Zombie Bodyguard-Chapter 1424 - 1421: A Strange Arrangement
Yun Xiaotian listened to Lin Tian’s words and was partially understanding; although he had a mother who was an Ancient Martial Artist, he hadn’t had much more exposure to the Ancient Martial World than Lin Tian.
More importantly, Yun Xiaotian had never seen many secret worlds, so he couldn’t fully comprehend Lin Tian’s words.
Lin Tian shook his head and turned to examine the room. The room wasn’t like a modern apartment with a living room and multiple bedrooms; there was only a single room with a bathroom, and a screen dividing the space. The front half was the living room, and the back half likely held the bed.
The living room had a square table with a teapot and cups on it, surrounded by several simple stools, but in Lin Tian’s eyes, these simple furnishings seemed to have quite a bit of history.
Walking around the side of the screen, a beaded curtain came into view, and behind it was indeed a large bed. Besides the large bed, there was a traditional bedside table, a wardrobe, and something similar to a chaise lounge.
The chaise lounge, also known as a beauty couch, is like both a bed and a chair, made of solid wood and elegantly shaped. In ancient times, it was used for sitting or lying down, allowing the owner or guests to take short naps - simply put, it was used for dozing off.
Just then, Yun Xiaotian walked in, and upon seeing the arrangement in the room, a strange expression flashed across his face. He said with some difficulty, "This... there’s only one bed, how do we sleep?"
"This bed is big enough, two people can sleep on it easily," Lin Tian said casually. It was indeed a large bed, bigger than the common two-meter bed, and could easily fit three or four people.
Yun Xiaotian scratched his head, stammering a bit, as though there was something unspeakable. Lin Tian turned to him and asked curiously, "Xiaotian, just speak your mind. Stammering doesn’t suit a man."
"Brother Lin, I... I’m not used to sleeping with someone else." After hesitating for a long time, Yun Xiaotian finally spoke up.
"Not used to sleeping with someone else?" Lin Tian thought about it and guessed this kid probably hadn’t stayed in a dormitory, so his discomfort was understandable. Lin Tian decided not to dwell on it, saying, "Alright, since you’re not used to it, you can sleep on the big bed, and I’ll sleep on the chaise lounge. Is that okay now?"
Despite thinking this arrangement should suffice, Lin Tian noticed Yun Xiaotian was still hesitant, seemingly with more to say.
Seeing him like this, Lin Tian understood what was happening. This kid wasn’t just unused to sharing a bed; he wasn’t used to sharing a room. Such was the life of a young master who had never experienced the collective dormitories of school.
Lin Tian had no choice but to say, "Alright, I’ll move the chaise lounge to the living room. You sleep in the inner part, and I’ll sleep in the outer part, separated by the screen and the beaded curtain. Given the conditions here, this is the best we can do. Xiaotian, you can’t expect me to sleep in the hallway."
Yun Xiaotian quickly waved his hands, embarrassed, "I wouldn’t let Brother Lin sleep in the hallway. The living room is fine."
"Alright, it’s settled then. I’ll move the chaise lounge to the living room." Lin Tian tossed the safe onto the chaise lounge, then easily lifted both the lounge and the safe, carrying them to the living room and placing them on the left side.
Afterwards, Lin Tian joked, "Xiaotian, maybe you should try living in a school dormitory to experience the fun of collective living."
Yun Xiaotian sighed lightly, saying softly, "I wish I could be like ordinary people, chatting in a dormitory, free from bodyguards and stares from others. After lights out, we could have secret pillow talks with classmates, but these things are destined not to be mine."
Lin Tian raised an eyebrow, understanding his words. If not for the incident of Yun Tian’s disappearance, Yun Xiaotian might have had a simple campus life. But now, with bodyguards constantly protecting him, he could only attend aristocratic schools, where he couldn’t experience the freedom and happiness of a normal campus.
"Alright, don’t think too much. After such a long ride, take a break," Lin Tian patted his shoulder, comforting him.
"Okay." Yun Xiaotian nodded, turning and retreating behind the screen.
Lin Tian glanced at the chaise lounge and noticed it lacked a mat. He was accustomed to sleeping on a mat, and sleeping directly on wood felt awkward. He turned and walked into the inner room.
Just as he pushed aside the beaded curtain, Yun Xiaotian suddenly jumped up from the bed with a somewhat panicked expression. His reaction startled Lin Tian, who curiously asked, "Xiaotian, why aren’t you removing your clothes to rest? Sleeping in long clothes and pants isn’t conducive to proper rest and regaining strength."
"I... I’m fine, Brother Lin. Is there something you need?" Yun Xiaotian said, a little nervously.
"Oh, nothing, just getting a mat." With that, he went to the back of the wardrobe and, sure enough, found a mat perfect for the chaise lounge.
He lifted the mat and walked out, and once Lin Tian moved past the screen, Yun Xiaotian sighed lightly, finally relaxing.
It was now past two in the afternoon. Lin Tian laid down the mat and, finding himself bored, decided to study the art of pill refining while awaiting a "summons" from Master Tang.
The waiting lasted for several hours. When someone knocked on the door, the sky outside had already darkened.
When Lin Tian got up, Yun Xiaotian also came out. The boy’s face was slightly flushed, seemingly rejuvenated after a few hours of rest.
They went to open the door and found the elderly woman standing outside. In the hallway light, her hair appeared even whiter, but her face retained its usual impassive expression.
"Old lady, what is it?" Lin Tian asked.
The woman didn’t enter the room, and directly said, "The sky is dark now, and since neither of you came out, I thought you might have missed dinner. So I’m here to remind you if you need to eat."
At her mention, Lin Tian realized he was indeed a bit hungry, and Yun Xiaotian’s stomach protested with a growling sound.
The woman glanced at Yun Xiaotian, a hint of amusement in her eyes, but she maintained her cold demeanor, saying, "If you want something good, you can go to the restaurant. If you don’t want the hassle, I have some dumplings."
Lin Tian looked at Yun Xiaotian to gauge his preference, as he himself didn’t mind, but was concerned this kid wouldn’t like dumplings.
"Old lady, we can have dumplings, we have things to do later," Yun Xiaotian stated his choice.
The woman didn’t respond further, placed a basket down, then turned and left. Lin Tian picked it up and opened it to reveal a basket full of white dumplings.
"Ghost, come out and eat," Lin Tian shouted.
A dozen minutes later, the three of them polished off the basket of dumplings. After eating, Ghost glanced at the chaise lounge in the living room, his expression a bit odd.
However, without commenting, he said, "Brother Tian, have you noticed anything peculiar about that old lady?"
"Yes, she does seem odd. Normally, Qingshuang Pavilion’s Outer Pavilion Disciples should number in the hundreds or thousands. They could easily appoint a younger disciple to watch over the courtyard, yet they chose an elderly person, which is indeed unusual and contrary to our Huaxia tradition of respecting the elderly and cherishing the young," Lin Tian agreed, analyzing the situation.
