosen as the focused character for the next Chapter?!"

MamMon DæMon: "I did not say that, in fact.

What I am trying to tell you dear Boy, is that even if our lives are part of some shitty story, we can’t be the focal point to every plot or every Chapter, but we still however, have to live a backstory worthy enough for God to have to go back and determine that you’re a perfect fit."

Jay sits back down and puts his face in his hands.

Jay: "I just want to be free of this memory, Madame MamMon.

If you heard what I said while praying, you know I can’t just give this memory back to Persephone.

What kind of man would I be if I did?

It would be, in some sort of twisted way, like I was the one sexually assaulting her in the end. Not that scumbag.

I don’t know what to do..."

Under the brand new House of God, there is a moment of silence before the Scandinavian witch chuckles and lets out one of her quiet shorter laughs.

MamMon DæMon: "...ototoh...

Well dear Boy, you are in luck.

There may be an answer to both your prayers right before your very eyes, if you’re willing to make a little bit of a deal..."
