Omega's Rebirth - Chapter 206: Someone To Rely On ()
Neveah’s eye lids twitched slightly as the grasp of unconsciousness let go of it’s hold on her and her consciousness was slowly restored.
Her eyes fluttered open weakly, her hand moving up to shield her eyes from the bright lighting of her surroundings.
For a moment, Neveah wondered where exactly she was, but that moment did not last long.
"You’re awake?" An unfamiliar voice reached Neveah, the voice was that of a female.
Neveah groaned quietly as she tilted her head to the side, her eyes fluttering closed again when her head spun at the sudden movement, distorting her vision.
"Where am I?" Neveah asked without opening her eyes, her voice still deepened with exhaustion.
"Your room...on the fourth level." The woman replied without hesitation.
"Fourth level..." Neveah murmured quietly as a quiet sigh escaped her lips.
Fourth level...it meant she was back in Dragon Keep and Neveah was not even surprised, she only felt slightly annoyed.
What could she expect after falling unconscious right in Menarx’s arms when she should have been running as far away from him as possible?
What was worse, Neveah now recalled clearly what had happened right before she lost consciousness.
"Menarx, that uncultured brute..." Neveah murmured aloud, which stirred a quiet chuckle from the other occupant of her room.
Neveah’s eyes snapped open at this time and she glanced over to the side to find a face she immediately recognized.
"Lady Kaliana!" Neveah exclaimed, sitting up on her bed in a flash only to have her head spinning again.
"Easy there... Everon says you hit your head pretty badly after your fall. Though you already healed, you’d have a queasy feeling for a while." Lady Kaliana warned, hurrying over to Neveah’s side.
Lady Kaliana helped Neveah lay back down, a small smile on her lips while Neveah just gaped up at her.
Lady Kaliana, Lord Imagor’s rider and the only rider on the King’s guard. The very same woman who had been on the brink of death sometime ago and Neveah’s life had been dependent on her survival.
Of all people, Neveah certainly did not expect to see Lady Kaliana by her bedside, most especially since Lady Kaliana was still unconscious and had just begun her recovery process the very day Neveah fell.
"Considering you saved my life, I should be the one giving you that look. How is it fair to beat me to it?" Lady Kaliana asked after a moment of silence.
"Oh, I..." Neveah began, but trailed off.
Having nothing to say, Neveah could only divert her gaze. Neveah did not mean to stare in such a manner, she was just truly surprised to find Lady Kaliana in her own room.
"You may speak comfortably with me and forego formalities if that is what bothers you." Lady Kaliana chipped in, believing Neveah was now wary of speaking.
"Ah, no...not that. I’m just glad to see you are well recovered." Neveah admitted truthfully.
"You made that possible." Lady Kaliana said gratefully as she sat by Neveah’s bed and took her hands.
" I regained consciousness a few days ago and heard all that happened from my beloved. When I heard of your fall... I felt truly aggrieved, that I would be unable to express my gratitude even once." Lady Kaliana began.
"And so, I insisted on rushing over soon after Narx returned with you. I wanted to be the first person you saw when you awakened... and I wanted the first thing you hear to be... that you have my thanks, Neveah."
"I am eternally grateful to you... for myself, my beloved... and our child." Lady Kaliana said earnestly.
Neveah was stunned to silence by Lady Kaliana’s words and for a moment she was not sure how to respond, but eventually, she shook off her surprise.
"I only did what I needed to...to save my own life. I’m not that great of a person." Neveah clarified.
Lady Kaliana shook her head slightly, an amused smile on her lips.
"Somehow, I knew you would say that. But regardless of what your intentions were, it still does not change the results...you are the only reason my child and I are alive and well, Neveah. That is the indisputable truth." Lady Kaliana insisted.
Neveah did not have any words to argue and so she just kept silent.
"I know you may not like things or feel at home here in the keep, the circumstances you were brought in would not allow for that."
"But I wanted you to know that if you had no one else to rely on here...you now have me, and my child of course." Lady Kaliana added.
Neveah laughed quietly, nodding her head in understanding.
"To have a little prince to rely on... that is truly reassuring." Neveah replied with a small smile.
"It is...but I doubt we are the only ones." Lady Kaliana said, a knowing look in her eyes.
Neveah raised a brow, she was not certain what Lady Kaliana hinted at but she did not ask to know either.
"I will leave you be for now, otherwise, Narx would hold a grudge." Lady Kaliana added with a chuckle as she rose to her feet and took her leave.
Just as Neveah stared after Lady Kaliana, marvelling at how regal and graceful the rider was in bearing, a familiar presence stepped into her line of sight.
"You’re awake..." Menarx murmured with a small smile on his lips, a smile Neveah had no intentions of returning.
Neveah’s eyes narrowed into a cross glare, harsh enough that she watched Menarx visibly wince.
"You hateful bastard..." Neveah muttered in a low tone.
"Veah... I know you did not wish to return here..." Menarx began to explain but Neveah cut him off.
"You knew and yet you brought me back here...in a moment when I was too weak to defend myself, you preyed on that and sent me right back into this god forsaken keep!" Neveah snarled in a chilling cold tone.
"Veah... can you please hear me out for just a moment?" Menarx pleaded.
Neveah scoffed beneath her, turning her face away.
"There is nothing you say that could possibly change anything... just leave." Neveah murmured.
