Chapter 268: Chapter 268: Let’s Get Divorced

"However, I have a condition, and that is, you need to sign on this. Once you’ve signed, I’ll give you the stuff immediately."

May Morgan bent down and handed the divorce agreement to Vincent Vance once more, passing the pen along too. It was clear just how determined she was to divorce Vincent.

Vincent looked down at the divorce agreement, his fingers slightly stiffening, yet he lacked the courage to grab that pen.

Victor Grant couldn’t wait for Vincent to divorce May; after all, without that marital tie, he could proceed with his next steps with May.

"Vincent, what are you standing there for? Do you not care about your sister’s unborn child?" Victor reminded him smugly, seeing how Vincent just stood there, lost in thought.

Seeing Vincent’s reluctance to sign, May slowly spoke again, "Let me tell you a fact, your sister’s child was lost because of me."

What?

Upon hearing this, Vincent was shocked and looked up at May’s face, "What did you just say? The child in Maxwell’s womb was because of you..."

"Yes, it was intentional on my part. I deliberately sought out Adam, tricking him into thinking I wanted a final farewell with him. We went to places we used to hang out and reminisced about old times. I hinted to Adam to post those photos on social media, knowing Maxwell would see them and confront me. It was all my plan to act vulnerable, making Adam defend me and hit Maxwell. Everything was my design."

"Why would you do this?" Vincent’s face showed a hint of anger, and it was clear that he was furious about May deliberately harming Maxwell’s child.

May faced him without fear, her sneer intensifying, "You’ve known me long enough to understand what sort of person I am. If someone doesn’t provoke me, I don’t provoke them. But if they do, I repay them manifold. Did I provoke your sister when she drugged me? I even tried to persuade Adam to treat her better. How did she repay me? She turned around and drugged me. Vincent, don’t ask me why. The child wasn’t in your womb; you could never understand what losing him meant to me. I wanted Maxwell to taste the agony of losing motherhood, and she deserves what’s happening now—all her own fault!"

As May cursed Maxwell through clenched teeth, tears suddenly streamed uncontrollably down her face. Witnessing her intense sobbing, Vincent’s heartache extinguished his hatred for her.

"May, the child is innocent. You shouldn’t vent adult grievances on an innocent child..."

"Oh, really? Your sister’s child is innocent, but mine wasn’t, is that right? Vincent, you’re such a gentleman. Your own child means nothing, but someone else’s child is like a treasure. You deserve to die alone. I would curse you to be childless forever because a man like you doesn’t deserve children!"

This curse was vicious, and Vincent’s internal struggle was unspeakable. Didn’t he care for that child? He risked everything for the child, hoping to protect both the child and May’s lives. But with fate as it was, what could he do?

"I’m truly sorry for my past actions towards you. Asking you to leave with nothing in this divorce agreement is unfair to you. How about this: if you really want a divorce, I’ll have someone draft a new agreement compensating you fairly. What do you think?"

Vincent glanced again at the divorce agreement, carefully negotiating with May.

May didn’t want to be entangled any longer; she had already seen through his intentions—he never planned to divorce her.

She couldn’t understand; since the love was gone, why persist? She wanted nothing, willing to hand over the title of Mrs. Vance to the woman he admired. Wasn’t that good enough?

"No need. Victor Grant’s family wealth is no less than yours. He will buy me what I want!" To prompt Vincent for a quick divorce, May roped in Victor.

Hearing this, Victor quickly chimed in, "Yeah, my family has plenty of money—I don’t care about your little earnings. If you’re a man, show some spine, sign, and I can go and get married to May!"

He opportunistically brought up marriage with May, prompting a speechless glare from her, making Victor awkwardly turn aside, shyly sticking out his tongue.

Vincent looked at the divorce agreement before him but couldn’t muster the resolve to sign his name.

Just as he was hesitating, his phone rang. Seeing it was a call from Jacob Jennings, he answered.

"Young Master, something’s gone wrong; Miss Maxwell is showing signs of severe hemorrhaging. It’s urgent."

"What? How could this happen?" Hearing that Maxwell, who had just had surgery, was suddenly experiencing hemorrhaging, Vincent turned pale and immediately stood up from the sofa.

Jacob dared not hide the truth, revealing, "Miss Maxwell got into a quarrel with Mr. Adam during her return to the room. You know Mr. Adam is young and reckless. His words might have been harsh, and given Miss Maxwell’s stubborn nature, this might have..."

"I understand, I’m heading back now!"

Vincent exhaled heavily, hanging up the phone. Before he could put it down, Jacob added, "Young Master, is there any way you can procure Yellow Lip Fish Jelly? Without it to stop the bleeding, we might lose not just the child but..."

"Understood." After ending Jacob’s call, Vincent closed his eyes, deeply troubled for a full minute. In that minute, he was overwhelmed with turmoil. He knew that signing the paper would sever all ties with May, but if he didn’t sign, then Maxwell...

When he opened his eyes again, there was no hesitation. He walked back to the coffee table, not even sitting down, hastily signing his name on the divorce agreement with the pen.

"I’ve signed it. I’ll take the item now, and I’ll have the money sent over at five times the market price soon." 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

Throwing the pen aside, Vincent coldly tossed this remark at Victor, then turned to grab the box containing the Yellow Lip Fish Jelly and hurried out.

Watching Vincent’s hurried departure and then glancing at the signed divorce agreement, a large space suddenly felt empty within May’s heart.

She knew how deep her feelings for Vincent ran. Although they didn’t spend long together, the emotions surpassed the five years with Adam, yet now, her resentment matched how good he had been to her.

To love deeply is to hate deeply—perhaps that’s what they say.
