Young Master Vance Has An Enchanting Wife!-Chapter 84: I Was Faking It
The jealousy of a woman can destroy everything; just look at Melanie. All the crazy things she did were because of Vincent. And Maxwell might very well tell others their whereabouts to get revenge on her.
The question now is, Maxwell is Vincent’s only sister. Even if he knows it’s his sister who leaked their whereabouts, how would he handle it?
Thinking of this, May’s heart suddenly sank again. Maxwell is Vincent’s only relative, even if she indirectly caused her grandmother’s death. He would certainly suppress the matter, wouldn’t he? He wouldn’t punish her, right?
Feeling restless, May ruffled her hair, threw her phone to the side, grabbed a quilt, and buried herself under it to sleep.
On the other hand, Vincent was waiting for May’s call—for over two hours.
Finally, unable to wait any longer, he furiously called Jacob Jennings: ’Did you make a mistake? I’ve been waiting for that girl’s call for two hours, yet there’s still no word from her!’
Jacob voiced his confusion with an "Um?" He got up from his bed, opened the door to check May’s room, and explained to Vincent, "Impossible, I hinted to Madam to call you before I left. Why hasn’t she called?"
Vincent’s face twisted with anger: "No kidding, if she had called, would I be calling you to hold you accountable?"
"Uh... maybe she was in a bad mood, too tired and just fell asleep. After she left the police station, she seemed in poor spirits. I thought she’d call you to vent her frustration, but apparently she didn’t call you."
Hearing that May was in a bad mood, Vincent quickly asked, "What did she say to Mason? Why is she upset?"
"I don’t know; she met with Mason alone. But you could ask Director Lawson for surveillance footage to see for yourself. Oh, and Madam was concerned, saying she feared being with you might harm you or something along those lines."
Vincent’s face darkened; he quickly hung up on Jacob and called Director Lawson. Ten minutes later, the recorded conversation between May and Mason was on Vincent’s computer.
After hearing what Mason said to May, he hesitated for a moment before picking up the phone and calling Jacob again.
"Once the rain stops, find a way to send Madam back and you stay in Crestwood to look into May’s background."
Jacob was startled and asked, "Investigate Madam’s identity? What’s going on?"
"I just watched the video. Mason said May wasn’t born to him but was brought back by her grandmother from Mount Caelus. Plus, there’s something unusual about her, all related to that Jade Pendant. Now I’m starting to think, Grandpa’s insistence on getting the pendant and May’s child isn’t just for my second uncle. Maybe there’s a bigger scheme."
Jacob’s eyes tightened as he promptly agreed: ’Alright, once the rain stops, I’ll have someone send Madam off, and leave the rest to me.’
The rain in Crestwood came and went quickly. When May woke up, the sky had cleared. She picked up her phone to check the time; it was past three in the afternoon. If she hurried, she could make it back to Silverwood City before evening.
As she put down her phone, she couldn’t resist picking it up to check the caller ID again. No one had called her, not even Vincent?
Hmph, so she wasn’t that important to him after all.
Just as she was about to call Jacob to discuss leaving, there was a knock at the door. It was Jacob: "Madam, the rain has stopped. The airport people said the flight can take off. Shall we leave now?"
May agreed, grabbed her coat and bag, opened the door, and told Jacob, "I’m ready to go."
Jacob didn’t say much else, he turned, helped her check out, and drove her to the airport.
On the way, Jacob suddenly advised May: ’Madam, I need to stay in Crestwood for a while to handle your grandmother’s matters. I’ve arranged for someone at the airport. Just get on the plane, don’t worry.’
Hearing that Jacob was staying behind, May glanced at him in puzzlement, asking, "Is there an emergency? Why the sudden decision to stay?"
With Jacob’s work style, if he had planned to stay, he would have told her. Since it was a sudden decision, something big must have happened in Crestwood.
Jacob, assigned to investigate May’s background, dared not reveal the secret and perfunctorily said: ’Not really, just some details Director Lawson mentioned that need verification before closing the case. These trivial matters needn’t bother you. Make sure to get back to Silverwood City before it gets dark.’
Seeing he was unwilling to divulge more, May refrained from asking further. Once at the airport, Jacob handed her over to the appointed person before driving off. The airport people courteously showed May to the plane. As soon as she boarded, she feigned a severe abdominal pain.
The staff, seeing her discomfort, hesitated to continue the flight and quickly took her to a hospital in Crestwood.
By the time they reached the hospital, it was nearly nightfall. The doctor examined May but found nothing wrong, prescribing some simple medication and didn’t require her to stay.
Since May was temporarily unable to return, the person responsible for her safety contacted Vincent and Jacob. Given the distance, Vincent couldn’t reach her immediately and asked Jacob to return first.
Jacob had just arrived in May’s hometown and hadn’t had the chance to investigate her past when Vincent called him back.
By the time he returned, May had already checked back into the previous hotel, clearly not leaving tonight. Jacob, speechless, looked at May, who didn’t appear sick at all, and couldn’t help but ask, "Madam, are you really feeling unwell?"
Knowing her ruse was exposed, May sheepishly admitted with a smile, "I was pretending."
Jacob’s mouth twitched as he grumpily questioned, "Madam, why did you fake illness? The young master in Silverwood City anxiously awaits your return. Don’t you know how worried he is when you’re not by his side?"
Thinking of how he hadn’t even called her, May grumbled, "Stop defending him. If he really cared, he wouldn’t have waited this long to call me."
