Return of the Immortal Emperor Daddy - Chapter 406 - 408 Missiles, Launch! [4/7]
Wu Tian was determined to continue his massacre. He would wipe Fusang from the face of the earth until its name was no longer uttered among the nations.
When Wu Tian saw the Dragon Country military aircraft attempting to dissuade him again, he waved a hand dismissively. "Scram!" he said, his tone detached.
Instantly, the air currents in the sky turned tumultuous, sweeping all of Dragon Country’s jets away. Wu Tian, riding the Phoenix, continued toward North Sea Avenue. The soldiers aboard the Dragon Country aircraft could only watch, dumbfounded, as he departed.
"Why is he so obsessed? It’s impossible for one man to destroy a country. He’ll just force our country into paying reparations. This is a classic case of one man bringing disaster upon his nation, no different from Zhao Kuo’s armchair strategizing," a soldier remarked. Though a man, he spoke with a sharp, spiteful tone.
Hearing this, Ye Tianshi moved to intervene, but the soldier’s eyes suddenly went wide. Then, his body exploded into a fine Blood Mist.
The scene shocked everyone. To think that Wu Tian could kill from a distance, without even being present! They didn’t dare speak ill of him behind his back again.
"There’s no need for discussion," Ye Tianshi said with a sigh. "Our only mission is to escort him back. If he refuses, we follow him and intervene only when absolutely necessary."
Ye Tianshi now held the title of "Young Marshal" in the military. He was different from the historical "Young Marshal Zhang" who once threatened Mr. Jiang in the Northeast. Ye Tianshi was a descendant of General Ye. He had joined the military and worked his way up from the bottom ranks. It was only recently that his lineage became known, and he was genuinely respected by his troops.
"Yes, sir!" they all agreed. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
The Dragon Country military jets followed closely behind Wu Tian.
"Look! Fusang’s new fighter jets are ahead of Wu Tian!"
"Young Marshal, should we provide support?" the soldiers began to ask for instructions.
Fusang’s air force was nothing to scoff at. It was ranked fourth in the world. Its military was composed mainly of aviation troops, anti-aircraft missile units, and radar warning forces. The Fusang Air Self-Defense Force was a combined air-to-air and air-defense force with sophisticated weaponry and highly-trained personnel, making it one of the few nations in Asia equipped with F-15 fighter jets.
And now, appearing before Wu Tian were modified F-15 fighter jets.
The Dragon Country warriors felt they had to help Wu Tian. How could one person, no matter how powerful, face an entire aerial squadron of F-15s?
After a moment of contemplation, Ye Tianshi ordered, "Everyone, hold for now!"
But they could only watch as Wu Tian, riding the Phoenix, charged straight at the F-15 squadron. A storm of bullets and sparks erupted from the fighters, their firepower immense. RAT-A-TAT-TAT! The sound was as thunderous as a raging storm.
The next moment, Wu Tian and the Phoenix beneath him were engulfed by the munitions. An explosion swept through the sky. Seeing this, the soldiers aboard the Dragon Country jets shook their heads, believing Wu Tian was dead.
"Young Marshal, the Supreme Leader ordered us to escort Wu Tian back. Now that he’s dead, what do we do?"
"Young Marshal, you were the one who ordered us to wait and see, which is why we didn’t save him. Now that he’s dead, you’ll be taking responsibility for this, right?" You can’t please everyone, and Ye Tianshi was no exception. There were those in the military who disliked him.
Ye Tianshi sighed.
Just then, amid the roaring explosions, the Fusang F-15s spotted the Dragon Country jets, and a conflict immediately erupted between them.
"People of Dragon Country, this is a shameless invasion!" a Fusang pilot shouted.
Ye Tianshi scoffed. "Could I possibly be more shameless than you Fusangs?"
The warplanes of the two great nations clashed. For a time, the jets weaved back and forth in a furious dogfight, with neither side gaining an advantage.
As the smoke from the explosion drifted away on the wind, Wu Tian was revealed, standing atop the Phoenix’s head, completely unscathed.
The pilots of both the Fusang and Dragon Country jets took notice. The soldiers in the Dragon Country aircraft were utterly stupefied, at a loss for words. The Fusang pilots in their fighters also stared, aghast.
"He’s still alive?!"
"Impossible... Does this mean we have to launch missiles?" The Fusang pilots realized they were powerless against Wu Tian.
Unbeknownst to anyone in the air, the Fusang army was already in position on the ground below. The Chief Minister had informed them long ago that Wu Tian would pursue them and had instructed them to lie in ambush here. The missiles were ready.
"Fire!" the army marshal commanded.
The soldiers’ pupils contracted. In the sky above, along with Wu Tian and the Dragon Country jets, were their own air force units.
"The Chief Minister said that some sacrifices are necessary. You are soldiers; you cannot afford compassion. Obey my command! Launch the missiles!" the army marshal declared, his face a cold mask. He, too, felt the move was cruel. The surrounding Fusang civilians would likely be caught in the blast. But the Chief Minister’s orders had to be carried out. At his command, the missiles finally launched.
BOOM!
The missiles soared into the sky. This scene, witnessed by the Fusang and Dragon Country air forces, was also captured by reporters. Everyone was shocked. Why would Fusang choose to launch missiles at this location, at this time?
They were supersonic cruise missiles, roaring up from the earth. They tore through the air, streaking toward Wu Tian with unparalleled momentum. The Fusang soldiers in their fighter jets turned pale; the missiles would surely hit them as well.
"What in the world is the army doing?"
"Whose order was this? The Chief Minister’s?" Some of the air force pilots began to doubt him.
"No, it definitely wasn’t an order from our great Chief Minister. The Chief Minister loves his citizens. When he visited the air force, he was so kind and approachable. He’s a benevolent old man. How could he issue such a cruel military order?" But there were still die-hard loyalists in the air force. They firmly believed this was a unilateral action by the army and had nothing to do with their benevolent Chief Minister, who loved his people like his own children.
Inside his jet, Ye Tianshi, who was usually calm, now panicked. "Everyone, get out of here!" he shouted urgently.
A missile of this power could easily split a hundred-story skyscraper in half. Its blast radius covered dozens of meters, and the shrapnel would spread even farther. Ye Tianshi knew the missile was aimed at Wu Tian, but his own forces were bound to be hit by the shockwave. The cities near North Sea Avenue below would inevitably suffer from the collateral damage.
Standing on the Phoenix, Wu Tian knew that neither the mythical beast nor he could stop the missile. But Wu Tian’s body was immortal and indestructible—the body of an Immortal Emperor. He couldn’t stop the missile, but he could withstand the impact.
With this thought, under the horrified gazes of everyone watching, Wu Tian leaped from the Phoenix. He didn’t dodge the missile as everyone else did. Instead, he charged head-on toward the missile ascending from below.
BOOM!
A massive explosion erupted. A terrifying mushroom cloud enveloped an area dozens of meters wide, and the shockwave radiated outward, effortlessly demolishing buildings one after another.
In Yang City, Qin Yuhan was watching the events on television. As she witnessed the explosion, tears streamed from her beautiful eyes.
