Chapter 964 - 310: Cuba (Part 3)
This is the 31st day that the expert has arrived in Havana. It's somewhat amusing to say that Havana, the core stronghold controlled by the Cuba Drug Trafficking Group, surprisingly maintains better law and order than Night City.
At least here, you won't see people on the streets brandishing guns for fights every day, because there is only one gang here, and internal conflicts of interest are not allowed to escalate to gunfire unless absolutely necessary.
Even government offices are operational, albeit without judicial institutions or police.
Whether you'll be caught committing a crime depends solely on your relationship with the drug trafficking group and whom you've offended.
Within more than a month here, the experts have gathered considerable information.
Firstly, Cuba still inherits the Soviet Union-supported medical system from the Cold War era of the last century. Hence, Cuba's prosperous medical industry became the primary target for drug trafficking groups to shift their production lines to after their poppy fields were genetically attacked and wiped out by mold.
Here, they have established pure chemical drug production lines, and each year they continue to invest heavily in education and production sectors of biology, chemistry, and medicine, constantly updating drugs and developing more addictive substances.
Whether it's the Havana Drug Trafficking Group occupying half of Cuba, or the Camaguey Republic, the Santiago organization, the Cuba National Liberation Front, and other groups, they all fiercely compete on this track.
Meanwhile, they are also researching and producing various stimulants for sports events, sex, military operations, etc. The medical industry is so developed that it's no inferior to most countries in the European Community. It can fully be called a quasi-first-class standard.
At least it's far superior to the current New America.
The Havana Drug Trafficking Group alone controls over 300 drug production factories and 27 pharmaceutical research institutes in the provinces of Pinar del Rio, Havana, Matanzas, and Las Villas, with over two hundred thousand people working in them. The daily output of drugs nears a thousand tons, accounting for nearly two-thirds of Cuba's total drug production capacity, and are distributed to five continents, nearly a hundred countries.
Every hundred Cubans, there are 5 directly involved in the drug manufacturing industry and 15 in related industries.
Their military power is absurdly strong, with the Havana Drug Trafficking Group holding 3 armored brigades, 7 mechanized infantry brigades, 2 air brigades, and 10 reserve corps, totaling nearly fifty thousand people, and that's not counting the militia and special agent organizations.
Their armament is equally formidable, with tanks, helicopters, fighter jets, transport aircraft, and attack planes at their disposal, making it arguably the strongest drug trafficking group in human history.
No wonder Hansen and Handz stationed at Dog Town shiver upon hearing about the Havana Drug Trafficking Group; this military force is comparable to a small country.
However... the pharmaceutical industry is also the only thriving industry in Cuba.
The drug dealers are only interested in efficiently producing drugs, and they have no interest in agriculture, light and heavy industries, tourism, or the service industry.
The vast plains have become nearly barren for growing edible crops due to the wastewater emitted by pharmaceutical factories. Cuba's once-proud sugar industry has perished along with the sugarcane fields, while the few remaining arable lands are seized by warlords to grow tobacco for cigar production.
The tropical rainforest once plagued by mold either dies or grows abnormally, making survival outdoors as difficult as in America's Evil Land, rendering tourism virtually nonexistent.
Everyone huddles in big cities; the drug dealers use money from drug trafficking to build hotels, villas, casinos, and mansions in the city center, while the unemployed linger around the city center, scraping a living from the leftover crumbs spilled from the inner city.
Their only upward channel isn't even studying medicine, but to have a pretty daughter (a natural body is more rare than a prosthetic).
Then let the daughter participate in various beauty contests, hopefully standing out to catch the eye of wealthy drug dealers, being taken to become mistresses with a cycle no more than three years and a mortality rate reaching 30%, even surviving many suffer various aftereffects, with insanity being quite common.
It's only upon arriving here that the expert understands the weight of the phrase "Night City is a city of dreams."
Isn't Night City rotten enough?
But in fact, compared with Cuba, it's already a remarkable place, which explains why so many people flock to Night City each year.
The expert walks to a three-story building by the street, stands at the door, and knocks unevenly while checking several cameras hidden in corners.
After staring for over ten seconds, there's a creak, and the door opens.
The door is opened by Killer Demon, with Olivia standing beside him holding a gun in alert. The two cautiously scan behind the expert, confirming no one followed, then step aside to let him in, swiftly closing the door.
The two walk through a narrow corridor towards the second floor, where the building bought under Olivia's name serves temporarily as a safe house.
Killer Demon: "Why are you back so early today?"
"Of course, if there's news, I come back early."
The expert throws the artificial roast meat patties and fried starch chips bought on the way back to Olivia, which is their dinner today.
No choice, the quantity and variety of commercial food on Havana's outskirts is pathetic, totally unaffordable for locals.
If protein bars aren't desired, this is the only slightly normal-looking food available, more expensive than street snacks in Night City, mainly consumed by those with 'jobs'.
"What news?"
Killer Demon is intrigued.
The expert glances at Olivia, remaining silent.
Olivia rolls her eyes in dissatisfaction.
"Who cares."
She says, intending to walk another way but is quickly detained by Killer Demon.
"There are no outsiders here, all trustworthy comrades."
Upon seeing this, the expert says no more, the three walk into a cramped living room. David is standing at the window keeping watch, while Gloria talks to Lin Miao, besides that, two players who arrived with the expert are safeguarding them.
The expert speaks straightforwardly.
"I just gleaned some news from an officer at the bar, saying guerrilla traces were found in the Sapata Swamp Area of Matanzas Province; they ambushed a transport fleet."
