Omega's Rebirth - Chapter 212: To Know Them ()
Silence... complete and absolute silence dawned over the audience hall, no one dared speak a word, they could only stare at Lord Menarx and his company, as did King Jian.
Lord Menarx of ruby scales was certainly not the center of attention, as dazzling as his appearance was, the council had seen him many times before and could not be so shocked at his arrival.
Instead, the attention of the entire council was fixed on Neveah who stood beside Menarx, and not just standing but her attire was much different than usual.
A rider’s dress was an attire that could be identified on sight, every other rider on the council wore a somewhat similar attire with the same unique fabric but in different styles and colors.
It was not an attire that could be worn by just anyone and what was above all else was the color Neveah wore.
There was no need or cause for an explanation, Neveah’s attire spoke volumes and was all the explanation that was needed... there was no one in the council who could not immediately understand what this meant.
It was only that even if they did understand the meaning, it was a turn of events that was absolutely unexpected.
Menarx’s voice broke the silence, his tone was firm as usual as he spoke.
"Apologies for arriving late. I do not believe there would be cause for an introduction at this time... the council is already familiar with my rider, Lady Neveah." Menarx asserted.
With that said, he strode further into the hall with Neveah at his side and he stopped at the very front, lowering his head to a bow before King Jian.
Menarx then climbed up to his place beside King Jian, a privilege only accorded to the King’s guard and by his side, Neveah stood.
Her expression was calm as though there were not over a dozen dragons and their riders staring straight at her.
’Be on guard. From henceforth, we will have to be a step ahead of everyone else... especially this council.’ Neveah’s wolf thought to her.
’Don’t I know it?’ Neveah thought back to her wolf.
"This is... quite the surprise." Lord Lodenworth spoke up, clearing his throat.
Lord Lodenworth was Lady Keila’s rider, brother-in-law to Adrienne, the annoying fairy who had it out for Neveah.
’ He does not seem to like us very much.’ Neveah’s wolf pointed out and Neveah smirked slightly.
Again, this was within Neveah’s expectation. Davina had already given her a heads-up.
’I do not have an opinion of him either ways, his dislike is of no matter.’ Neveah thought back to her wolf unconcerned.
At first, Neveah had thought she would be nervous... intimidated or even scared to stand before the council again.
But it was now that she faced their stares that Neveah recalled she had been through much worse,
Compared to all she had endured in the Eclipse Domain, this was nothing.
Instead, she could not help familiarizing herself with each face on the council, these were the powers of Dragon Keep... she would have to know them better than she knew herself.
She would have to know those who were for her and those against her... for those worthy of trust, Neveah would attempt to trust.
For those who cared, she would care in return... for those who were against her, she would ensure they could never hurt her.
As much as she received, she would give in return... whether good or evil would be repaid in coin.
"Indeed." Decaron agreed.
Lord Decaron... Neveah did have an opinion of this lord dragon, he seemed to be a straightforward and honest man.
Though he had dragged Neveah out to kneel in the courtyard, she bore no grudges against him.
"Narx has truly done it this time." Kirgan murmured to Cassian in a low tone, an amused smirk on his lips.
Lord Kirgan, of the King’s guards, he was the only one Neveah got along with right from the start, she did not fear for what opinion he had of her.
"I see you knew about this." Cassian said back, still at a loss on what he was happening.
Lord Cassian of the King’s guard was aloof, yet open minded. He maintained his distance from Neveah right from the start but Neveah knew he did not detest her...he just did not care altogether.
"You have heard it said...Menarx of ruby scales is to be bonded. What great surprise is it? It has been long coming." Lord Imagor’s words were the most unexpected.
Neveah herself was caught off guard by Lord Imagor’s casual declaration of acceptance which completely eased the tension in the audience hall.
Lord Imagor was different, he had been out for Neveah’s head a week ago but something seemed to have changed.
It was funny how the dragons quietly deliberated the issue with no words being said and then came to a tacit agreement while Neveah quietly made her own judgements of each of them.
None of the king’s guard seemed to be opposed and so the rest of the council had no reasons to be either.
There was just one final concern and that was the lack of reaction from the dragon king.
Neveah was tempted to pass a subtle glance to King Jian, just out of curiosity, for some reason, she wanted to see what other expression he was capable of save for that cold, chilling glare.
But Neveah refrained from it and kept her gaze fixed ahead of her, Menarx had assured her his choice was absolute.
No one could oppose a dragon’s choice in his mate because such a choice was one carefully made by the dragon in question.
Neveah had not truly been worried that anyone would oppose, they had not come to seek consent.
But of course, Neveah knew for certain the dragon king would detest her all the more now, but she did not care in the slightest.
"The council was gathered to deliberate on the pressing situation...now that we all are present, we will proceed." King Jian finally spoke.
