Omega's Rebirth - Chapter 196: Nightmare ()
Thump...thump... thump...
The sound of Neveah’s heart beats were loud and clear in her ears, her breath came out in short pants and her heart slammed against her rib cage as though it would jump out at any moment.
As always, she stood in the darkness, shadows besieging her from all around, Neveah could hardly see a step ahead of her but she could not afford to concern herself with her surroundings.
This shortness of breath... this terrible ache, this unwelcome tugging, Neveah knew exactly what it was... for whom such feelings were stirred.
"Omega...do you dare forget me...?" That familiar voice snarled in her ears and Neveah’s heart sank to the pit of her stomach.
"It is only a matter of time now Omega...you know it, that I will come for you... for what is mine..." He vowed in a dark, haunting tone.

Neveah’s eyes snapped open, a strangled gasp escaped her as she visibly shuddered in horror.
"That same nightmare... for every night since..." Neveah gasped in a low tone as she struggled to steady her breathing and at the same time, ignore the tug of the mate bond that had once again roared to life.
Ever since that spell, the mate bond had been as active as when Neveah had first discovered it... tormenting Neveah’s nights with his presence, his voice...his memories
Neveah could not even recall when last she had gotten a good night’s rest without awakening with cold sweat and a heart trembling in terror.
The spell had passed but the effects it left behind were cruel and terrible, every effort Neveah had expended to bury the mate bond and the feelings that came with it had all become futile.
Neveah scrambled off the bed and over to the center table, pouring herself a glass of water and chugging it down in a single breath to soothe her parched throat.
Placing the cup down, Neveah leaned her weight on her hands rested on the table, her eyes fluttering closed.
"He doesn’t scare me... I will not live in his shadow." Neveah reminded herself, drawing strength from her words.
It took Neveah a short time to calm herself and only then did her eyes come open again.
Neveah walked over to the window and pushed it open, letting the chilling wind of the early morning seep in.
"It will be dawn soon." Neveah murmured to herself as she stepped back and pulled her hair up into a bun, heading out of the cottage.
Neveah made sure to be quiet so she did not rouse anyone else as she stepped out and then made her way into the fields, far enough from the cottage where she felt comfortable to take her wolf form.
Neveah let her wolf rise to the surface, her shift rushing through her with much ease.
Having grown used to a painful shift whenever she took her wolf form, Neveah felt at ease when her shift was swift and uneventful.
In the past days, Neveah had taken her wolf form everyday, treating herself to all the freedom her wolf could not afford back in the Eclipse Domain and even in Dragon Keep.
The fields surrounding the cottage were large enough and the human settlement of Maneward was all the way on the other side of the vast field.
Neveah did not have to be concerned about running into anyone and even if she did, it would not be anything more than what she could handle.
"What are you dallying about? Let’s go!" Neveah’s wolf interrupted her thoughts anxiously.
Neveah rolled her eyes before she gave over control to her wolf, who immediately darted into the fields at blinding speed.
"It has been ten days already, and we laid low as you suggested. By now, Dragon Keep will forget our existence."
"It should be safe to leave and I do not think it wise to linger here for too long...we have to chose our path now." Neveah thought to her wolf as they ran.
"Do not burned your heart with worrisome thoughts now, there will always be time to worry Veah. Just breathe...we deserve that much." Neveah’s wolf thought back to her.
"Breathe?..." Neveah thought with a heavy sigh, pushing aside her concerns and focusing her attention on this moment...
This moment where all she had to feel was the wind brushing over her fur and the earth beneath her paws.
______________
"So... this spell makes people disappear?" Neveah asked doubtfully as she stared over Roman’s shoulder at the scroll in his hands.
All Neveah could see were runes and strange words she could not understand and Neveah was already completely certain she would never come to terms with magic and it’s workings.
"I’m telling you, I saw my mother do it once. Just you wait, I’ll figure it out soon." Roman confidently assured Neveah.
"Right." Neveah murmured in response as she moved past Roman and took a seat on the floor, picking up the book she had just been reading before Roman called her attention.
"This says..." Roman began as he lifted a hand in Neveah’s direction and began to murmur some strange words.
Neveah’s gaze shot up immediately and she lifted a hand to stop Roman before he could continue with his spell casting.
"Woah! Woah! Stop right there Ro... you said the spell makes people disappear, why are you pointing those hands at me?" Neveah asked, moving to the side so she was no longer in that direction.
"But how can I know if it works if I don’t try it out?" Roman whined.
"I’d say, for now... don’t try it out on humans. Whoever knows where they disappear to? Why don’t you go out into the barn and practice with the barn animals first?" Neveah suggested.
Roman thought over it for a moment before he shook his head.
"A disappearing spell for people should be tested on people." Roman argued.
"And if I disappear, who is going to take you out to play in the fields when grandma is busy? Or keep you from getting scolded?" Neveah bargained with the stubborn child.
Again, Roman took a moment to think over Neveah’s words before he nodded in agreement.
"Veah!" Lydia called to Neveah from where she stood in the kitchen, kneading a dough.
"Coming!" Neveah yelled back, passing Roman a warning look.
"Don’t you go causing any trouble... I’ve got my eyes on you." Neveah warned before she headed over to answer Lydia’s call.
