Young Master Vance Has An Enchanting Wife!-Chapter 283: This Was Not Man-Made
May Morgan grabbed the flashlight from Victor Grant’s hand and carefully examined the area around the deceased, then noticed near the three of them, there were winding blood trails.
These crawling trails were very much like earthworm tracks; they were too small to observe without careful inspection.
"Look at these blood trails!" May pointed at the tiny winding blood marks on the ground, speaking to Victor Grant.
Under May’s guidance, Victor carefully looked with the flashlight and indeed saw two lines resembling worm tracks, leading from the corpse to the warehouse exit. However, because the blood dried quickly, they faded away after about a meter.
Victor looked at these blood marks, strangely asking, "What is this? Why does it look like worm tracks?"
May stared at the ground trails for a long time before softly speaking, "This is indeed worm tracks."
Victor’s subordinates replied indifferently upon hearing: "I thought it was something serious? Turns out it’s just worms, this warehouse is so old, there must be many worms, nothing to fuss about, right?"
May looked up at Victor’s ignorant subordinates, a sneer of contempt appearing at the corner of her lips, "Since that’s the case, then you all will be responsible for guarding here tonight. I’ll call the police later; when they arrive, then you can leave?"
Kevin Warren, who went through the terrifying ordeal, outright refused to stay: "The person is dead, I think we should just call the police directly; keeping people to guard a corpse is a waste anyway."
Though Victor’s subordinates were all small-time hoodlums without family ties, three people died inexplicably. If they don’t report it, it wouldn’t sit right, but if they did, Victor’s harassment of Brianna White might be exposed.
"How about we just handle it as a regular accident? I’ll offer extra compensation to these people’s families, let’s leave it at that?" Victor said to May, somewhat apprehensive.
May gave him a sidelong glance, displeased with his actions, and promptly took her phone and called the police without another word.
Upon hearing May call the police herself, Victor said to May, feeling somewhat displeased, "When did it become your place to decide on my subordinates’ affairs?"
Victor had always been compliant with May before, whatever she said was done, but for some reason, in this matter, Victor was particularly opinionated. Seeing May take the initiative to report to the police, his tone even turned somewhat discourteous.
May ignored him, reported the incident, and turned to leave the warehouse. Victor, seeing this, quickly followed her out; once inside the car, both seemed to have a breath stuck in their chest, neither wanting to speak to the other. Victor just stared at May, remaining silent, and refused to start the car.
Until the sound of police sirens approached from afar, Victor finally couldn’t hold back and said to May, "I know why you want to report to the police, you just can’t let go of that person, can you?"
May didn’t want to engage with Victor, so she simply turned her face towards the car window without saying a word. Victor felt like he was hitting a brick wall, yet continued unsatisfied, "You just want to use this incident to show Vincent that Brianna is no good, maybe not even human; you just can’t let go of him, fearing he might get into trouble, right?"
May pursed her lips, considering speaking, but after thinking it over, she chose silence again. Victor, seeing her persistently unwilling to respond, grew irritated, reaching out to grab May’s shoulder, forcibly turning her head from looking out the window.
"Look at my face and answer me, is it like this? You can’t let go of that bastard, can you? You fear he’ll be killed by someone like Brianna, so you insist on reporting to the police, right?"
May felt she had to say something; otherwise, Victor might go insane, his actions could become violent.
"I don’t intend to protect Vincent; his life or death has nothing to do with me. But Brianna has a grudge against me, and I’ve said I’m a person who always avenges my grudges, so I’ll chase her relentlessly."
"Haven’t I told you before? Her grudge, I’ll help you settle. Since that’s the case, why insist on reporting to the police?"
"You saw it yourself, just one encounter, and three of your subordinates died miserably. This kind of terrifying woman isn’t something you can handle, is it?" May felt Victor was oversimplifying things, perhaps showing some courage but lacking strategy. He had many people, and his money flowed endlessly, but in this world, not everything can be dealt with by having funds and manpower; some things remain elusive despite spending vast amounts or bringing in countless people.
Brianna can deal with three strong young men at once, killing them instantly, enough to illustrate she possesses terrifying power, something too lightly considered. She should have realized it; with Vincent’s wisdom and vision, how could he easily stumble of a mess under such a woman’s hands? Maybe this woman is also adept in poison, and Vincent’s obsession with her might inadvertently stem from being affected by her love poison.
If her suspicion proves true, then she wronged Vincent; if this sufficiently exonerates Vincent, then his feelings toward her would...
Victor seemed somewhat feverish with anger due to May, consequently feeling like her questioning implied doubts about his capability, elevating his rage uncontrollably: "Are you doubting my capability? May, in your eyes, am I so weak? So useless?"
May had no desire to bicker over such useless matters; the most pressing issue now was understanding precisely who Brianna White was and uncovering how many secrets she held.
"I can’t be bothered to talk to you!" May rolled her eyes at Victor, extending her hand to open the car door, walking towards the approaching police cars.
The police were already negotiating with Victor’s subordinates, upon seeing May arrive, Wyatt Warren promptly told the officers, "This is our big sister; if you have questions, just feel free to ask her."
May was exasperated with Wyatt, repeatedly telling him not to speak recklessly, yet he continued calling her "big sister." Now caught up with Victor’s subordinates, she’d inevitably get involved.
The police in Silverwood City mostly knew May since she was previously Vincent’s wife, and Vincent’s influence throughout the city was significant.
It’s just that this woman’s transition from Vincent’s wife to being with Victor was quite perplexing. This relationship certainly adeptly complex.
"So, Mrs. Vance, is it? Please, does this case truly involve you?" one policeman asked May, rather uncertainly.
May thought for a moment, then deflectively answered, "How’s this case related to me? I’m just an outsider; if you have inquiries, you’d better ask their leader, Victor Grant. By the way, Victor and I are merely ordinary friends, not as complex as some might think."
