Chapter 83: Chapter 82 - A New Plan To Bring Back Evidence

Without stopping the Humvee and letting the engine work hard, I continued driving until reached the edge of the forest filled with tall bushes.

Baanngg!!

Baanngg!!

The open door of the Humvee beside me was swept away by a strong wind coming from the opposite direction, nearly closing the narrow gap I used to shoot at the two black figures chasing from behind.

Now I know the reason why Chitose suddenly entered the Humvee from the hatch installed on top of the Humvee, it was because she had seen a pack of black wolves nicknamed the black wolves of the night.

Without uttering any helpful information, Chitose got into the Humvee for cover and left us in a tactically avoidable predicament.

Like a glass that had fallen and spilled its water, we were trapped in a long, unprofitable battle. The three black wolves that were chasing us had fallen, and I was quite happy about that, because a 9mm bullet would have been enough to kill them.

So I can save the bullets loaded in the GECAL 50 weapons system.

My hand immediately pulled the handbrake lever and turned the Humvee in the direction from which we had come.

"If you see anything suspicious, please share that information with me," I said to Chitose, who was sitting quietly after we being chased by three black night wolves or whatever they were.

"..." Chitose remained silent and felt irresponsible about what had happened.

Her lips parted slightly, and the expression on her face began to contort as if she was about to say something.

"Sorry..." With just that one sentence, I could hear the tone of her voice that was reluctant to talk to me.

There was no point in getting upset at a time like this, and my eyes turned to the new General to discuss something.

"You saw what happened, didn’t you, General?" I asked as I pulled the brake lever and moved the Humvee in the direction we had come, not to flee but to continue our confrontation with the pack of black wolves of the night or whatever they were.

"Yes, I’ve seen it, quite a pile of bandit corpses. No doubt it has attracted all sorts of nocturnal predators to a feast," replied the new General while moving his shoulders as if warming up.

"So, what are we going to do? Do some cleanup before our wise King arrives, or gather the royal knights to exterminate this troublesome pack of wolves?" I continued to ask the new General, who was now opening the Humvee door, to do something.

Krraanngg!!

"Isn’t the answer obvious? Even if it’s troublesome... we have to clear this place of the wolves that will endanger the King’s safety," the new General replied with a brave smile before getting out of the Humvee.

"It’s a hassle and a pain, but that’s all we can do right now," Doctor Portia added as she try to got out of the Humvee and took out various glass bottles containing suspicious liquids.

A new General who replaced General Keno and an immoral mad doctor, what a strange combination of attacks is this?

"Yeah, good luck to you both," I replied calmly and pulled the Humvee’s wheels gear to slow down.

Before Doctor Portia actually got out of the Humvee, she turned to look at me and had a questioning look on her face.

"You’re not coming down, Hans?"

"Why should I come down?" I replied with a faint smile that showed my reluctance to get down and get involved in this hassle.

"With your ability to defeat that many bandits, wouldn’t defeating a pack of wolves be much easier?"

"Oh, no, no... since I’ve already defeated this many bandits, it’s your job to defeat this troublesome pack of wolves. My job is already done..." I replied, explaining my contribution to Doctor Portia.

"Oh, speaking of me having completed my job. Looks like there’s one more person who needs to get their butt out and do her duty after getting dragged into this place," I continued, glancing at Chitose.

Chitose widened her eyes at me, as if to say that she didn’t want to get involved in this.

"Oh, that’s right, I almost forgot that there’s someone else I can rely on," said Doctor Portia while smiling at Chitose.

With the pressure exerted by Doctor Portia and me, who forcing Chitose to intervene, it was more than enough to kick Chitose out of the Humvee. She lowered her head and heavy breathing were a response to the pressure I was exerting on her.

Her hand immediately reached out towards me, and she wanted to grab the HK-416 that was leaning beside my seat.

Slap!!

With a gentle slap, I tried to prevent that from happening.

"Use your own weapon," I pressed further and smiled at her.

"Ugghh!!" I faintly heard a grumbling sound coming from Chitose and a funny look on her face.

