Young Master Vance Has An Enchanting Wife!-Chapter 162: You Want Me to Help You Deal With Your Husband?
"Uh, well, I was just calling to ask, what happened to those injured brothers of yours last night?" May Morgan cautiously asked Victor Grant.
Victor Grant wasn’t stupid; this woman usually acted all high and mighty. If it wasn’t something major, why would she suddenly ask about his brothers’ injuries?
"They’re doing okay, I guess. A few got gunshot wounds and are in the hospital now. The others just have minor injuries. But I heard Arthur Vance’s men are worse off. Take that Butler Lawson for instance; he’s still lying in intensive care."
May was actually trying to ask about Butler Lawson’s whereabouts, and Victor just mentioned it himself. She quickly took the opportunity to ask further, "Is that so? What’s the chance of him surviving?"
Victor laughed upon hearing this, "What, are you afraid that if he dies, Arthur Vance will come after you? Don’t worry, don’t you have the video recording from Butler Lawson? Arthur Vance won’t dare to openly do anything to you for the sake of the bigger picture."
"The video I had was stolen this morning; my phone, camera, everything was taken." May quickly took the chance to complain to Victor.
Victor paused, somewhat incredulous as he questioned May, "Are you serious? You lost something that important? Keeping it in your hands, even if you don’t release it, at least makes Arthur Vance wary of you. Wouldn’t that keep him from messing with you again? What next? Could it be that someone around you stole it?"
Victor’s words clearly hinted to May that the only person who could have stolen it right under her nose could be her partner.
May, of course, picked up on his hint, but she was someone who knew right from wrong. Although she was angry with Vincent’s actions, it hadn’t come to the point of betraying her husband.
"Maybe a servant in the house took advantage of the chaos and stole it. When I looked this morning, everything in the drawer was gone, including some money and jewelry."
"Oh, so it was the servant who stole it. You should ask your husband to handle it; why come to me?" Victor sarcastically snorted.
May gave a dry laugh and deliberately asked him, "Aren’t I just concerned about you? You said you hit so many of Arthur Vance’s people last night to help me, and Arthur Vance is known for his strong desire for revenge. Won’t he give you a hard time?"
Victor nonchalantly snorted, "Afraid of that old guy? First, I have no business dealings with him, and second, I’m not lacking in strength compared to him. If he’s daring enough to go up against me, I’ll be fierce in return."
"You’re quite the man. I’ve underestimated you before," May complimented him at the right moment.
Victor smiled, unperturbed, and unceremoniously exposed her, "Come on, as if I don’t know what you’re thinking? Honestly, what do you want from me? We’re all pressed for time, just say it directly."
"Alright, I want to ask you for a favor. If you help me, I’ll pay you."
Hearing there’s money to be made, Victor immediately perked up, "Go on."
"It’s like this, my husband is also very angry about what happened last night, but you know, his crisis within Vance Clan is heavy, and Arthur Vance still holds the power. Fighting alone against him is wearing him down, so he hopes you can help to overthrow Arthur Vance. Of course, he’ll generously reward you afterward."
"Your husband wants my help and has you call me?" Victor questioned May with a face full of doubt, "Are you lying to me? Everyone knows what kind of person your husband is. I slept in your living room last night, and you saw how he looked at me in the morning, as if I slept with you, wanting to devour me whole. Are you joking? Vincent, someone who values his dignity so much, really wants to work with me, and he’d use you to call me?"
Victor has been around long enough; he’s not one to be tricked by a few words. May’s lie couldn’t withstand any scrutiny and was easily seen through.
After her lie was exposed, May was extremely embarrassed and didn’t know how to explain it properly. Vincent was good in every way, except his reputation as a jealous husband was too widespread, which is why Victor didn’t believe her nonsense in the first place.
"Well, actually, it’s me who wants to ask you for help!" May sighed helplessly and had no choice but to confess.
Victor snorted, replying indifferent and lukewarm, "You want me to do something, fine; as I said, if the money’s in place, everything’s negotiable."
Money, May didn’t have. The only thing she had now was Vincent’s card, but if Vincent knew she spent his money to get Victor’s help against him, he would freeze all her expenses without hesitation.
"I definitely have money. You took my diamond last night, did I frown? I’m telling you, even if I don’t have cash, I have jewelry, plenty of it."
To get Victor on board, May could only put on a facade of wealth.
Victor considered it briefly but didn’t refuse her, "So, tell me, what do you want my help with?"
"Help me... deal with my husband!"
"What? Did I hear you right? Are you and your husband falling out? Oh my, sister, if that’s the case, why hang on with him? Just come with me; I’ll take care of you!"
Listening to his improper words, May felt her temples throbbing with anger and couldn’t help but snort coldly, "Sure, but I’m not an easy person. When I’m in a bad mood, I like to beat people, particularly enjoy breaking people’s fingers. Wanna count if you have more fingers for me to break?"
Victor instantly recalled the scene of May snapping Butler Lawson’s fingers and quickly fell silent, not daring to mess with May again.
This woman was beautiful, but a tough lady like that, Victor truly didn’t want to challenge her lightly.
Seeing Victor finally quiet down, May turned serious and told him, "Listen to me, I’m asking for your help because I want you to be a witness for me. My husband just promised me that once I find that video, he will support me in releasing it, but I’m afraid he won’t keep his word, which is why I need your help."
"Well, helping is possible, but I’m afraid your husband might have issues with you," Victor replied, analyzing the situation with May again, "Actually, if it was your husband who had someone steal that video, maybe he has his reasons; you don’t necessarily have to push him to this point, you know?"
"You wouldn’t understand..." May sighed helplessly, feeling a pang of bitterness in her heart.
Is it the effect of releasing the video that she wants? No, she wants Vincent’s honesty. If he really had his difficulties, why wouldn’t he be upfront with her? It’s clearly because he’s afraid, afraid of angering Arthur Vance, making his position within the Vance Clan even more precarious.
She’s not necessarily insisting on releasing the video. She just wants Vincent to show an attitude.
