Young Master Vance Has An Enchanting Wife!-Chapter 149: Jacob Jennings Arrives
When the fragrance permeated among the Poisonous Insects, they acted as if they had ingested some kind of stimulant, suddenly starting to bite fiercely. Because the insects were particularly large, their biting produced unbearable shrieks, making the listener’s skin crawl.
Vincent Vance sensed something was wrong and hurriedly shouted to everyone, "Stay focused and stick close to me, let’s get out of here quickly."
Everyone, upon hearing this, snapped out of their daze. They quickly gathered around Vincent, waiting for him to open the wooden door.
However, before Vincent could open the latch, they heard a woman’s terrified scream from behind. The farmer’s wife was trembling all over, pointing at a looming, darkening monster behind them, stuttering, "W-what is that?"
Upon hearing her, everyone quickly turned to look in the direction she was pointing. Indeed, they saw a pitch-black monster growing larger.
Because the moonlight was bright, Vincent clearly saw that it was not a monster, but remnants of Poisonous Insects from the fight, forming together gradually into something that resembled a monster.
However, this was Vincent’s first time seeing such a thing, and his fear intensified. He took a deep breath, quickly pushed open the courtyard’s wooden door, and shouted to everyone, "Get in the car, quickly!" while the creature hadn’t attacked them yet.
Everyone snapped back to reality and followed Vincent in a hurry, running. One of Vincent’s subordinates, with weak legs, ran slower and stumbled while crossing a high threshold, falling to the ground. By the time he realized, the creature had surrounded him.
"Help!" The man screamed in horror as the monstrous being was about to swallow him whole.
Vincent didn’t want to abandon his life, so he quickly turned back. He thought that with the Fragrant Bone Wood in his hand, the monster might hesitate a little, but when he returned, the monster showed no sign of backing off.
The monster swiftly engulfed the man’s body, constantly changing shape as it advanced toward Vincent.
Vincent watched in shock as his subordinate was devoured in mere seconds, reduced to a skeleton. He inhaled sharply, and without delay, turned and retreated to the vehicle.
Outside, there were also many Poisonous Insects. As they didn’t have Fragrant Bone Wood for protection, everyone dared not stray too far from Vincent and could only follow his lead to escape. Seeing Vincent finally turn, they breathed a sigh of relief and rushed towards the nearby car.
Once they got in the car, the speed of the Poisonous Insects couldn’t compare to that of a vehicle. As long as they were in the car, they would be saved.
However, this was a premeditated massacre; how could the enemy let them escape so easily?
Just when Vincent and the others managed to retreat to the car and were about to open the door, they were shocked to find that both of their vehicles had deflated tires due to the insects’ bites, and they couldn’t even open the car doors.
"What now? The car won’t start!" Everyone looked at Vincent in despair and asked.
At this point, what could Vincent do? Everything he experienced that night was completely unprecedented. Even though he was usually strategic in business, faced with these supernatural events, all he could do was sigh and resign to fate.
Seeing the pitch-black monster silently approaching them, Vincent took a deep breath and shouted to everyone, "Run, run as far as you can!"
Everyone hesitantly glanced at Vincent, unsure of what to do. Run? Where to? The Poisonous Insects surrounded them; if they managed to escape this one, what about the others? Wouldn’t they still be doomed?
But, if they didn’t run, the skeletal remains at the door would be their fate next.
"Run, what are you all hesitating about?" Seeing everyone frozen, Vincent quickly gripped the Fragrant Bone Wood and began to run back the way they came.
Everyone, seeing this, had no other choice and rushed after him onto the mountain path.
However, after Vincent had only run a few steps, he suddenly widened his eyes in terror, unable to take another step forward.
In front of him, five meters away, another monster formed by various Poisonous Insects appeared, blocking their escape.
Just as Vincent was at a loss, a gunshot echoed from the sky, followed by a strong fragrance of Fragrant Bone Wood spreading through the air. The monstrous insect in front suddenly disintegrated as if it had been shot, scattering into pieces.
"Young Master, get in the car quickly!" As the Poisonous Insects rapidly scattered, Jacob Jennings suddenly appeared before them, driving a car. He quickly braked, stopped in front of Vincent, and opened the car door, motioning for them to get in quickly.
Seeing their savior had arrived, everyone squeezed into the back seat of Jacob’s car.
After everyone got in the car, Jacob didn’t immediately drive away. Instead, he held a shotgun in his hand, calmly aiming at the approaching Poisonous Insects, and fired. The bullet didn’t penetrate the monster as other shotgun bullets did, but exploded in mid-air near the monster. Immediately, a thick cloud of Fragrant Bone Wood powder spread into the air. Indeed, Fragrant Bone Wood was the nemesis of the Poisonous Insects. As the powder settled on the monster, the insects scattered and hid in the bushes.
This place was not safe for long. After dealing with two monsters, Jacob quickly got back in the car and drove away at speed.
Once the car was far enough, Vincent glanced back. Seeing no more insects in sight, he finally relaxed.
He turned to the cluster of people squeezed in the back and apologetically asked, "Are you all okay?"
Except for the one eaten by the Poisonous Insects, the rest were fine. They glanced around at each other, then eventually nodded at Vincent, saying, "We’re fine, all good."
It was only then that Vincent suddenly realized Melanie Morgan was nowhere to be found.
He paused in realization and hurriedly asked everyone, "Did anyone see Melanie?"
Earlier, everyone was focused solely on escape, their eyes fixed on the terrifying Poisonous Insects, not really paying attention to their companions. Again, they looked around at each other and then shook their heads, "No."
The farmer’s wife thought for a moment, then uncertainly told Vincent, "Before we left, she was still there. She was clinging to my arm out of fear. But after we exited, when that monster appeared, she seemed to vanish. I didn’t notice at the time; I was only thinking about how to escape and didn’t care for that woman."
