Young Master Vance Has An Enchanting Wife!-Chapter 269: Parting Ways, Becoming Strangers
Victor Grant was like a treasure hunter, holding the effective divorce agreement from the coffee table, looking at it repeatedly to confirm that it was indeed Vincent Vance’s handwriting. Only then did he happily say to May Morgan, "May, now that the divorce agreement is signed, does this mean you’re free?"
May gave him a sideways glance, looked at his sly face, and asked somewhat speechlessly, "What do you want?"
Victor chuckled, scratched his head a bit embarrassed, and said, "Not much, I’m just happy for you."
From his little thoughts, May could tell at a glance that he was probably fantasizing about getting a marriage certificate with her, right? But although May was anxious to divorce Vincent Vance, she never thought about marrying Victor Grant!
"I’m a bit tired now, I’ll go back and lie down for a while, don’t come in and disturb me!" May felt especially upset inside, wanting to cry, but fearful that if she cried it would be seen by Victor who would laugh at her, so she wanted to hide and cry secretly.
Victor was indeed honest, she told him not to disturb her and he really didn’t dare to knock on the door all night. Meanwhile, only Miller came over to knock on the door, asking May if she wanted a midnight snack, to which May replied indifferently saying no, and after that, it was a quiet night.
Things were calm here, but over there with Maxwell Vance, everyone was in a heated rush. Maxwell had just gotten off the operating table, the child barely preserved, but a few conflicting words from Adam Owens caused bleeding again, sending her back into the operating room. By the time Vincent arrived at the hospital with the meticulously brewed Yellow Lip Fish Jelly, Maxwell had already been rescued from the emergency room for the second time.
Though the child was barely saved this time, the doctor stated clearly that if the mother wanted to keep the fetus from miscarrying, the only way was to stay in bed and administer injections to support the pregnancy every day.
This bed rest wasn’t like ordinary rest lying in bed but required the body to lie flat without moving, even turning over needed assistance from others. The expectant mother couldn’t exert force with her waist; once she did, the uterus might contract, leading to signs of miscarriage, so Maxwell Vance might spend the entire pregnancy in bed.
This wasn’t the worst part; the worst was that Maxwell needed to eat, drink, defecate, and urinate all in bed. Even if her body developed bedsores, even if lying caused her bones to ache, she had to remain in bed. Meals needed to be spoon-fed, and even going to the bathroom had to be done in bed.
In other words, Maxwell Vance now was a person without physical illness but had to lie in bed like a paralyzed patient for over two hundred days, during which she had to stay vigilant to prevent any accidents with the child, so the best course of action was to rest in the hospital where she could receive immediate medical attention if necessary.
After Vincent had someone feed Maxwell the bowl of premium Yellow Lip Fish Jelly, Maxwell, exhausted and weak, fell asleep in bed.
Audrey Vance was always by her side, serving her. Seeing that Maxwell’s situation had come to a temporary halt, Audrey finally sighed and walked out into the small lounge outside the ward to sit down.
Vincent looked at his sister’s bloodless face and weak body, said nothing, then turned and walked out of the small lounge into the hallway.
He saw Adam, head down, standing in the hallway not far from the ward, deep in thought, so he walked over, looked coldly at him.
Adam felt afraid when he saw Vincent, instinctively stepped back two steps: "What are you doing?" 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
Vincent didn’t want to beat him this time. Although he wanted to hit the bastard, he knew that Maxwell ultimately still cared for Adam. If he beat Adam in front of Maxwell, her emotional agitation could have unimaginable consequences.
"I’ve divorced May." Vincent looked deeply at Adam, his tone somber.
Adam was taken aback but soon felt ashamed, turning his face to the side: "That was your wrongdoing towards her, it has nothing to do with me."
Vincent sneered, pushed Adam against the wall behind him, and Adam feared Vincent might suddenly assault him, immediately puffing his body defensively.
Vincent’s voice was terrifyingly cold, sounding like a demon: "Listen, I have more important things to do now, so I won’t hit you, but you need to treat my sister well. As her man, you must protect her. That’s your responsibility, you understand?"
Adam paused, a bit unconvinced, saying to Vincent: "I never said I wouldn’t take responsibility for Maxwell. I was wrong to be with May during the day, but we just wanted to gain closure from our past feelings. I never thought of doing anything to your sister."
"Good, as long as you said that, remember your words today!" Vincent’s words were still heavily weighted as a threat, yet he gracefully pulled Adam back from leaning against the wall, tidying his creased clothes while he was at it.
"A man can hold his most beloved woman in his heart, but you should know what responsibility is, what the bottom line is." After throwing these words at Adam, Vincent turned and went back into the ward.
He gave Audrey a look, and Audrey looked at him too. When Vincent went out to talk to Adam earlier, Audrey was afraid that Vincent would beat Adam again, so she quickly went to the door to take a look but saw Vincent didn’t cause trouble for Adam, instead politely talked to him. Only then Audrey felt relieved.
"Vincent, Adam is just childish. Actually, he knows his limits." Audrey felt as if she had watched Adam grow up, although not biological, almost like he was.
Vincent smiled wryly and turned to sit across from Audrey: "I know, in the future, Maxwell will still need to rely on Adam, I won’t do anything to him again."
Audrey felt relieved that Vincent knew to let go this time, "It would’ve been good if you saw things clearly earlier. You tell me now, for May, you offended your grandfather, and the consequences are many hardships now? But what about May, that woman? She turns around and harms your sister, what are you really after?"
Vincent nodded, his eyes slowly dropped, showing a defeated demeanor: "I know, only now have I seen the true nature of that woman, so I just divorced her, completely severed ties with her."
When Audrey heard Vincent divorced May, her eyes sparkled instantly, "Really? That’s good, that woman is vicious, not suitable for being a woman of the Vance Family. Divorce is better, auntie will find a better girl for you."
Vincent, after hearing, just smiled calmly, "No hurry, let’s deal with Maxwell’s matter first."
Saying this, Vincent again turned his head to glance at the sleeping Maxwell in the ward, sighing slightly: "I have only one sister, poor thing liked Adam since childhood, for Adam, to give him a child, suffered greatly. Also hope auntie will take better care of her in the future. Maxwell’s temper isn’t good, Adam is also irritable, try to let her have less contact with Adam, make sure to have her safely deliver the child first."
