Chapter 221: Chapter 221: Pulling the Same Old Trick Again

In his dreams, he suddenly saw a startlingly pale face appear before him, a face devoid of any blood yet strangely familiar. At times, it transformed into the likeness of Melanie, at other times into the likeness of Melody White. Finally, the two terrifying faces overlapped and morphed into an even uglier visage resembling dried tree bark.

The face had a pair of yellow eyes similar to those of cold-blooded animals, now emanating a terrifying light, staring at him coldly, making his hair stand on end, yet leaving him with nowhere to escape.

Vincent had never been so frightened, so much that he woke up drenched in cold sweat, shocked awake from the nightmare.

Once awake, he immediately lifted his head to glance at May on the bed opposite, discovering that she was sound asleep, hugging the quilt, allowing his heart to finally relax slowly.

He couldn’t remember when May had become the most important person in his life, whenever danger approached, she was the first person he thought of, the first person he worried about. He was well aware that this woman had penetrated his very being, through his limbs, forever indelible.

Perhaps loving someone is just that peculiar, even though they had argued and fought, May had even embarrassed him in front of the servants, but as soon as he met danger, instinctively, he would think of her, this woman who haunted his thoughts.

With a helpless, bitter smile, Vincent rose from the Imperial Concubine Chair, walked quietly to the bed, and pulled the quilt over to cover May.

The morning breeze always carried a chill, and May had a habit of kicking the quilt off. Vincent had developed this into his biological clock; he would wake up promptly at four in the morning to check whether she’d kicked the quilt off, then cover her properly.

Speaking of this habit, it all started when the two of them began living together. Back then, they shared a quilt. At midnight, when May felt cold, she would roll herself into it tightly, like a Mexican chicken wrap; later, feeling hot, she’d kick the quilt off entirely, leaving Vincent to shiver awake, having no choice but to gather the quilt back up and cover them both properly. Over time, waking up at midnight to fix the quilt became an essential part of Vincent’s routine.

Today is Maxwell’s wedding day, as Maxwell’s sister-in-law, May is certainly expected to attend.

However, Vincent still took careful care of May. So, as soon as he woke up, he had the servants prepare everything for going out and, only when it was almost time, did he go to wake May.

To be honest, May was somewhat reluctant to go. First, because she’d had an unpleasant argument with Maxwell yesterday, whose temper was notoriously bad. What if they disagreed and fought at the wedding? Secondly, the wedding wasn’t solely Maxwell’s affair, it was Adam’s too. Given that it’s Adam’s wedding, his old friends would definitely attend. Most of Adam’s friends knew her, aware she’d been Adam’s girlfriend for several years. Now that time has passed and circumstances have changed, wouldn’t seeing each other be awkward?

So, when the servants knocked on the door calling her down for breakfast, May deliberately held her pillow and pretended to have a stomachache. The servant was so frightened by this that she hurried downstairs to inform Vincent of May’s stomach pains.

Upon hearing this, Vincent quickly came upstairs to check on May’s condition, also reaching his hand to touch May’s forehead, intending to see if she was feverish again.

Since May was pretending, she naturally dared not let Vincent touch her; when he reached out, she turned and moaned, evading his hand.

Vincent paused his hand mid-air, looked at May deliberately turned away, and suddenly let out a cold laugh.

Little rascal, playing pretend with him, huh?

Just wait and see how I deal with you!

"Perhaps the Young Madam caught a chill last night and ate something bad, call Dr. Lawson to prescribe some medicine!"

Dr. Lawson was the private doctor at Zenith Villa, living not far away, the servant hurried to make a call, and in no time, Dr. Lawson stepped inside the room.

As soon as Dr. Lawson pushed open the door, he saw Vincent subtly signaling to him, and being a smart man, after noticing the Young Madam’s deliberate groaning with the quilt, she understood somewhat.

"Young Master, perhaps the Young Madam ate something bad last night?" Dr. Lawson asked Vincent, probing.

Vincent shook his head, denying, "Unlikely, ever since she got pregnant, I’ve had someone monitor her meals. It’s improbable she ate anything bad!"

"Then she could have caught a chill last night, it’s not harmful, I’ll prescribe some medicine for her to drink." Dr. Lawson smiled faintly, deliberately leaning in closer to Vincent and said, "Considering she’s pregnant, there might be side effects with Western medicine, how about I prescribe some traditional medicine for her?" 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

"Alright, go ahead!" Knowing May was feigning, Vincent nodded calmly, permitting.

Dr. Lawson quickly instructed the servant to fetch his medicine kit from outside, but upon hearing that traditional medicine was involved, May’s face turned pale, and she quickly turned to Dr. Lawson with a pleading expression, "Dr. Lawson, could you prescribe some sweet traditional medicine for me?"

Dr. Lawson pushed his glasses up his nose and teasingly said to May, "Where’s the sweetness in traditional medicine? You must bear it; it’s not much, just drink one bottle, after that you’ll sleep well, all better."

One bottle... what concept is that?

Thinking about the taste of traditional medicine, May’s stomach lurched, scared, she hastily crawled out of bed, with a refreshed demeanor, smiling at Vincent, "I... I suddenly don’t feel a stomachache anymore."

Vincent looked at her coldly, not intending to let her off that easily, "Really not aching anymore? What if it flares up halfway?"

Dr. Lawson quickly chimed in with Vincent, "Indeed, Young Madam, for precaution’s sake, how about drinking the medicine?"

As he spoke, the servant had already opened the door, bringing the medicine bottle he wanted, and placed it into Vincent’s hands.

The medicine bottle was dark, and once the cap was opened, the smell was enough to nauseate.

Vincent leisurely opened the bottle, deliberately raised his brows at May, threatening, "Will you drink or not?"

May’s mouth twitched; if she knew it’d end up like this, she would’ve kept silent about her stomachache. This medicine bottle looked like poison; how to drink it?

"I... I said I’m fine now!" May said with a stern face, determined not to drink.

"Never mind, you and I are husband and wife, through thick and thin, I’ll feed you to drink." As soon as Vincent spoke, he suddenly held the medicine bottle, tilted back his head, took a sip, and before May could react, he swiftly grabbed her little head and kissed her lips.
