Omega's Rebirth - Chapter 221: Uphill ()
"The stables?" Neveah asked Menarx with a raised brow, recognizing the direction they were headed in.
Through all the time it had taken to leave dragon keep and walk out into the courtyard, Neveah and Menarx had been the center of all attention and Menarx was visibly pleased with it.
His usually gloomy expression was nowhere to be found and what Neveah knew to be a rare smile since Menarx rarely smiled had graduated into a large grin,
This grin had been set on Menarx’s lips since Neveah emerged from the audience hall and as rare as Menarx’s smile was the fact that this smile truly lit up his eyes.
Menarx’s every expression was honest and genuine and Neveah could not even begin to figure out what she had done to be awarded such a brilliant smile.
Was having her acceptance truly enough to make someone so happy? Neveah did not think so... even her own mate had thought otherwise.
Yet it played out right before her eyes and Neveah just had to wonder exactly what Menarx saw in her.
"Well... yeah. It is not so great a distance but walking would take quite some time." Menarx replied, passing Neveah a mischievous look.
Walking was the last word Neveah expected to hear from a dragon and she blinked in astonishment.
"Walking? When you can fly?" Neveah murmured to herself in bafflement as she struggled to keep up with Menarx’s large strides.
"Dragons do not always fly Veah. We have legs for a reason you know." Menarx pointed out, chuckling in amusement.
Menarx was so genuinely happy that it showed in his every action and Neveah found Menarx’s mood was infectious as she could not help a small smile.
"No, I did not know that." Neveah replied with a roll of her eyes.
"We could fly there if you want...but then, we would be high above ground level. You do not get a chance around the Keep much, you should get to know the terrain better." Menarx explained.
"Is that truly your reason?" Neveah asked with a raised brow.
Menarx only smiled in response and said nothing more, letting go of his hold on Neveah’s hand.
"I’ll be right back." Menarx assured as he ventured into the stables.
Neveah stood outside the stable, patiently awaiting Menarx who had gone in to fetch them horses.
Neveah had said nothing of it but she found Menarx was truly considerate of her, leading her to the stables without saying a word.
Now that Neveah had chosen to be Menarx’s rider, it should have been okay for Menarx to give Neveah a ride himself but it seemed he was waiting... till Neveah approved it herself.
Neveah sighed quietly, it was only a day and Neveah already felt Menarx was too good to be true.
The thought of that left a melancholic feeling in Neveah’s heart, whenever something good stared Neveah right in the face like this... doom had followed not far behind.
It was the same with Alessio, the same with Luna Colleen and the Eclipse Hunt Pack, the same with Xenon and now Menarx.
’I do not even dare to be happy now... what has become of me?’ Neveah thought to herself.
It was the unavoidable truth, Neveah regarded Menarx with wariness and she believed this would not change anytime soon.
Neveah shook off her thoughts when Menarx returned with a single horse.
Neveah raised a brow, staring behind Menarx to see if a stable hand would bring with him another horse but there was no stable hand in sight.
"How is it just one?" Neveah asked and Menarx shrugged casually.
"The path is steep... I will not be rest assured having you far from me." Menarx replied in a sheepish tone.
Neveah hummed in response, Menarx knew the terrain better so he alone knew where he would lead Neveah to.
Menarx offered Neveah a hand to help her get up and Neveah passed him a look.
"I can mount a horse just fine by myself." Neveah reminded.
"I know...but I’m here, so you do not have to." Menarx replied easily, waving his hand around for emphasis.
Neveah sighed quietly as she took Menarx’s offered hand, placing her foot on the stirrup, she climbed up to the horse and settled in while Menarx got up behind her.
Menarx’s hands took hold of the reins on either side of Neveah and he stirred the horse into a fast gallop out of Dragon Keep.

"Where are we?" Neveah asked Menarx curiously as he stirred the horse to a stop.
"We have to go uphill, we can walk the rest of the way." Menarx relayed as he got of the horse and reached up to help Neveah down, lifting her by her waist.
"Menarx!" Neveah exclaimed in surprise, finding her footing when Menarx placed her down, a small smirk on his lips.
"You should eat more...you hardly weigh anything." Menarx advised as he secured the reins of the horse to a tree.
"How about you try lifting me in my other form? I could also lift you with ease in human form." Neveah countered begrudgingly.
"Come on." Menarx replied with a shake of his head as he lead the way uphill.
They walked in silence for a while and Menarx suddenly turned so he was facing Neveah and kept walking backwards.
"What are you doing? You could miss your footing and hurt yourself." Neveah asked with a raised brow.
"I just feel like staring at you." Menarx replied with a casual shrug.
Neveah cringed visibly at Menarx’s ridiculous statement, while her heart constricted in guilt.
This side of Menarx was so unfamiliar, Neveah knew she just did not deserve it... most especially since she was not certain what she felt for Menarx yet.
"You have completely lost it." Neveah decided with a shake of her head as she hurried past Menarx, walking on ahead as though she knew the way.
Menarx’s laughter followed Neveah all the way.
"Wait up! You’ll get lost!" Menarx called out, while he hurried to catch up with her hastened strides.
