Raising Ducks for Daily Rewards
Chapter 170 - A father at heart
Days passed and the twins arrived at Fengyu’s yard again, their eyes full of determination.
"Senior brother, we’ve decided. We want to join the city."
"That’s good," Fengyu nodded, his smile becoming deeper, yet he didn’t question their decision. Whatever they thought of, whatever led them to this decision, was their own matter - 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
He, as a senior brother, would only try to help them in whatever they achieved.
Since they chose the path he was more familiar with, he was happy and asked them, "Do you wish to directly register as an inner citizen?"
"Yes! Since we have made a decision, we shouldn’t delay it!" Ling said, somewhat copying Fengyu’s way of speaking.
"Haha, true, that’s right. Then, let’s go right out!" Fengyu didn’t delay either and turned to Mother Duck, telling her he’d leave for a while.
Zimu... looking at him teaching the fifty herd beasts his own path of peace, Fengyu could only chuckle that this duck of his was too eager for success and even used the advantage of the herd to communicate with them and convert them, making them his first believers.
What surprised him was that the more these ducks listened to Zimu, the closer they moved to him -
Whatever this peaceful aura was, it seemed to benefit his beasts.
When he saw this for the first time, he analysed and realised that this aura might be something like spiritual power for these ducks... so, was he a living spiritual vein?
He didn’t dare dive too deeply into it and pushed them to the back of his mind. As long as it wasn’t bad, it was fine, it was really fine, there was no issue at all...
"Alright, let’s go." Fengyu said, quickly leaving the field and ignoring the duck heads looking at him longingly.
Walking out of the field, he explained to the twins as he walked, "You can directly choose your first two rewards on the spot, and even the third can be chosen if you want to.
But let’s talk about the first two -
Transcendent Cultivation Arts are cultivation arts that directly lead to the highest stage of this world! What does this mean? It means that choosing them is like choosing your path a second time. So, you can’t be careless.
There are dozens of these arts in the library, and these are only the ones available to us. These arts are generally divided into three categories: creation art focused, battle art focused and general arts.
The first two are self-explanatory, while the last are arts focused on different elements or phenomena rather than a direct direction.
When I chose my art, I chose a creation focused cultivation art, because as a Spiritual Herder, this art has the best of all worlds - it has a strong cultivation foundation, improves my herding and increases my strength.
You two, while I think it’s more suitable for you to also choose creation based cultivation arts, actually, it’s not the most important.
After choosing the creation art, you will choose the inheritance, which is another important thing. For me, I chose a medical inheritance, leading to me cultivating two creation arts at the same time.
The only requirement for the cultivation art is for the inspiration you have to have a similar direction as the cultivation art. You both have water and earth, elemental inspirations, which offer a wide range of arts you can practice.
A last note, something I learned around the same time I learned about inspirations, is that the best number of inspirations to obtain in the first stage is three. Having less is fine, having more is unnecessary.
I do not know the exact reason for this, but you can think of this when choosing a cultivation art - because Transcendent Arts allow you to awaken an inspiration!"
Fengyu explained a lot of what he thought might be useful, only adding to the knowledge base of the twins, but not telling them to make a decision right away. Knowing about all options is the best way for a cultivator to make the best decision.
As he talked, he had arrived at the eastern gate, upon which he opened a sound-proofing barrier to block out anything he said. Who knew if a cultivator heard something he said, awakened an inspiration, only for that inspiration to be false, then blame him and become his enemy?
Since the city was so cautious, then he would definitely only be more cautious, not less.
Fengyu slowly reached a point where saying more would be harmful, so his voice grew softer until he stopped speaking. Looking over to the twins, both of them were contemplating their own path deeply.
A few minutes later, having turned left after reaching the outer city hall, he saw the familiar street of the southern gate once more. It was wide yet rather deserted compared to the other streets, with very few people walking around.
Entering the library, he asked the receptionist to inform the old man of his appearance.
While waiting, Fengyu turned to the twins. Both looked at him with bright eyes, even more determined than when they told him they’d enter the inner city. He simply smiled at their innocence, not asking about their decision, since he’d know in just a moment.
As he waited, he saw several cultivators walking together into the library in a group, the leading one being a youth wearing a green robe with deer-like patterns, his eyes a light green like the rising vitality in the morning.
Those cultivators around him had similar serene auras, each of them seemingly the embodiment of nature and harmony. Their relation to the young man was not that of a servant and master, but that of friends going out together.
"Hmm?" the young man up front turned to Fengyu, his eyes looking deeply at him. He was even more curious when he looked over and approached, "Fellow daoist, please excuse my rude behaviour, but you have a very peaceful aura around you."
Fengyu looked curiously at the young man, so young, together with his robes and his light green eyes, one might think it was a young prince!
Maybe it was his deepest desire to have his own children, but whenever he saw cultivators so young, his fatherly affection kicked in, and he just wanted to pinch them.
"Fellow daoist?" the young man called out, awakening Fengyu from his short reverie - he suddenly realised that he had actually knelt down slightly and pinched the young man!
"Oh, it seems it was I who was rude!" Fengyu quickly stood up and cupped his hands. He hadn’t realised what he had done at all!
But... why didn’t this cultivator step back when he did so? Wasn’t he afraid of being killed in that short moment?
"Fellow daoist has such a peaceful aura... it’s really confusing, like you’re one with nature, or that you are in harmony with nature..." the young man ignored it, instead asking again.
"How can I be in harmony with nature? Nature is inherently a mix of violence and peace - at most I have half a connection to it, not worth mentioning."
"But fellow daoists’ aura is very close to that of my clan’s elders! No, it’s even stronger, like, like that day... like that day when I was young, gazing at the soft evening sun with mother..." the cultivator couldn’t help but touch his cheek, the one Fengyu had pinched, the same way his mother pinched him when he was young...
"Young? Fellow daoist, aren’t you still young? Why dwell in the past like an old man, you should enjoy the present." Fengyu couldn’t help but say this when he saw the young man’s expression turn slightly sad.
Though calling him a young man... was really beyond what he looked like. He looked more like a boy who had barely reached puberty.
Fengyu turned to Ming and said, "He looks just like you when you were young! No, you always carried a look of ’I am working, don’t disturb me,’ while this young man looks a bit more like a deer."
