Chapter 653: Chapter 653: Please, Spare My Children

After he reached a certain age, he stopped regretting things and simply watched how the world changed. His life became a boring monochrome after a while.

And yet, when he realized he liked Arabella, it was as if everything fell into place and he felt that he needed to keep her by his side this time.

The thought ’this time,’ made him question himself and made him wonder why he thought that way.

He was sure he was about to recall something about it but nothing came to mind.

And now, his life was very colorful with Arabella with him.

After she wrote the note about Count Morbal doing such things, he was so embarrassed that she had to be the one to point out, that something was going on yet again.

If he could simply listen to everyone’s thoughts as he and his fellow primordials used to be able to do, it would have been easier figuring these people out.

It was rather a wonder that Arabella happened to have such an ability.

Humans like her exist every now and then. They get their own kind of blessings from their Creator just like Ferdinand and the other kinds do from their Creators.

Thanks to Arabella’s ability, they could understand each other much better. Especially since Ferdinand could not help but panic in everything related to her.

He used to be so calm and never even panicked. But when it comes to anything about her, he loses his mind in an instant.

It hurt his pride sometimes, but he could not apply his pride to Arabella. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

Losing her was so much worse than anything so Ferdinand set aside his pride when it came to her.

Still, things like Count Morbal and Count Sibruh’s situation were so irksome. He did not want Arabella to overwork herself here; and yet, these people just kept making more work.

Even with magic on their side and the long-lived races Ferdinand had with him here, they were outnumbered.

They also do not understand humans very well either since humans change too quickly.

Moreover, they had their limits in their stay here so they could not use magic and their mana freely. Thus, there was a limit to how many times they could return to a territory.

Alwin had so much mana that he could teleport almost freely but the others could not.

Thus, at times, oversight like this could still happen even when Ferdinand and Raymond already sent them out to scour Valeria for problems.

Likewise, humans were so tricky. After hearing about what happened in Prudencia and Safiro, everyone acted quickly too so if they hid anything before Ferdinand’s people arrived, they could have managed to hide problems.

Alwin’s new invention was still in the testing stage as well so it could not be deployed in the entire empire yet. It would take a toll on Alwin and the others if they supplied it with mana all the time so they were still experimenting more on it.

Ferdinand could just teach them how to improve it but he and the other primordials were forbidden from leaking important knowledge of the past civilizations to the current civilization even to long-lived races.

They were not allowed to teach something that could hasten the improvement of this era and likewise hasten its end.

Just like they used to do for eons, they would simply watch and let things be. Helping out to try to prevent things never ended well so Ferdinand understood why the gods prohibited it.

The humanoid monsters appearing was one of the signs that this era might be close to its end. But it would likely be several thousands of years more before that.

It was not yet time for this era to end so the gods saved it from ruin after the Great War.

And yet, no matter the era, humans are so quick to change to the point where a lot of troublemakers like Count Morbal, Adolfo, Gulliver, and all the others appear.

The magicians who had been roaming around doing suspicious things were even more trouble. They were hastening the end of this era with the madness they were doing.

’They better not have any more of that humanoid monster from last time.’

Ferdinand sighed deeply as he thought of the future. He did not want anymore more disturbances that would keep him away from Arabella.

If not for the new rules between the longlived races and the humans, and if Arabella was not human, Ferdinand would have just gone back to Estrella and simply watched this civilization hasten their end.

But now that the long-lived races’ numbers relied on humans, they had to help out humans too when necessary.

They had to maintain Valeria as well. Letting humans get too close to Estrella would not bode well.

Ferdinand heaved another sigh as he glared at Count Morbal, making the latter shiver.

"You are wasting too much of my time. Are you going to keep making up your lies or should I just execute you on the spot?" Ferdinand asked in irritation.

Count Morbal paled in fear and shivered. It got worse to the point his whole body shook. He finally knelt on all fours and said, "My deepest apologies, Your Imperial Majesty. This humble servant became too greedy and made a mistake. Please forgive me just this once, I won’t do it again."

Ferdinand sighed once again, and said, "Who among these children of yours is the most capable?"

"Please spare my children, they had no hand in this," Count Morbal pleaded once again.

Ferdinand sighed and glanced at the Count’s children.

"Who among you is confident that he could rule Morbal so much better than your father?" Ferdinand asked them instead.

Morbal’s sons gulped nervously. They glanced at each other and their eyes rested on the eldest who was the one who was the current heir and the latter glanced back at them.

Ferdinand was sure they would have competed a lot on who would be the heir, and yet, they were not willing to step up now.
