Young Master Vance Has An Enchanting Wife!-Chapter 86: An Accident at the Hotel
Jacob Jennings sighed slightly and honestly told May Morgan, "It’s fine, the young master just instructed me, he wants me to tell you everything. So, go ahead, whatever you want to ask, I’ll definitely answer truthfully."
Seeing Jacob Jennings so cooperative for once, May Morgan’s eyes darted around as she quickly seized the opportunity to ask, "Then let me ask you, when you went to my hometown to investigate my identity, was that really all there was to it?"
"Not entirely. The young master isn’t particularly interested in your background; what he’s concerned about is that jade pendant. He told me that it’s completely out of character for the old master to kill a benefactor who once saved him just for a jade pendant. It seems the old master might be hiding other things from us, so the young master hopes I can find an opportunity to investigate thoroughly."
May Morgan thought for a moment, then discussed with Jacob Jennings, "Investigating the villagers about the pendant won’t help. I believe, except for Mason Morgan, no one knows the secret of that jade pendant."
She recalled that before she left, Mason Morgan had once earnestly advised her to stay away from that jade pendant, because it could both protect her and harm her.
Someone who can say such cryptic words must know some inside information.
Jacob Jennings pondered a bit and felt that May’s words made sense. He nodded cautiously and told May, "Then let’s leave a bit later tomorrow, we’ll first go to the police station to see Mason Morgan, to check if he’s still hiding some secrets from us."
"You won’t find out anything that way unless we can catch him doing something wrong or have something tempting enough to exchange. Otherwise, he would never tell us truthfully."
May Morgan knew Mason Morgan too well. He seemed timid and spineless, but in reality, he was very cunning and daring.
The fact that he dared to deceive the old master and swap May and Melanie Morgan to marry into the Vance Family shows that he is not simple.
Jacob Jennings looked at May Morgan with some embarrassment and tentatively asked her, "Have you thought of any idea?"
"Mason Morgan would risk breaking the law for his eldest daughter and would never give in even if caught. What do you think he cares about the most?"
Upon hearing this, Jacob Jennings suddenly brightened up and quickly stood up from his chair, saying to May Morgan, "I get it, do you want me to use Melanie’s matter to threaten Mason Morgan?"
"Threatening won’t work, but we can negotiate with him. Just tell him that if he can reveal the real secret of the jade pendant, we can let Director Lawson quickly close the case and won’t further trouble Melanie."
However, letting Melanie off easily was impossible. May Morgan never intended to spare that wretched woman; murder demands justice, and debts demand repayment. Since she killed her grandmother, she must pay a painful price. For now, finding the jade pendant is most important; revenge can wait.
Jacob Jennings looked at May Morgan silently and said with some emotion, "Can you let it go? If it’s closed like this, Melanie, the murderer, might get away with it."
May Morgan clenched her fists and said through gritted teeth, "I know, but she has the old master’s backing. If I don’t defeat the old master and end his obsession with me and that jade pendant, there will be many more Melanies becoming his lackeys in the future. What I mean, you should understand; only by defeating Arthur Vance can I be truly free. As for revenge, once Arthur Vance falls, Melanie is nothing, right?"
May Morgan’s farsightedness surprised Jacob Jennings. He looked at her with admiration and respectfully said when leaving, "Madam, although you are young, your experience and vision impress me. I finally understand why the young master likes you."
If it were him, he probably would like such a girl as well.
Kind, but not naive, living resiliently with a principle of reciprocity—a girl like this, upon closer examination, really is intriguing.
Early the next day, Jacob Jennings drove alone to the police station to negotiate with Mason Morgan, using the method he discussed with May Morgan the previous night.
Before leaving, to ensure May’s safety, he deliberately pinned a delicate brooch on May’s clothing, telling her that it was a tracker. As long as she carried it, he could find her no matter where she went.
This was something Vincent Vance deliberately arranged for her protection. May Morgan looked down at the small brooch flashing with a red light on her chest, feeling warm inside.
Vincent Vance really cared about her. Who said he didn’t care about his own person? Sometimes, details reveal the character of a man.
After Jacob Jennings left, May Morgan felt utterly bored, so she lay on the bed watching TV. But after just a short while, she heard the sound of a fire alarm from the corridor.
Hmm? A fire? 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
May Morgan was puzzled and walked to the door to listen to the commotion outside. It seemed really chaotic in the corridor, with sounds of people moving around. As she hesitated whether to open the door to check the situation, someone suddenly knocked loudly on the door.
"Hello, I’m a hotel staff member. There’s a severe fire on the first floor of the hotel. Please open the door and follow me downstairs to escape the fire."
The staff outside shouted anxiously to May Morgan.
May Morgan was stunned and dared not open the door. The staff outside, hearing no movement from inside, thought there was no one in the room and quickly knocked on the next door.
Soon, smoke began to seep inside. Seeing this, May Morgan realized it was indeed a fire, and she hurriedly grabbed her handbag, not daring to even take her luggage, and dashed out the door.
There were still many people in the corridor who hadn’t been evacuated and were running fast. Afraid of being trampled in the crowd, May quickly sought the safety exit and ran downstairs.
The further she went down, the thicker the smoke became. After inhaling a few breaths of smoke, she almost choked and fainted. Having no choice, she temporarily hid in a relatively safe spot, took off her coat, and covered her mouth with it, leaving only an undershirt on. Then she took out her phone, planning to call Jacob Jennings.
At the moment Jacob Jennings’ call got through, someone suddenly bumped into her from behind, and her phone quickly flew down the stairs, out of reach.
What bad luck, May Morgan sighed helplessly and quickly covered her mouth with her clothing, sprinting downstairs.
Finally reaching the downstairs lobby, she was just about to follow the crowd to the exit when someone suddenly grabbed her arm from behind. Before she could react, a white towel swiftly blocked her mouth.
May struggled a few times, and all of a sudden, she went black in the eyes, knowing nothing more. Her tracker-laden clothing was discarded on the ground.
