Chapter 164: Chapter 164: I Just Want to Protect You

Just sitting dryly at the dining table waiting for him to return, for nearly two hours, Vincent finally pushed the door open and came in. The dishes on the table had gone cold and hot, hot and cold, cycling twice already, but May stubbornly had not touched a single bite.

Vincent did not know that May had called him; Logan never told him that May was waiting at the dining table for him with a temper, stubbornly waiting for him to come home to eat, so he returned only after having dinner at the Vance Residence.

The servant responsible for taking care of May saw Vincent come in and hurriedly went to greet him joyfully, saying, "Master Vincent, you’ve finally come back. The young mistress insisted on waiting for you to come home to eat. The food has been reheated twice now."

Vincent was shocked upon hearing this, glanced at May in the dining room, and saw her sitting stubbornly on the chair, back straight, gaze fixed solely on the dishes on the table, refusing to turn her head to look at him.

A trace of heartache flashed in his heart, but at the same time, he was somewhat irritable and chided the servant, "Why didn’t you notify me when the mistress was upset?"

The servant said aggrievedly, "The young mistress personally called you. It was Master Logan who answered and promised to pass the message to you, so we just... just..."

Vincent heard this and quickly took out his phone for a look. Sure enough, he saw a call from May two hours ago, and it displayed that the call had been connected, with a duration of three minutes.

He sighed regretfully and quickly turned back to the dining room, pulled out a chair to sit next to May, and looked at the table of untouched dishes, trying to coax her gently: "Why are you upset and not eating again? If you go hungry, what about the baby?"

May waited for Vincent for two hours, only she knew how agonizing these two hours were.

Was she not hungry? But she couldn’t eat. Just thinking about Vincent’s attitude toward her these past few days, her heart felt unbearably painful.

"You care about the baby? You care about the baby, yet you come back so late!" May’s nose tingled, and she glared at Vincent resentfully. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

Vincent didn’t want to deepen the misunderstanding between them, so he hurried to explain, "I didn’t know you called me. Logan didn’t tell me you’d be waiting at home."

May lifted her eyes, glancing sideways at Vincent with a cold voice, questioning him, "Is that an excuse? You don’t come home for dinner, so you can’t even make a phone call?"

It’s not that she was deliberately being picky; if Vincent had a place for her in his heart, even if Logan deliberately hid it, wouldn’t he know to call and inform her when he was eating at Vance Residence?

Clearly, he was guilty and dared not say anything!

Vincent sighed helplessly, trying to calmly and peacefully explain to her, "You’re right; it’s my fault. I’ll make amends for you, okay? Next time I eat outside, I’ll surely call you beforehand, alright?"

After he finished speaking, he signaled the servant to serve May a fresh bowl of hot rice. The servant efficiently brought the heated rice over, and Vincent personally held the bowl, feeding her: "It’s all my fault for your bad mood, but don’t always be angry. If you upset your stomach, what about our baby? You have to eat; if you don’t eat, the baby’s nutrition might be lacking, right?"

His constant mentions of the baby made May feel irritated and aggrieved, she couldn’t help but turn and glare at him: "Is the baby all you care about? Vincent, if you love children so much, you can find another woman to give birth for you. There’s no need to focus solely on me."

Vincent, also angered by May, angrily threw the bowl onto the table, his tone and actions intensified: "May, are you deliberately trying to cause trouble for me?"

He had humbled himself this much, what did she want? Did she insist he kneel to her?

Vincent had never shown such a big temper in front of May; he had, but his tone had never been so severe, so his words immediately scared the nearby servants into not daring to breathe loudly.

"Yes, I’m deliberately causing you trouble, so what?" May’s anger flared suddenly, she simply stood up from the chair in a fit of pique, but because she had sat for too long and hadn’t eaten a bite, when she stood up, she felt dizzy and nearly fell.

Vincent saw her like this and quickly reached out to support her, but before his hand reached, May slapped it away.

May steadied herself a little by holding onto the table and then gritted her teeth to question Vincent: "Do you dare tell me what you did at Vance Residence?"

Vincent’s face looked unpleasant for a moment, lying: "What could I possibly do? Of course, I was questioning Grandpa about last night’s incident."

"And the result? You promised to give me a satisfactory result; did you get it?" May coldly smiled and lifted her head, her sharp gaze firmly fixed on Vincent’s face, questioning him.

Vincent’s eyes clearly dodged, making May’s heart go cold.

"You know, Grandpa has always been a strong-willed person; if I ask, he wouldn’t easily admit it."

"Right, of course, he wouldn’t easily admit it, but if there was evidence, it would be different." May’s mouth curled into a resolute cold smile, deliberately pressing Vincent: "Before leaving, you stated that as long as the evidence was put in front of you, you’d help me find media to expose the incident, right?"

Vincent raised his head in surprise to look at May, and seeing her unyielding eyes, he knew May certainly had contingency plans, so she dared to push him like this.

"May, listen to me..."

Vincent sighed slightly, forced to want to explain his difficulties to May, but before he could finish, May interrupted.

"Vincent, don’t talk nonsense with me. I’m just asking, about last night’s incident, can you help me stand firm?"

"May, listen to my explanation, last night, even though Grandpa brought someone to attack Zenith Villa, and you have recorded the video, if it were really exposed, it would not benefit you in any way, besides, you know old man’s methods, truly push him, he’s capable of doing anything."

"So, is this why you had Aunt Miller steal my phone and camera, gave her money, and let her leave suddenly with the reputation of theft?"

May really didn’t want to expose Vincent’s schemes, but his words lacked any convincing power. For her good? If it were for her good, why not listen to her opinion? Just because he can’t beat them, does she have to hide in a corner and let herself be bullied forever? Is this his promise to her?

Vincent, having his plot exposed by May, looked very awkward: "Don’t jump to conclusions. Aunt Miller left on her own because of a serious family matter."
