Chapter 366: Mother in law

When the eerie voice died down Qie Xieling couldn’t help but whisper, "I also want to get out of here but I am stuck. If you help me open the elevator door I would be very grateful," while carefully moving forward.

He wanted to turn back but he also knew that the only way was to move forward. He didn’t know when or if he was going to get rescued so he decided to suck it up and keep moving.

He had outgrown his phase of scaring easily but the atmosphere was especially eerie and his nerves were tense. With each step, his trepidation grew, but he kept walking, his senses heightened and his mind alert.

Suddenly a flicker of movement caught his eye. Qie Xieling turned swiftly but found nothing only the empty corridor stretching before him. He was starting to think that maybe he was hallucinating yet he couldn’t shake the feeling that someone, or something, was watching him from the shadows just waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

A few more steps and there was a sudden shift in the atmosphere. The deserted corridor seemed to come alive with eerie whispers. The disembodied voice echoed through the empty hallway, taunting him, and the walls seemed to close in, suffocating him with their sterile whiteness.

"Shit," he swore under his breath. His heart was pounding in his chest, and a thin layer of cold sweat coated his brow. Qie Xieling had to admit that he was truly scared.

A door suddenly slid open and the corridor light turned off with the only source of light coming from the room as though urging him to go in.

His heart raced as he stood frozen contemplating whether to go in or not. His back suddenly felt ice cold and he shivered subconsciously. It was as though the temperature in the corridor had been lowered deliberately so as to force him to move forward.

Left with no choice, Qie Xieling stepped into the room and his blood ran cold as his eyes fell on the woman trapped in a glass case filled with gel-like liquid. Her ethereal beauty was marred by her pale, lifeless complexion, and her eyes were closed seeming peaceful but her missing limb told a different story. A story of violence and grim. Qie Xieling subconsciously took a step forward and with a swoosh, the door closed behind time.

The room suddenly echoed with eerie laughter, sending shivers down Qie Xieling’s spine. He turned back and tried to get out but as expected that door was now locked too.

Summoning every ounce of courage, Qie Xieling managed to find his voice, trembling as he spoke, "Who are you?"

The woman’s laughter subsided as she replied, "I am the spirit of a long-forgotten soul, trapped within the confines of this vessel," she whispered in a mournful tone. "This warship holds secrets that should never be unearthed."

Qie Xieling’s curiosity mingled with his terror as he cautiously approached the glass case. He came closer to examine the woman’s delicate features, frozen in eternal melancholy. The room’s pure white walls seemed to enhance the chilling ambience, amplifying the sense of unease. But in place of fear, there was a feeling of familiarity like he had seen this face before.

"You shouldn’t be here," the woman repeated, her voice filled with warning but the person she was trying to scare was looking at her closely which was quite unsettling. "Leave this place while you still can."

Qie Xieling raised his finger trying to figure out where exactly he had seen her before. Once the question was stuck in his mind he couldn’t let it go. His determination to find out the answer to that question almost made him forget that he was still frightened. He poked the glass while asking, "Where have I seen you before? Is it in a movie? Tsk... maybe you are a celebrity or something," he whispered, his voice barely audible.

The fake ghost, "..."

This was some BS. Where was the screaming and running she was anticipating? What fun was it to lock people on this deck for her amusement if they weren’t scared? Determined to regain the upper hand she flickered the lights while her laughter erupted once more, reverberating through the room like a haunting melody.

Qie Xieling recoiled, his heart pounding in his chest, as the woman’s words filled the air. "Curiosity killed the cat, my dear," she taunted. "And now, it seems you shall share the same fate."

In a surge of panic, Qie Xieling turned on his heel, desperate to escape the encroaching darkness. He sprinted towards the door. As though he had been granted mercy the door slid open and he ran out, his footsteps echoing against the silent walls. The woman’s haunting laughter pursued him, growing louder and more sinister with each passing moment. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

As Qie Xieling rounded a corner, he finally spotted the flickering lights of the elevator and the panel seemed to be working. Relief flooded over him, but it was short-lived. Just as he reached the elevator doors, they slid open with a creak, revealing nothing but an empty shaft and an endless abyss.

Qie Xieling saw his life flash before his very eyes. Just as he thought he was going to die from fright he heard a familiar voice bouncing off the walls.

"Mom, are you scaring my crew again?" said Luo Muchen through the psa and Qie Xieling exclaimed,

"Miss Luo?"

Luo Muchen’s brows furrowed when he heard that voice. "Shit," he swore before he ended the call. He couldn’t let his mother be alone with Qie Xieling. It was the worst possible move, especially with the level of shamelessness Qie Xieling had.

"Ha. Well, that was fun while it lasted," said Luo Shih before a five-dimensional holographic image of her materialised and she walked back to the room with the glass case.

Qie Xieling followed after her and when he entered he noticed that the room had changed its setup.

There was a red velvet chaise, a soft fluffy carpet and on the coffee table were flowers. Everything seemed to have materialised out of nowhere.

Luo Shih lay on the chaise while complaining. "Ahh so bored."

Qie Xieling glanced at the glass case again. The physical body was still there lying still in the glass case and there were machines around probably keeping her alive.
