Chapter 192: An Unclear Perspective

*Darkness*

Isfet Narrating: *Ever since I could remember, my vision was always unclear, because I was born without a developed left eye and had refracted eyesight in my right.

No pair of glasses or contacts could fix it, and there was no guarantees that surgery would fix my vision either, even if I could afford it.*

The sounds of the wind rustling trees, birds chirping, and the smell of fresh grass can overload every one of the other senses.

An extremely blurry PoV opens their eyes.

The disabled view looks upward, blinking, but opening back up to an all green blurry vision. Suddenly a slow, descending object turns the vision to all black.

Isfet Narr.: *My first conscious memory, I can remember it so vividly and most definitely will never forget it.*

Blurry light returns to the PoV and a young girl’s giggle can be heard.

The vision moves and a blurry figure of a little girl is in front of the unclear perspective. The only feature anyone could make out of the impossibly difficult eyesight, is a familiar shade of bright red hair that stands out more than anything.

Red Haired Little Girl: "Hehe, how did you manage to do that, Izzy? Or was that just luck you caught a leaf with your face? Teehaaha!"

Isfet Narr.: *Since sight was never truly an option for the majority of my life, I was dependent on my other senses to get by, so the sound of my sister’s voice was how I knew I could feel comfort and safety in my surroundings.*

The PoV looks down at their blurry arm, and there is a small red dot moving slowly up the little appendage.

Isfet Narr : *My sister, Edom, was the only one I had in my unclear conscious life.

A year after I was born, our parents were murdered, leaving my sister and I homeless.*

Edom: "You know what I heard, Izzy?

I overheard one of the grown ups say there are magic little fairies, all over the world. There are actually more of them than people.

And whenever they give us humans one of their tiny kisses, that person can make any wish, and it will come true!"

The virtually unusable PoV blinks back to darkness.

Isfet Narr.: *Whenever my sister spoke to me, she wouldn’t use visual descriptors. So I never really knew I had a disability until I was older, but because of her, I never felt pitiful or ungrateful for my existence.

Because of Edom...*

Kid Bully 1: "Eww, look at her eye. Can she see with that? It looks like it’s filled with milk."

Kid Bully 2: "What the hell? Is she a pirate or something?"

The foggy sight opens, there is barely any light is the room but two dark silhouette figures are looming over the PoV. Suddenly another fuzzy silhouette but with bright red hair steps in between.

Edom(angry): "If you two... don’t back off..."

The boys snicker and the sounds of hands pushing her, with the red hair falling backwards towards the PoV, darkening it.

Isfet Narr.: *She was always willing to step up to anyone who picked on me.

Willing to risk herself...for me.*

The sounds of waves crashing on the sand, seagulls screeching above, and the smell of salt water replaces the setting.

Edom: "....zzzy! iiiIIIzzy, wake up! I got us ice cream!

Waahhh!"

There is sand being kicked up close by and the opaque vision opens back up to the "sight" of blurry shades of blue above tan.

Edom(spitting): "Paahhttuuuiii!"

Young Isfet turns her vision to see a taller, slightly longer red haired sister indicating she’s now a bit older.

Suddenly a soft hand grabs Isfet’s and a light brown waffle cone is placed in her palm. The careful hand then closes the blind girl’s hold around the treat.

A cold drop slides down and on the gripping pointer finger.

Edom: "Don’t worry Izzy, I made sure to lick all the sandy parts off, I’m sorry... I suck.

... tee...haa...ha..."

Isfet Narr.: *It wasn’t until I was a teenager, that I had my first notion about my guilt.

’Why was my selfless and caring sister cursed to take care of me, after our parents were taken from her forever?’*

The small unclear vanilla ice cream goes underneath the PoV before it closes back to dark.

Isfet Narr.: *When Edom met Esau, he became like a true big brother to me. Deep inside, I felt really relieved, knowing my dear sister had a helping hand in this world.

She of all people deserved one, since I couldn’t...*

The sounds of gentle house music being softly played in another room, ceramic plates being placed on a wooden table, and the smells of all types of foods, but the heavy wafts of apples and cinnamon overtake all.

Esau: "Here Izzy, could you please try some of this pie really quick.

