The office door closed, and Wu Yun looked up to see Wu Ying and Jiang Xinyi walking toward him.

Jiang Xinyi’s voice was soft, sweet, and incredibly alluring. "Little brother, you were asking about dinner tonight. I’ll go home and make you a delicious meal as a reward."

Wu Yun smiled. "I’m not in the mood for noodles. I want seafood. I heard there’s a pretty good seafood restaurant."

"Can’t we just buy some and cook it at home? Do you have to eat out?" Jiang Xinyi whined playfully.

Wu Ying, standing behind him, began kneading his shoulders. Whenever a situation like this arose, she would just quietly watch Jiang Xinyi.

"Fine, let’s just cook at home then!"

On the evening of August 2nd, after the company dinner ended and he had paid the bill, Wu Yun said goodbye to Wu Ying and Jiang Xinyi and started driving toward Jingyang.

He recalled the thrilling and risky events of the previous night, a memory that filled him with a mix of excitement and lingering fear. Last night, while he was eating noodles, he had received a video call from Bai Yue. She told him she had gotten home safely and asked what he was up to.

Suddenly, Wu Yun had winced and frowned slightly. Bai Yue asked with concern, "What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"

"It’s nothing, just a bit of a stomachache." Wu Yun had glanced at Wu Ying, who was busy working, and said with a smile, "I can’t talk anymore, I have to go to the bathroom. I’ll come pick you up when you get back!"

After he hung up the video call with Bai Yue, Jiang Xinyi teased, "So, little brother, is your girlfriend pretty?"

"She’s beautiful, alright. Too bad all I can do is look for now!" Wu Yun said with a sigh of resignation.

Just as Wu Yun was about to make his next move, the distinct ringtone of a WeChat video call rang out again. He glanced at his phone and saw it was Qi Fei. He suddenly remembered this was the time he was supposed to have his nightly chat with her.

Wu Yun answered the call. Looking at Qi Fei’s pretty face on the screen, he smiled. "Senior, what’s the occasion? You’re the one calling me today."

"Wu Yun, you’re late. A full half-hour later than usual. So I had to check in on you myself and see which little cutie you’re out on a date with," Qi Fei said jokingly, though her eyes held a probing gaze.

"I was just on the sofa, working on a plan for a new company. I got so caught up in it that I lost track of time." Wu Yun quickly changed the subject to distract her.

As expected, Qi Fei’s attention was successfully diverted. "A new company?" she asked. "What kind of company? Do you have so much money you don’t know what to do with it?"

Wu Yun’s eye twitched. He forced a smile and said, "I just had a new idea for a game. I think it could be really profitable, so I’m writing up the business plan now. The next step would be to acquire a game company to develop it."

"It sounds to me like you really do have more money than you know what to do with! I just saw the news that your Nirvana Technology signed a three-billion-yuan contract with Phoenix Bicycle. Is that true?" Qi Fei was astonished. It wasn’t surprising she knew the name of his company, since they talked every day.

Wu Yun laughed. "It’s not quite that much. The total contract is for 2.75 billion, and it’s not a lump-sum payment. It’s paid out in stages. We’ve only received the first thirty-million-yuan deposit... Oof."

"What’s wrong? You’re not feeling well?" Qi Fei asked, her expression turning inquisitive.

"Just a stomachache. I need to use the bathroom!" Wu Yun said, about to hang up.

"Wait! I haven’t even told you why I called. You’re going back to Jingyang tomorrow, right? The day after, you’re coming with me to my Subject Three driving test. After I pass, we’ll go pick up my roommate! If you’re not at my house the morning after tomorrow, you’re dead meat!" Qi Fei threatened, before blowing him a kiss.

After hanging up the WeChat call, Wu Yun wiped the sweat from his forehead.

By the time Wu Yun arrived in Jingyang, it was already 10 PM. He saw two missed video calls from Qi Fei but didn’t call her back. Instead, he sent a message: "Senior, I’m in Jingyang. I’ll come get you at seven tomorrow morning!"

After washing up, Wu Yun went to bed early, needing to recover the energy he had expended the previous night.

Early the next morning, Wu Yun woke up before his alarm. It was often the case that when you had something important on your mind, your internal clock was more reliable than any alarm.

At seven o’clock sharp, Wu Yun pulled up to the entrance of Qi Fei’s family villa. You didn’t need to ask how he got into the gated community; his Big Black Bull was its own access card. After he registered at the security booth, the guard simply waved him through.

Qi Fei, dressed in a t-shirt and shorts and carrying a duffel bag, excitedly hopped into the passenger seat. Wu Yun stowed her bag in the front trunk before driving off. Neither of them noticed the figure of Qi Guo standing on the villa’s second-floor balcony.

After getting in, Qi Fei sniffed the air inside the car. "Wu Yun, let’s go grab some breakfast first."

With that, she began directing him toward a fast-food place just outside the neighborhood.

By the time they reached the examination center, a large crowd of test-takers was already waiting outside the main gate.

Wu Yun found a level parking spot and parked, then got out to open the door for Qi Fei.

’What a gorgeous girl,’ was the common thought among the onlookers. ’Too bad she’s already taken.’

Wu Yun watched Qi Fei enter the test area. He knew her test number was one of the first, but having been through this before, he also knew she wouldn’t be out anytime soon. After all, even if you pass the Subject Three road test, you still have the Subject Four theory exam.

So, Wu Yun decided to just head to the teahouse across the street from the center. He ordered a pot of tea and played games on his phone while he waited.

A little over an hour passed.

Just as Wu Yun was getting absorbed in his game, he heard someone calling his name. "Wu Yun! Wu Yun!"

Wu Yun looked up. It was a familiar face, but he couldn’t for the life of him remember her name. She was a high school classmate, but she hadn’t been at the recent small reunion.

Feeling awkward, Wu Yun decided on a preemptive strike. "Hey! What are you doing here? What part of the test are you taking today?"

The former classmate replied, "Subject Two. Getting this license is a nightmare. This is my second attempt! What about you? Subject Three?" ’Guys usually pick this stuff up faster than girls,’ she thought.

"I already got my license," Wu Yun explained. "I’m just here with my older sister for her test." ’Everyone in our class knows I’m with Bai Yue,’ he thought, ’so I have to tell a little white lie. Then again, it’s not really a lie. There’s nothing going on between me and Qi Fei... we’re just close.’

’If I don’t say that, God only knows what kind of story will get back to Bai Yue.’

’Wu Yun had the heart of a player, but not yet the nerve.’

The girl didn’t press the issue. She looked at her former classmate, who had gotten much more handsome, and asked curiously, "I heard you confessed to Bai Yue at the last reunion and she accepted. Are you two dating now?"

’Knew she was going to ask that,’ Wu Yun thought. Out loud, he said, "Yeah, but she’s in Capital City now. Sigh. It’s going to be a long-distance thing."

"I remember you were going to Sichuan Shida University, right? And Bai Yue got into Capital City University. That’s a really long way apart," the classmate remarked, clearly not optimistic about their relationship’s prospects.
