Young Master Vance Has An Enchanting Wife!-Chapter 128: Revisiting Crestwood
May gave him a little shove, signaling him to leave: "I need a bath now. Go out, and I’ll call you when I’m done."
Vincent, possibly eager to check a message, didn’t cling to her like before. Instead, he glanced at May with some hesitation and asked cautiously, "Are you really okay by yourself?"
May nodded confidently and gave him another push: "Get out! It’s only a problem if you stay, you big pervert!"
After May pushed Vincent out of the bathroom, he smiled speechlessly. Once May closed the bathroom door, he eagerly went to the bed to grab his phone and check it.
As he turned around, May quietly opened the bathroom door a crack to eavesdrop on the situation outside.
The bathroom wasn’t far from the bedroom; if the door was open, she could clearly hear everything Vincent was saying. She heard Vincent calling Jacob Jennings, asking, "Is this image accurate? If it is, send it to Director Lawson and have them check it out to see if they can find this person."
Director Lawson? Isn’t that the chief of police in Crestwood? Does this mean the image received on Vincent’s phone is indeed of the person who kidnapped her that day?
But how did he find out about this person suddenly? Since he wanted Jacob to send the image to Director Lawson, it couldn’t be that Director Lawson found this person and sent it to him. Could it be that Melanie confessed?
Thinking of this, May instinctively couldn’t sit still. Just as she was about to open the door to find Vincent and ask for an explanation, Vincent suddenly left with his phone.
Seeing Vincent’s hurriedly departing figure, May guessed he was likely going to find Jacob or Melanie. After hesitating for a moment, May opened the bathroom door and stepped out.
She grabbed a coat to wrap around herself and turned to leave the bedroom. As soon as she stepped out, she saw the maid coming to assist her with bathing. This maid had been brought over by Vincent before he left. Seeing May suddenly open the door, the maid quickly reached out to stop her.
"Miss, why did you come out? The young master said you’re not well and must take care. Please, come back with me."
May looked at her, her eyes rolling slightly, and suddenly asked, "I need to find Jacob Jennings for something. Do you know where he is?"
The maid, suspecting nothing, honestly replied, "He seems to be in the basement. I saw him earlier, but he has things to handle there, so we can’t disturb him for now."
As expected!
Understanding, May smiled a little, and said to the maid, "I’m a bit hungry. Could you go make some porridge for me to eat? I’d like bird’s nest porridge, freshly cooked."
"Alright, alright, I’ll go make it right away, but you should go back and lie down first. The young master instructed me to take good care of you, and I wouldn’t be able to bear it if something happened to you."
May just wanted to quickly get rid of her so she could go to the basement and check things out. She deliberately turned back to the bedroom and lay down in front of the maid: "Okay, stop nagging. I’m lying down, see? Now, hurry up, I’m starving."
Hearing her repeatedly express hunger, the maid dared not delay and quickly closed the door to go make porridge. As soon as she left, May swiftly sat up from the bed and opened the door.
Afraid of using the stairs and being seen by the maid, she luckily knew of a small elevator used by the help for their errands, not far from her bedroom.
Seizing the moment with no one around, May quickly ran to the elevator and pressed the button to the basement.
To be honest, this was her first time in the Zenith Villa’s basement, so she was a bit scared of the environment.
Afraid of the dark since childhood, when the elevator doors opened, revealing the vast, dark basement, her body trembled for a moment, and she didn’t dare step out immediately.
The elevator began to beep, and May knew if she didn’t leave now, the alarm would notify the people in the basement.
Steeling herself, she stepped out from the elevator and walked along the narrow corridor for a bit. Then, suddenly, her vision opened up.
The Zenith Villa’s basement was actually very spacious, designed with two levels. Its interior design and furnishings were similar to those above.
The first level functioned like a living room, providing a place for rest. Although the lighting wasn’t as good as outside, it wasn’t too dim, though the atmosphere felt a bit oppressive. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
In the corner of the living room, there was an elevator leading to the second basement level. May looked around the first level but didn’t see any suspicious rooms or secret doors, leading her to speculate Jacob and the others might have gone to the second level.
Just as she was about to head down another level by the stairs, the once silent basement suddenly echoed with the voices of Vincent and Jacob speaking.
The voices were coming from the stairs, growing closer and sounding ready to ascend.
Frightened, May quickly hid in the dark corridor to observe what was happening.
She watched as Vincent and Jacob emerged from the second basement level and sat on the sofa to discuss things. With their backs to May, they didn’t notice her presence.
Jacob’s voice was somewhat reluctant as he spoke to Vincent: "If you insist on going back to Crestwood, I must go with you."
Vincent turned, glanced at Jacob’s firm expression, sighed, and placed a hand on his shoulder, speaking earnestly: "If both you and I went to Crestwood, who would protect May? You’ve seen the madness from the old man. Once both of us leave, even with many guards, he could still take her from Zenith Villa."
"I understand, but Crestwood is such a dangerous place, I can’t let you go alone."
Recalling the two dead bodies he saw in Crestwood, Jacob’s heart felt as heavy as if weighed by stones. Even with both of them returning, he wasn’t sure they could safely leave.
Vincent gave a bitter smile, squeezing Jacob’s shoulder tighter, conveying his firm resolve: "You should know, nothing in this world matters more to me than May. If something happens to her, I would never forgive myself."
Jacob knew well of the young master’s love for May, but love aside, risking one’s life isn’t a gamble to be taken lightly.
He lowered his head, deep in thought, and finally looked up resolutely at Vincent, saying, "If you’re determined to go, then let me take your place. You’re right, with the old man constantly watching May, her safety can’t be assured if both of us leave. If she falls into his hands again, what’s the point of going to Crestwood?"