Let me know if your sister will like it."

Isfet’s PoV opens back up.

Orange, yellows, and browns are the new blurry color palette for her.

She turns her head and a new hazy individual is in front of her.

Esau, with what looks like short spikey black hair, unlike his long black and red tipped hair of the future. He brings a spoonful of something to her mouth and Isfet willfully takes the bite.

Esau: "Eh! Careful, it might be hot!"

But without any pain Isfet’s PoV bobs up and down in a nod.

A sigh of relief, followed by a handsome chuckle comes from the young man as he rubs the back of his head.

Esau: "Yesss, heehaw! That’s a relief, thank you ’Iz’."

The blurry Esau takes a second to look around and make sure the coast is clear, then he leans in to whisper. He gets close enough Isfet’s PoV can barely make out the shade of green in both of his eyes.

Esau: "Hey, Iz...since you’re her only family, I wanted to ask you first...(swallows spit)

C-can I have your blessings so I can ask Edom to be my wife?

I promise, I’ll treat her right and help take care of the both of you, like the way she’s always deserved.

You know more than I do how much Edom deserves the ultimate happiness, right?

Please, Isfet, can I be your big brother?"

The PoV somehow gets even more blurry and a tear hits her hand. The hand gets raised to Isfet’s face to wipe her vision into darkness.

Isfet Narr.: *And he did. That night he proposed to her and we were both accepted by his large family with open arms.

It didn’t take long for his family to teach us about Ymir, along with the existence of Seiõr, and the two of us were immediately accepted by the universal energy, but we only went as far as to learn how to heal burns and cuts, unfortunately..."

*CRASH* *BANG* *BOOM*

Edom: "...isfet!....Isfet, wake up!"

The dark PoV opens back up to more pitch black with a quick flash from an outside explosion that barely lights up Edom’s fuzzy silhouette, then back to dark.

Esau: "Watch out, Edom! I’ll carry her!

Get to the bunker in the backyard!"

The PoV gets picked up and in fear, Isfet buries her face in the chest of Esau’s sweater as the sounds of doors opening to the world being invaded by Icemen.

Esau: "Quickly Hun, go down first!"

The slam of a heavy metal door silences the screams of the early invasion.

A small lantern light illuminates Isfet’s vision and the unmistakable figure with bright red hair is in front of her.

Edom: "Don’t worry Izzy, we’ll be okay, teehaaha! Just go back to sleep for now."

Isfet’s lays her head on her sister’s lap, and a soft hand pats her hair as her vision flutters back to sleep.

Isfet Narr.: *Whenever she laughed, I would have done or given anything to have a clear view, just for those few seconds, of the smile that produced the voice that I cherished.

Edom’s smile...

...

...

That’s why..."

The sounds of angry female grunting, a knife stabbing flesh and bone, then being pulled out, blood being flung, landing on the walls and hardwood floor. The periodic creaking of a metal bed frame accompanies every lunge.

Isfet Narr.: *...’I want to be there’... ’I want to be with them’... ’I want us to be together’... ’I don’t want to see, I just want us all to be safe and happy again’...

That’s what I repeated to myself the entire time I was murdering that scum of a man.*

This goes on and on and on for several more minutes.

Isfet Narr.: *I didn’t care if I failed and he ended up killing me instead. If this were to be the rest of my visionless existence, without Edom, I would rather die and end this suffering.

*STAB*

My whole life, I’ve been dependant on others to take care of me and lead me towards safety.

*STAB*

To feed me.

*STAB*

To cloth me.

*STAB*

To bathe me.

*STAB*

Everyday..."

As the horrible sounds stop, the blurry PoV opens back up.

The only color in the eyesight is...a familiar bright red.

Isfet Narr.: *I took the only opportunity in life I was given.

I had sacrificed my body in place of my pregnant sister, to become a ’pet’ for that drunken pervert.

His ignorance allowed me time to feel around for a weapon and after a night of forcing me to please him, I killed that bastard in his sleep.*

A drip of blood falling from the point of the knife hits her bare foot and Isfet’s heavy, crying breathing is the only noise left.

Isfet Narr.: *Because of the chaotic laws of the land, I knew if there was proof I had killed my master, I could become a citizen.

