Pursuit Of Immortality

Chapter 24: Know Fear

Hei Jun was very wary about his public image. After all, he was one of the strongest disciples of the twelve strongest swords of the Inner Court disciples.

Despite his status, he only jumped on a demeaning mission like this because earning the Patriarch’s favor meant he could get the sect’s support and obtain more resources to break his cultivation base from the peak stage of the mortal realm seventh level: Qi Compression, to the early stage of the eighth level: Internal Refinement.

With that, he had just one more level and would enter the Spirit Realm, granting him the opportunity to become a core disciple.

But he also had to deal with this situation while saving the face of the Peach Blossom Sword Sect. However, this brother standing in front of him was pulling his cords, and maintaining his calm was becoming a daunting task.

Still, Hei Jun managed a smile and spoke in a gentle tone.

"Oh, brother. You speak with deep grudges toward the Peach Blossom Sect. Do you perhaps have a few disagreements with the esteemed values of our sect?"

He smiled proudly and nodded, while Wei Shi Lan could barely contain his disgust at the man’s heinous smile.

"This is greatly understandable," Hei Jun said, emanating a lot of charm. "I understand you. Our Peach Blossom Sect values helping the less privileged and is equal in its providence, judging no one. We answer when called. The leader of the gambling den has earnestly begged us to help her with a man who has broken the arms of her men and refused to pay his debt."

He turned to the odd one out among them.

The man stuttered the moment his eyes met Shi Lan’s cold gaze.

"H-He... he beat us up! And broke big brother’s hands!"

She shouted, pointing to Shi Lan and not to Chang’e, who had harvested a beating on his body. Because he very much knew that the disciples of the Peach Blossom Sect would be reluctant to deal with the woman.

And he wasn’t stupid enough not to know that it was simply Shi Lan using Chang’e to beat them up and disgrace them before everyone.

So to him, Shi Lan was the culprit that had to be apprehended!

He squirmed and hid his face away from Shi Lan’s towering gaze, trying to hide behind Hei Jun.

Hei Jun gave Shi Lan a low-effort smile.

"As you have heard, you have broken a man’s limb. This is beyond debts."

Hei Jun looked down with faint contempt before returning his gaze to Shi Lan with a smile.

"And you insulted the Peach Blossom Sect with this act. That is a punishable offense."

He placed his hand on the sword at his waist. Immediately, his subordinates reacted the same way.

The air fell silent, and Shi Lan stared at them, with the light of calculated murder slowly brewing in the depths of his eyes.

Chang’e hurriedly moved in front of Shi Lan, causing the assembling murderous intent on Shi Lan’s face to vanish for a moment.

"Senior Brother of the Peach Blossom Sect! This is all my husband’s fault! This young man was only trying to help me because my daughter and I assisted him. Please, if you will take anyone, take me!"

Shi Lan’s eyes widened in shock.

Xia Xia also jumped in front of her mother.

"No! Take me instead! I will not let you take my senior brother Lan!"

Wei Shi Lan found this situation greatly strange and stunning. At the same time, he was deeply revolted by it.

’I have never been protected before...’

Even by the people whom he called his wives, he was a figure of unbeatable strength. He conquered them with raw power, showing them that his cunning, matched by his profound strength, was peerless, even among the ranks of the Immortals of the Heavenly Realm.

But here he was, perceived to be weak. Even though they didn’t have to... he was a stranger. They could cut him off and take all his earned money for themselves. It was what Shi Lan expected any family of this kind to do. But instead, they were defending him and offering themselves instead.

’Are they fools?’ 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

Shi Lan thought as he stared at the two of them, deeply puzzled by selfless actions.

Hei Jun almost let his irritation spill but sucked his lower lip and managed a calm smile like he had been doing.

"This is a serious matter, kid. You have a bright future ahead of you. Don’t ruin it." He took Chang’e by the face, stunned.

’What an absolutely gorgeous woman? What is a woman like this doing in Lake Valley? Hmm... I should take her for myself. They say married women are always a sweet fuck. This turned out not to be entirely useless after all.’

Hei Jun certainly did not know, but for a moment he let his lustful greed spill through the way he looked at Chang’e, such that she too took a staggered step backward, fear climbing onto her face.

Even Xia Xia shouted:

"You! How dare you look at my mother like that, Medicine Hall Master!!"

Hei Jun managed a timid laugh, hiding his contempt.

"What do you mean, child? What medicine—"

He stopped talking abruptly, and his reflexes moved entirely on their own. His hand drew out his sword to defend himself, and his legs shot back several distances in one leap while sweat formed inside his inner robe.

The two disciples glanced back, shocked that their senior brother had jumped back so much.

They wore confused expressions before turning back to Wei Shi Lan, who suddenly looked like a dark predator. But to them, they didn’t understand why their senior brother ran back from an ordinary man who was not even a cultivator.

Meanwhile, Hei Jun, even though his sword was in front of him, couldn’t keep his trembling hand still as a very sinister Qi leaked out of Wei Shi Lan, dominating the area and driving his sharpened senses into a deep, lonesome abyss.

’W-What... how does he have such a magnitude of Demonic Qi?!’
