Young Master Vance Has An Enchanting Wife!-Chapter 199: The Mystery of Victor Grant’s Origins
After all, he’s such a jerk, such a scoundrel. It’s really hard to imagine, if he had parents alive, how furious he would make them.
"Yeah? What’s with that expression?" Victor Grant noticed something off in May Morgan’s eyes and couldn’t help but ask curiously.
"No, nothing. By the way, I’ve never asked about your family situation. What does your father do?" May quickly hid the doubt in her eyes and asked awkwardly.
Perhaps not wanting May to know much about his family affairs, when May asked about his father, Victor Grant immediately replied dismissively, "Just doing business, nothing too grand."
Just then, someone rang the doorbell outside the villa. Seeing this, Victor quickly walked out from the kitchen and said, "The food must be here, I’ll go get it. Be right back."
Victor had ordered six dishes in total, as well as the specialty congee from the Imperial Garden. After helping set the plates, the server specifically explained to Victor, "Sir, these dishes are specially made for pregnant women, and this congee is absolutely fine for them too."
"Alright, alright, got it."
Victor waved impatiently, signaling the server to leave. May came out of the kitchen at that moment, overhearing the server’s words, she felt somewhat touched, and said to him, "I’m not that delicate, actually."
Victor glanced up at her, suddenly sighed softly, and said, "It’s nothing bad for girls to be pampered a little."
"Is that so? But I thought you didn’t respect women much before. But now it seems you have a gentle side too." Looking at the table full of dishes, May rested her chin on her hands and sincerely said to Victor.
Just as Victor was about to serve some food into May’s bowl, her compliment made him blush slightly.
"Really? Was I that much of a jerk before?"
"Yeah, I remember the first time I saw you, you had your people do that to Melanie, I thought you were a real scoundrel. Of course, my sister brought it on herself, but at least she and you were somewhat involved, right? But you just ditched her for a bit of business."
"Stop it. Nothing happened between your sister and me, it was just that time I got drunk and was set up by your husband. Otherwise, would I have been interested in her?" Victor didn’t like hearing May always bringing up the past with Melanie, so he explained seriously.
"You had nothing to do with her, yet she used your people to attack me?" May rolled her eyes, thinking men are full of lies, she’d be crazy to believe it.
"That’s because she was Vincent’s fiancée at the time, and since Silverwood City was their territory, I had to give her some face, right?"
"Okay, okay, I don’t want to argue about this with you, it’s meaningless." May felt that discussing whether Victor had a fling with Melanie was tedious. He’s not her husband, so who he slept with was none of her business.
"Why is it meaningless? I’m just trying to tell you, I didn’t have that kind of relationship with your sister."
May didn’t want to argue anymore, but Victor got up from his chair in agitation, insisting on clarifying things with her.
May looked at him in shock, feeling that if they kept arguing, he’d get really worked up, so she quickly said gently, "I understand, can we eat now? I’m hungry..."
Victor had a short temper, easily angered, but just as quickly cooled down. Seeing May suddenly looking so pitiful and saying she was hungry, he softened immediately, sighed, and sat back down to continue eating.
"Seriously, after we eat, are we going or not? If yes, I’ll take you there later, everything’s been arranged."
After a pause, Victor couldn’t help but look up and ask May.
May thought for a moment and carefully asked Victor, "Is it far?"
If it was too far, would they not be back by evening? She dared not let Vincent know she spent so much time with Victor.
Victor immediately beamed and said to May, "Not far, just an hour’s drive. It’s all set up over there, you can do it as soon as you arrive, it only takes about ten minutes to get the results."
"Then... how’s the technology over there?" May used her chopsticks to poke at the rice in her bowl while hesitating.
"It’s honestly the most advanced technology in the world. That hospital was invested in by my father, all the equipment is imported from Germany, and the staff are hired from abroad."
"Is your father that capable?" May looked at Victor suspiciously, unable to resist asking again.
To invest in such a large-scale hospital, one must be quite wealthy, right? She didn’t expect Victor to come from such an impressive background.
Victor coughed awkwardly and finally asked May, "Just tell me if you’re going. If yes, I’ll take you right away; if not, forget it."
"Let’s go then." May thought carefully and decided that going was the best plan. Now that she finally got a chance to get out, she needed to clear things up about the child.
"Alright, hurry and eat. Once we’re done, I’ll take you there."
Seeing May nod, Victor was quite excited, picked up his phone on the table, and went to make a call, probably to confirm the schedule there.
Soon, he returned with his phone, and May, having eaten enough, stood up and said to him, "Shall we go now?"
"Mm, everything’s confirmed, we can do it as soon as we get there."
Victor extended his hand to May, indicating she should leave with him. May glanced at it but didn’t place her hand in his.
The feelings between men and women sometimes could ignite into a wildfire with just an inadvertent handshake or an exchange of glances.
She didn’t know what Victor thought of her, but she couldn’t play romantic games with him, even though she was clearly using him now.
In the car, May yawned sleepily, Victor saw it and suggested, "Why don’t you take a nap? I’ll wake you when we get there."
May nodded, extremely sleepy. She hugged herself and leaned against the seat to sleep. Last night, she was busy being angry with Vincent and hadn’t slept, and on top of that, being pregnant made her extra sleepy. The moment she closed her eyes, she fell into a deep sleep.
Victor saw her sleeping soundly, worried she might catch a cold, so he drove with one hand and took off his jacket with the other to drape over her.
The car drove for over an hour and finally reached Drexel Private Hospital in Beldon City.
Victor parked the car in the hospital’s underground garage, intending to wake May, but when he looked at her, he suddenly found himself mesmerized by her delicate sleeping face.
He didn’t find her pretty before, not even when he first met her. She seemed a bit naive and immature then, just a young girl. According to Victor, she was just a chick you couldn’t even get your fingers into.