I could free Edom and Esau, however...*

From the all red PoV, small squealing of the alien symbiote confuses her.

Quicker than an instant, "something" covers Isfet’s only source of vision, causing her darkness one last time.

A mysterious female voice is heard.

Mysterious Voice: "You are the same as me, and I am the same as you.

Maybe we can help each other find happiness?"

The steady beeping from a heart monitor is the first sense triggered to fill the newest dark silence, followed by the sounds of a nurse.

Nurse: "...102 stab wounds, and the news spread so fast, I heard the Don Laban already knows about it.

Somehow.

If the results from the rape kit came up positive, I’m not surprised.

Honestly, I wish these incidents of victims killing their oppressors would happen more. Maybe it would "clean up" this thug city a bit.

Poor thing is missing her left eye and that damn Eyelien took her human eye.

*sighs*

Let’s go get her paperwork ready for when she wakes up."

Two sets of footsteps walk farther away and a door softly closes shut with a *click*.

Isfet’s PoV opens back up, however this time, the foggy vision becomes crystal clear, after a few blinks. The view of a hospital ceiling is seen and then looks around the single patient room.

Isfet Narr.: *A hospital ceiling, and an empty, dim, hospice room.

My first clear view of the world was nothing bright, nothing wonderful. It was a just a room, without any windows, scuffed tile floors, and the stench of too much bleach.

Unsure of what to do, I sat there in silence until someone came in.

Unbeknownst to me at the time, it was as if the world’s was playing a cruel joke on me, that person just so happened to be...*

The door swings open and with her brand new eyesight Isfet’s PoV calmly looks over.

A smirking Don Laban(with her previous face tattoo teardrop outlines) her Eyelien at 2nd stage, a smokey grey aura, struts in, smoking a blunt.

Don Laban: "Mornin’, Killah! Congrats on becoming a citizen, and in a fuckin savage way too!

Stabbin a mutha fuckah a hunnit-n-two times?! That’s some gangsta ass shit right dare!

In fact, you’re dah first person of dis here city to acquire an Eyelien dat specific way. Most of deez other pansies can only kill creatures that aren’t human, but you..."

With a sad Zoram slowly tagging behind, she shuffles in and closes the door. Standing off to the side. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Don Laban: "Aye, I don’t gotta lotta time right now, and I don’t do dis often, but I gotsa proposition for ya. Ya know, now dat you’re a proven fighter ’n all."

The newly acquired sight of the PoV gets locked on, as Isfet and Don Laban EyeEngage.

Isfet Narr.: *It turned out, the very first person I saw with my new perspective of life, also ended up being the person who had killed the only human I wanted to see at all.

Don Laban DaeMon.

I just hadn’t known it yet...*

A gorgeous nurse, without an Eyelien, but two orange eyes and a pink collar, walks back in with a folder and perks up in surprise seeing the Don, Zoram, and the awakened patient.

Nurse: "Oh, Madame Don Laban! Madame Zoram! I’m so sorry!

I’ll-"

Before the nurse can excuse herself, the Don’s intimidating shout make her freeze in fear.

Don Laban: "Aye, don’t you go anywhere, beautiful!"

Before leaving, the Don puts a fresh green rolled cigarillo and a lighter on the side desk of the hospital bed, then breaks the EyeEngagement.

Without anyone else in the room seeing, Laban takes a hit of her own blunt and with a half smile puffs the smoke into Isfet’s face.

Don Laban: "Hurry up here, and when you finish up, I’ll come find ya."

Don Laban ashes her blunt onto the floor, and makes her way out of the hospital room, talking to Isfet.

Don Laban: "Now that you have your rights, give these guys your name and basic information. I always got a spot on my roster for hardcore bitches like yourself.

Lezzgo Zoram, we gotta give a decision on what to do with that butthurt guy, crying over his dead bitch."

Zoram: "Yes, Don Laban."

Leaving Isfet alone with the nervous nurse, the orange eyed woman relaxes and looks over at the patient.

Nurse: "L-let me tell the cafeteria it’s okay to bring you food!"

She quickly steps out the room leaving Isfet completely alone once again.
