Young Master Vance Has An Enchanting Wife!-Chapter 114: There’s Something Wrong with the Coffee
Jacob Jennings was Vincent Vance’s confidant; every word he said would be relayed to Vincent. May Morgan understood this deeply, so she was annoyed after a few words and didn’t want to listen anymore.
Jacob saw her get up and lie down on the bed and felt it wasn’t right to stay any longer, so he said something and then retreated to the door to stand guard.
He just reached the door, considering where he might smoke a cigarette, when he suddenly noticed a very familiar figure in the corner of the corridor.
Although this figure was dressed in ordinary servant clothes and revealed no anomalies from behind, her gestures immediately made Jacob think of one person, Melanie Morgan!
He stared at the fleeting figure for a moment, ultimately unable to suppress his curiosity and hurriedly chased after her.
The figure, looking just like Melanie Morgan, took the servant elevator from the second floor down to the first, turned around, and went into the kitchen.
Jacob quickly followed her to the kitchen door but didn’t go inside; instead, he chose to eavesdrop at the entrance.
That figure was indeed Melanie Morgan because as soon as she spoke, Jacob confirmed it.
He heard Melanie ask the servant brewing coffee beside her: "What will the young master drink later?"
The servant responded quickly, saying, "The young master said he wouldn’t drink anything, so we haven’t prepared anything."
Upon hearing this, Melanie hastily replied, "The young master doesn’t drink because his taste is very picky. I know he likes a kind of freshly ground coffee, so let me prepare it in the kitchen for him, and you can take it up for him later, okay?"
Knowing Melanie’s past relationship with Vincent, the servant didn’t question her words and happily agreed to let Melanie handle it, since it wasn’t her own doing.
When the servant left the kitchen with the tea for the old master, Jacob immediately found a concealed place to hide.
Once the kitchen servants were gone, Jacob quietly emerged from hiding and chose a dark spot to observe Melanie Morgan’s actions in the kitchen.
After Melanie ground the coffee beans using the coffee machine, during the brewing process, she covertly took out a small bottle when nobody was around and discreetly sprinkled a little of the brown powder inside.
Once finished, she looked around guiltily to make sure nobody was there before confidently carrying the coffee out of the kitchen.
The servant going up to deliver the tea had just come downstairs, so she handed the coffee with the powder to that servant and carefully instructed her: "This coffee is what the young master likes; make sure not to give it to the wrong person."
"Got it." The servant took the coffee from her hand without suspicion and turned around to deliver it upstairs.
Jacob hid in the dark, clearly seeing Melanie’s triumphant, cold smile as she glanced at the servant delivering the coffee.
No doubt, whatever Melanie put in for Vincent was nothing good.
Jacob dared not let the servant take it to the old master’s room for Vincent to drink, so he hurriedly went upstairs to the old master’s door to grab the coffee from the servant.
"Mr. Jennings, what are you doing?" The servant was surprised, seeing the coffee taken away by Jacob, and hurriedly asked.
Jacob calmly explained to the servant, "I happen to need to see the old master too, so give me the coffee, I’ll take it in."
The servant didn’t think much of it and quickly nodded in agreement, saying, "Alright, thank you."
Jacob, holding the tray, stood at the old master’s door, and after watching the servant leave, intended to go to the side to dispose of the poisoned coffee.
But just as he turned, he saw Maxwell Vance rushing toward him, quickly taking the coffee from his hand.
"Great, let me borrow your coffee for a moment." Maxwell snatched the coffee from Jacob’s hand and turned to leave.
Jacob couldn’t let her take the coffee away; what if it was lethal poison? It’s known that Melanie would stop at nothing now.
"Miss, this coffee is for the young master." Jacob didn’t dare tell Maxwell the truth, so he anxiously chased after to retrieve the coffee while explaining to her.
Maxwell turned back, glancing at him disdainfully, and retorted, "It’s just a cup of coffee. What’s the fuss? Just get someone to brew another cup for my brother!"
In the course of speaking with Jacob, she had already carried the coffee into Adam Owens’ room. Since Adam was an outsider, the old master had temporarily provided him with a room on this floor for rest. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
Jacob extended his arms to grab the coffee from Maxwell, but she acted even quicker, opening Adam’s room door and walking in with the coffee.
"Miss!" Jacob had only shouted "Miss" when Maxwell had already closed the door behind her, leaving him outside.
Jacob stared at the tightly closed door, recalling Melanie’s triumphant smile and hurriedly began knocking on the door.
Clearly, the coffee had issues. Even if Vincent didn’t drink it, neither should Adam!?
Moreover, the coffee was handed off by him; should Adam have issues from drinking it, he wouldn’t be able to clear his name.
Inside, Maxwell heard Jacob knocking loudly on the door and angrily came over, yanking the door open and yelled at Jacob, "Are you crazy? Over a cup of coffee? Is it really necessary?"
"No, Miss, I need this coffee!" Jacob anxiously pushed Maxwell out of the doorway and turned to go in.
But once inside, he was stunned to see Adam had already finished drinking the coffee while focused on his computer.
Finished drinking? This is...
Jacob felt a halt in his heart, awkwardly looking at Adam. Adam noticed Jacob staring at him and asked curiously, "What’s up, Jacob? Is there something wrong?"
Jacob took a deep breath and suddenly wore a smile and said, "Nothing, Adam, please carry on."
Since Adam had already drunk the coffee, stopping him was pointless. Jacob only hoped Adam would be fine after consuming it, otherwise, clearing his name would be impossible.
Given it was something Melanie added, how could there possibly be no consequences?
Just as Jacob wore a helpless smile, deciding to leave Adam’s room, Adam suddenly mumbled to Maxwell behind him: "Maxwell, I—I’m feeling a bit unwell."
Jacob, hearing this, turned pale, quickly turned around to check Adam’s situation with Maxwell, only to find that Adam’s previously fine complexion was now flushed and his breathing rapid.