"This is my personal weapon; use your own weapon for your own defense," without giving Chitose any leniency, I forced her to get down to help Doctor Portia and the new General, who were doing some light warm-ups beside the Humvee.

Chitose bit her lip and let out a soft gasp, so soft it sounded like a choked breath.

I don’t know what Chitose was thinking, but she seemed very interested in the weapon I was using. She was so confident that she even want to touch the HK-416, which I’d never publicly shown her how to use it before, as it was a new weapon that came with my Humvee.

"Don’t worry, I’ll help you all from behind," I continued as I opened the Humvee door and got out.

This main heroine...

She’s so troublesome to take care of...

Come to think of it, why is Chitose following me like this?

Her quiet, rarely spoken demeanor is the complete opposite of the one I’m familiar with in eroge games. She’s the highest DPS-maker in the game and my go-to for clearing high-level dungeons. Her aura is calm and flowing like water; she doesn’t talk much and tends to think with a cool head. For some reason, I don’t find that in this version of Chitose.

I’m not on the wrong patch version of the game world, am I?

"AWWWOOOOOO!!"

As I pondered Chitose’s differing attitudes and behavior, a wolf howl rang out from in front of me. I immediately drew my hand forward, preparing to shoot with my pistol. My left hand quickly reached for the HK-416, which was lying nearby in the Humvee’s driver’s seat, and slung the sling over my shoulder.

The magazines I carry in my pocket are not many; there are only four pistol magazines, and two of the magazines contain HK-416 bullets.

Should I move to the back of the Humvee and grab some HK-416 magazines stashed in my backpack?

Or is it too late for that?

"AWWWWWOOOOO!!"

The howls of the wolf pack grew louder and could not be avoided anymore. There was no time left to go to the back of the Humvee just to grab a few magazines of bullets.

Either my luck had run out, or bad luck was befalling me; this had become a life-and-death situation.

With a face filled with pressure, who was reluctant to do anything, Chitose came out of the Humvee carrying one of her katanas.

Just one sword for a girl who can trigger a million DPS attack, that is enough as help.

If only her attitude and behavior were as sweet as those of the other main heroine characters, it would definitely increase her popularity in my eyes.

"This is really annoying," Chitose said in a faint tone and glanced at me with a sharp look in her eyes.

"It’s annoying, but it has to be done to survive," I replied as I pulled on the sling of my HK-416 and prepare to adjusted the scope for mid-range combat.

Thoommpp!!

Thoommpp!!

My feet quickly climbed up the Humvee’s door, and I was now positioned on top of my Humvee, preparing for a rear-end support attack, but the effectiveness... I wasn’t sure yet. With the HK-416’s remaining ammunition limited to two magazine, I would launch a support attack at the right moment. That was the least I could do for now.

"..." from beside me, Chitose seemed to be looking at me with a blank look in her eyes, and wanted to say something.

"What? I’ll just provide support from behind..." I said while positioning the HK-416 scope like a sniper rifle.

"If possible... please fight in a place that is not too far away or that I cannot see," I continued to say before I heard a careless voice coming from Doctor Portia.

"Oh, uuppsss... Sorry."

My shoulders felt heavy when Doctor Portia said that sentence and made my eyes look forward.

What Doctor Portia has done, I will find out soon.

Crraacckk!!

Poooffff!!

Far ahead of us, the new General had disappeared into the thick, red smoke.

There was only one person I could blame after seeing that thick, red smoke, and that person was right to my left.

"Portia..."

"I told you not to cover my field of vision..." I said in a relaxed tone and started aiming through the scope magnifier attached to the HK-416.

Without the opportunity to zeroing the HK-416 scope to shoot at medium range and hit the target, I had to trust my previous scope settings.

"Take it easy, Hans."

"The new general who replaced General Keno is no less formidable when it comes to the poison resistance in his body," replied Doctor Portia with her thumb raised upwards.

Cttiingg!!

Who knows where the confidence came from, but Doctor Portia seems to have poisoned a General who had just been elected as the new General, with a thick red smoke screen.

Well, fighting with a female doctor who would later be known as the mad doctor was truly mentally exhausting.

"Let’s hope we don’t bring the new General’s body as additional evidence."
