Chapter 231: Chapter 231: Wanting to Divorce Him

The servants still knew how to weigh their words carefully. After all, Maxwell Vance was a married woman with little actual standing at Zenith Villa, so they all advised her to let it go and not provoke May Morgan.

Maxwell Vance, as the eldest daughter of the Vance Family, had never suffered such humiliation. She shouted relentlessly, "What do you mean? She’s an outsider, and I have to put up with her? Who does she think she is?"

The servants sighed helplessly and quietly said to Maxwell, "Isn’t the young lady pregnant? The young master values the child in her belly greatly, so we have to be extremely careful in our actions, please be accommodating."

"Yes, yes, after all, she’s carrying the young master’s seed, Miss, don’t make a fuss. It wouldn’t be good for anyone."

Their words left Maxwell speechless for a long while. Indeed, she was still a member of the Vance Family, but why did May Morgan win them all over with the child of her brother in her belly?

Thinking about this, when Maxwell looked at May’s belly again, her eyes filled with an indelible resentment.

May, disinterested in engaging with Maxwell, turned around and shut her bedroom door, isolating that damn woman outside. Vincent was having an affair outside; she was already annoyed enough. Now another burden was in her home. Did she still want to live like this?

After dealing with Maxwell, May quickly picked up her phone and called Jacob Jennings. Even though she heard the woman’s voice clearly earlier, she still felt Vincent wasn’t like that, so she wanted to verify it with Jacob Jennings.

Vincent didn’t come home last night. Maybe he just stayed at Jacob’s house. As for that woman, perhaps Vincent’s phone got misplaced somewhere, and the woman happened to pick it up?

Ugh, so irritating!

Jacob’s phone connected quickly. May took a deep breath and pretended to ask casually, "So, Jacob, did Vincent stay over at your place last night?"

Upon hearing this, Jacob hurriedly and awkwardly replied, "Uh... yes, the two of us were busy until late, so he didn’t go back home and stayed over here."

May sensed something was off in Jacob’s voice and deliberately asked, "Is Vincent with you now? I want to have a word with him."

"Oh, he... um, he went to the office, just left." Jacob, again, awkwardly replied.

The more May listened, the more she felt Jacob was being suspicious. Jacob was usually straightforward, not like this stumbling over his words, unless he was hiding something from her.

Thinking about it, May asked again, "So Vincent went to work, right? I’ll call the driver to take me over to the office to find him."

"No, um, he might go out of town later for business. You might not find him if you go now. If something comes up, just call the young master?"

May gave a derisive laugh and intentionally said, "I did, but a sweet-voiced woman answered. She said Vincent was with her. I’m not quite sure what’s going on, so I came to ask you."

This left Jacob speechless. May knew she’d hit the mark when Jacob fell silent on the other end, causing a chill to run through her heart.

Her greatest fear was that Vincent would abandon her when she was no longer useful, and, in the end, he did exactly that.

"Alright, I know everything now, hanging up." May’s voice was choked as she moved to end the call.

Hearing May’s voice filled with pain, as if she might cry, Jacob quickly tried to comfort her, "Young mistress, the young master was in a bad mood after arguing with you last night. Don’t blame him."

"Enough, hanging up!" May, unwilling to listen to Jacob desperately trying to explain for Vincent, quickly ended the call.

As soon as the call ended, May’s heart sank to the bottom, unable to rise again.

Vincent didn’t come home last night. Naively, she thought he might have gone to Jacob’s to vent his frustrations, only to find out he possibly went out to cheat?

The saying goes, once unfaithful, forever unreliable. Vincent, since you dared have an affair during our marriage, don’t blame me for being ruthless.

May rubbed her reddened eyes, rapidly wiping away a tear of grievance before she turned and went to Vincent’s study.

In the study, she opened Vincent’s computer and began printing a divorce agreement. After all, she had her pride; her background could allow for a clean break, but she couldn’t tolerate her man being in bed with another woman.

Once a simple divorce agreement was printed, May grabbed a pen from the desk, swiftly signed, planning to harshly throw the agreement in Vincent’s face the moment he came back and then leave.

However, just as she put down the ballpoint pen, she suddenly noticed on Vincent’s desk corner was the photo album he brought back from her hometown.

Looking at that old photo album, May’s heart was moved. She quickly sat down, took the album, and gently opened it.

The album had always been in his study. Last time, when she visited Mason Morgan, she brought it once. Then she flipped it page by page for him to see and noticed the photo of her at sixteen seemed to have been moved. She didn’t pay attention to it then.

This time, as she found that sixteen-year-old photo, she intentionally took it out of the album and looked at it. As expected, there was a line of strong handwriting behind it.

"Longing to be with you every day, hate that we weren’t born together."

Ugh, so cliché!

Looking at the line Vincent had inscribed, May felt her cheeks flush, inwardly belittling it silently. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

But as she thought more about it, she suddenly became melancholic again. Truly, relationships were like that; during good times, you wish to give your heart to the other, but once you’re tired, even explanations seem excessive.

Sighing helplessly, May put the photo back along with the entire album and the printed divorce agreement, placing them in her bedroom drawer.

When opening the drawer, May also saw the exquisite jewelry box with the diamond ring inside, but she didn’t take it. She wouldn’t keep anything belonging to him, nor would she abandon her own belongings.

Since she decided to break up, she should end it cleanly, not leaving a trace.

By noon, Vincent still hadn’t returned. May felt drained of energy as if her body had been wrung dry. Even when the servant called her to come down to eat, the thought of seeing that troublesome sister-in-law made her too lazy to move. So she requested the servant to bring the meal to her.

About ten minutes later, the servant brought the food, placed it on the small table in the bedroom, and invited May to eat.

Thinking she couldn’t let the child in her belly go hungry, May roused herself to eat a few bites. The lotus seed soup on the table tasted quite nice, fresh and mild, so she had a bit more.
