Chapter 160: Chapter 160: I Regret Marrying You

Vincent suddenly remembered the amulet he wore around his neck. He quickly took it off and put it far away.

"I’m sorry. I forgot that you can’t stand this smell." After walking into the bathroom, Vincent crouched down to gently pat May’s back to make her feel more comfortable vomiting.

May’s morning sickness wasn’t severe, and she could tolerate many strange smells, but the fragrance of Fragrant Bone Wood made her vomit uncontrollably. Watching May hold the toilet and keep vomiting, Vincent couldn’t help but recall Jacob’s words.

Thinking of the Dragon Insect inside May, Vincent hesitated to lift his hand from May’s back, but remembering his attachment to her, he eventually decided to put his hand back.

There was surely fear, but he had to find a way to overcome it because the woman beside him was the one he loved dearly.

After May vomited for a while, she finally felt better. While Vincent handed her a wet wipe to clean her mouth, he asked her deliberately, "Is it only when you smell the Fragrant Bone Wood that you can’t stand it?"

As May wiped the corners of her mouth, looking pale, she replied to Vincent, "I don’t know why, I don’t have much reaction to other smells, but this wood’s fragrance makes my head swell and feel like vomiting intensely when I smell it."

Supportively helping May lie down on the bed, Vincent asked nonchalantly, "Do you know why? Is it only the fragrance of this wood you can’t stand?"

Hearing his underlying meaning, May gave him a suspicious look and asked back, "How should I know why? Isn’t it a usual symptom during pregnancy? What do you mean?"

Vincent noticed May seemed a bit anxious, so he swiftly changed the subject, "It’s nothing, I just care about you. If you don’t like this wood’s scent, I’ll throw it far away in the future."

Turning her head to look at his neck, May realized it was empty and curiously asked, "Why are you wearing my dad’s amulet?"

Vincent knew May hadn’t told him about the Dragon Insect for her own difficult reasons, so he didn’t plan to uncover it, instead, he purposely said, "I found this wood quite unique, so I wore it. If you don’t like it, I won’t wear it anymore."

Embarrassed, May said to Vincent, "It’s not about not liking it, just can’t stand the smell. But you better keep that thing. My grandma said the Fragrant Bone Wood is the nemesis of Poisonous Insects, specifically used to dispel them. If you go to Crestwood again, it might be good for protection."

Vincent was unexpectedly touched by May’s consideration for him. A wave of warmth ran through his heart as he tenderly hugged the woman before him, and when he kissed her forehead again, his heart was filled with nothing but love and tenderness for her.

"I’ll listen to you. I’ll keep it, and use it when I visit Crestwood." Vincent smiled and said to May.

He believed he would visit Crestwood again soon, because once he was determined to help May remove the Dragon Insect, he had long disregarded life and death.

As long as there was a glimmer of hope, he would never give up.

After coming out of the bathroom, Vincent was worried that May would get hungry after vomiting too much. So, he discussed with her, "Should I ask the downstairs kitchen to make some porridge and send it up for you?"

May glanced up at him but stubbornly shook her head, lying listlessly on the bed, unwilling to move. "Not hungry. Who eats right after vomiting? Do you really take me for a pig?"

Vincent found her particularly adorable this way. He leaned forward, touching her forehead and teasing her, "I’m just trying to fatten you up. Otherwise, what if the baby is born malnourished?"

Hearing this, May turned a complex gaze on Vincent, which gave him a strange feeling.

"Do you really care about the baby in my belly?" she questioned him word by word.

Vincent was taken aback by her question, then immediately smiled and kissed her on the forehead, "Of course, I care about the baby. But I care more about you."

May put up her hand to block his approaching face, frowning tightly, making one’s heart ache.

"If one day you had to choose between me and the baby, who would you choose?"

Vincent found her question strange, as she wasn’t someone who was sentimental, and would never joke about the baby’s life. But suddenly asking this, could it be that she sensed something?

Vincent weighed the situation slightly in his mind and ultimately didn’t dare to bring up the Dragon Insect issue with May. Whether she knew about it or not, he couldn’t let her know that he was aware of her being affected by the Dragon Insect.

Although couples should be honest with each other, if May intentionally kept it a secret, as her husband, he could only protect her with the same secret, pretending to be in the dark.

"I would definitely choose you, but I won’t let such a thing happen. Trust me."

Vincent tried to pull a reassuring smile from his lips and said to May truthfully.

May’s lips also curled into a smile, but it turned out to be a cold one, entirely different from Vincent’s. She placed her hand on Vincent’s incredibly handsome face, suddenly saying with emotion, "Sometimes, I feel that marrying you was my gain."

Vincent expressionlessly looked at her, saying nothing, waiting for her to continue. Sure enough, May paused and then said, "But sometimes, I regret it."

Vincent’s voice grew cold, "Why do you regret it?"

"Because I feel your heart is so deep, so deep that I can’t see through it. I often reminisce about being with Adam. Although it wasn’t as impressive as being with you, I didn’t have to guess what he was thinking, or whether he was doing something I dislike behind my back. But you’re different..."

"I’m different? How am I different? What have I done behind your back? After being with you, I don’t smoke, don’t drink, and try to reduce social engagements. What more are you dissatisfied with?"

Adam was always a knot in Vincent’s heart, one he could never move past in his life. After all, that was May’s first love, a relationship he could never replace. So when May mentioned Adam again, even though Vincent knew it was because she was angry about him secretly stealing her things, he still couldn’t fully control his emotions.

Vincent’s voice gradually intensified. To avoid letting his anger affect May, he quickly stood up from the bed, trying to distance himself from her.

He simply didn’t want his anger to spill over onto May, but in her eyes, it seemed more like his disdain for her.

In fact, from the moment she was vomiting in the bathroom, when his hand rested on her shoulder and then withdrew, she had already sensed it keenly.
