Young Master Vance Has An Enchanting Wife!-Chapter 295: Vincent Vance’s Wedding Invitation
"Auntie..." May Morgan’s eyes widened in surprise upon hearing this, staring at Heather Holt in disbelief.
Victor Grant had indeed never mentioned his sister to her, so she knew nothing about it.
Heather Holt glanced at May Morgan again, then placed the bowl in her hand aside, took a photo out of her bag, and showed it to May Morgan.
"Take a look, doesn’t this girl look a lot like you?" Heather pointed at the photo of a seven or eight-year-old girl, showing it to May.
May took the photo for a look. The girl in the picture did bear a 70-80% resemblance to her. If we compared her seven or eight-year-old photo with this girl’s, one might even think they were twins.
No wonder Victor Grant had looked at her with such a complex gaze the first time he saw her; it turns out she resembles his deceased sister.
"Our family wasn’t always wealthy like this. Over ten years ago, Victor’s father and I were busy managing various business dealings, so we neglected the care of our son and daughter. At that time, it was Victor who took care of his sister, so his bond with her was much deeper than with us. After his sister was kidnapped and killed, Victor started resenting us, blaming us for being too focused on making money without caring for our own children. If it weren’t for our negligence, his sister wouldn’t have been kidnapped, let alone died. Since then, Victor stopped attending school properly and began mingling with the wrong crowd. Neither his father nor I could persuade him, and knowing how we wronged him, we ended up letting him be."
While speaking, Heather Holt suddenly wiped the corner of her eyes. Seeing this, May quickly handed her a damp wipe and consoled her, "Auntie, please don’t be sad. Since I resemble your daughter so much, why don’t I consider you my godmother?"
Heather Holt glanced at May Morgan and added deliberately, "I would love to have you as my goddaughter, but would Victor agree? Do you think he only wants to marry you because you look like his sister? Look at him; has he ever cared for any other woman? Somehow, he just can’t forget you. Even when his father and I were hospitalized, he didn’t stay overnight to take care of us. But when you fainted, he took care of you without eating or drinking for three days straight. This kind of devotion, even his father couldn’t match."
Heather Holt’s words made May Morgan feel guilty, yet she remained emotionally conflicted. After all, a previous marriage had left her heartbroken; how could she dare to step into the treacherous territory of marriage again?
"Auntie, I understand, but my health isn’t very good right now, and I can’t get married." May still saw Heather Holt as an elder, and didn’t want to be too blunt.
Heather Holt seized the opportunity and quickly said to May, "That’s okay, once you’re better, we can plan the wedding for you two. Or, if marriage seems too soon, you could just get engaged first."
May looked at Heather, who was lost in her own fantasies, overwhelmed with speechlessness.
"Auntie, I’m actually just ordinary friends with your son. I think getting married is a bit..."
Realizing that prolonging the ambiguity would only lead to trouble, May decided to clarify things to avoid any awkwardness later.
Heather Holt paused, looked at May Morgan’s earnest face, pondered for a moment, and then said, "Well, well, maybe you could start by being friends with Victor?"
This...
"Alright..."
At this point, May knew further refusal might come off as pretentious. Besides, Victor Grant had promised not to pressure her, so she decided to appease the persistent Heather Holt for now.
Seeing nothing more to say to May, Heather Holt stood to leave, knowing her son was waiting outside for good news.
"I’ll step out for a bit. If you need anything, just call the maid outside." Heather Holt instructed May before turning and exiting the hospital room. As soon as she stepped out, Victor Grant grabbed his mother’s hand and whispered, "How did it go?"
Heather sighed helplessly, shook her head at him, and said, "She agreed to be your girlfriend for now, but I don’t think rushing the marriage will work."
Victor Grant looked utterly lost and disappointed. If even his mother couldn’t convince her, who else could he turn to for help?
"Forget it, son. Come home and clean up a bit. Look at you, so disheveled." In distress, Heather took Victor’s hand and led him out of the hospital.
Just as they returned home, a servant handed them a finely crafted red wedding invitation. Heather picked it up and saw it was from Vincent Vance and Brianna White.
Victor Grant’s anger flared upon seeing the invitation, and he snatched it, ready to tear it to pieces. But Heather quickly grabbed it back with a shrewd look in her eyes.
"Are you stupid? If you tear it up, how will you show it to May?" Heather held the invitation aloft, sneeringly telling Victor, "Vincent sure is shameless. Getting married is one thing, but sending an invitation to his ex-wife is outright provocation. If I were May, I’d go over there and tear his face apart."
Victor Grant contemplated the invitation, feeling it was out of character for Vincent to send it. Vincent might be cold-blooded, but he wasn’t that tactless.
It was probably Brianna White stirring trouble again.
"I doubt it was Vincent who sent the invitation. It must have been orchestrated by Brianna—that woman is despicable."
"Who cares? It’s still their invitation. Does it matter who sent it?" Heather said slyly, holding the invitation. "Later, show this to May at the hospital, and say it’s from Vincent. Don’t mess up and reveal the truth, understood?"
Victor Grant glanced at his mother, then down at the conspicuous invitation, hesitantly saying, "May is finally getting better. Isn’t it too harsh to upset her with this?"
Heather shot Victor an exasperated look and sighed, "Is your emotional intelligence that low? If you don’t provoke her now, how will she ever agree to marry you once she’s over it completely?"
"This..." Victor hesitated for a long time, but finally reached out and took the invitation.
Indeed, if he didn’t seize this opportunity to make her say yes, he might never get another chance to be with her in this lifetime.
After composing himself, Victor Grant took the invitation to the hospital. As he gazed at May’s face, he hesitated and said, "I saw this when I went home just now..."
Victor handed May the invitation. As she opened and glanced at it, darkness nearly enveloped her vision, and she nearly fainted.
On the invitation, the wedding photo of Vincent Vance and Brianna White was printed prominently, and it was so overwhelming that May felt an acrid sting rise in her nose, almost driving her to tears.
