Chapter 121: Chapter 121: Your Husband Treats You So Well

Jacob Jennings heard there was a tracking device installed in the car, and couldn’t help but ask Vincent Vance anxiously, "Young Master, is the old man really going to do something to you and Miss May?"

Vincent couldn’t say for sure now, but ever since he had shown no regard for the old man at the Vance Residence, the old man’s gaze towards him had lost much of its familial affection and nostalgia.

After all, people are selfish. All that talk about familial gratitude and blood being thicker than water is built on the foundation of health and prosperity. Once you know your own life is coming to an end, who would think about anything else? Of course, saving oneself becomes the priority.

"I don’t know. Drive and check the car first, and we’ll see the result. And be careful on the road. If this car really has a tracking device installed by Grandpa, he might attack us at any time!"

Jacob Jennings was Vincent’s subordinate and was naturally the first to deal with dangerous tasks without complaint.

"Young Master, it’s okay. Even if I’m attacked by the old man’s people, when they see I’m the only one in the car without Miss May, they won’t do anything to me."

Vincent shook his head grimly, recalling the cold-blooded and brutal look in Arthur Vance’s eyes, and sighed softly, "Don’t underestimate the evil of human nature, especially the evil of a dying person. It’s best to be cautious."

Vincent’s words touched Jacob, but after so many years, master and servant didn’t need flowery language to express themselves; a word or a smile was enough to understand each other’s thoughts deeply.

After Jacob drove away, Vincent took May Morgan into Jacob’s car and began to drive back. May had overheard what Vincent said to Jacob, and so she was full of doubt at this moment.

"You mentioned the evil of a dying person. Who is this dying person? Is it... your grandfather?" May connected the dots to Arthur Vance. After all, in this matter, Arthur was more involved than even Logan Vance. If he didn’t have ulterior motives, it would be hard to explain.

Vincent turned to look at May, knowing there was no need to hide anymore, and nodded cautiously, answering, "Yes, I had Grandpa’s private doctor kidnapped, and he told me Grandpa has cancer, at most, a year left to live. So, I think he’s using curing my uncle as an excuse, but his real intention is to use our child’s blood to treat his illness."

Knowing Vincent wasn’t going to sacrifice her to Arthur, May was touched and gave him a grateful look, "Thank you for not abandoning both of us." 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

Vincent’s fingers twitched slightly, a light of helplessness flickering in his eyes. He never thought of abandoning May, but the child...

The more he thought about it, the sadder and more conflicted he felt. The child was important, but if May was really infected by some curse, they would have to find a way to abort the child.

"May, are you really willing to have this child for me?" Vincent suppressed the pain in his heart and asked May softly.

May thought he was doubting her feelings for him and smiled, explaining, "Of course, I’ve never despised your child. I know you’re good to me, and you’re willing to give up the Vance family’s power for me. If I remain indifferent to you, don’t you think that would be unfair to you?"

"But if the child..."

The words about the child having an issue and possibly needing to be aborted were stuck in Vincent’s throat, unable to come out.

He wanted the child too. When he found out May was pregnant, he felt like he’d gone mad with happiness. That day, he almost didn’t sleep all night, imagining what it would be like to be a father. So, to personally end his child’s life was something he couldn’t bear, making him feel utterly powerless.

"What’s wrong with the child? Don’t you like children?" May, fearing that Vincent didn’t like kids, quickly looked at him nervously and asked.

Vincent turned and saw May’s cautious yet hopeful eyes, which pierced his heart. Never in his life had he felt such pain and conflict.

"No, I love children, especially the one you’re giving me!" Vincent dared not tell May the truth and quickly forced a smile, reaching out to pinch her cheek gently.

May, following his gesture, couldn’t help but smile too, touching her belly, "Actually, when I first found out I was pregnant, I felt sad and awkward. But after thinking it over, I came to terms with it. Since the child came, it means we’re fated, and no matter what, I need to protect him."

"Yes, the child belongs to both of us, and as his parents, we have a responsibility to protect him," Vincent sighed silently, reluctantly agreeing with May.

In her current state, she hoped that when she questioned Melanie Morgan later, Melanie would tell her outright that all she admitted to earlier was just nonsense, that May was perfectly fine, with no issues at all.

Halfway, they passed a maternity and baby store, and May suddenly had an urge to go in. After all, she was unprepared, not even having had a chance to take folic acid yet.

Vincent had no objections. If May wanted to shop, he’d accompany her, but he made it clear that they couldn’t stay long as it was still dangerous outside, and no one knew what would happen next.

Once they entered the store, a sales assistant warmly approached and asked, "What would you like to buy?"

It was May’s first time in such a store, and she was curious about many things. However, many maternity items were private, so she was hesitant to ask in front of Vincent. She leaned toward Vincent and whispered, "Um, can you sit over there for a while? I’ll find you after I buy what I need."

Vincent saw that the store had only one entrance and exit and nodded reassuringly before turning to sit on a bench near the door, "Okay, hurry up; it’s getting late."

"I know!" May, who hadn’t shopped in a while, gleefully sent Vincent off and followed the sales assistant to the shelves. Her lively actions were reminiscent of before, with no hint of tranquility, making Vincent’s temples throb as he feared she would fall and hurt the child.

"Could you please be more careful? If I see you jumping again, no more shopping — back home!" Vincent intentionally put on a stern face to warn May, scaring her into quickly putting her lifted foot back down.

"Your husband is so good to you!" The sales assistant turned and looked at Vincent, who was sitting in the rest area but kept his eyes on May, and spoke with envy.
