Young Master Vance Has An Enchanting Wife!-Chapter 101: What If the Baby Is a Monster
This is not the most coincidental part yet. Later, Mason Morgan sought out someone from a nearby village to divine her fate, and the result was even more tragic; halfway through the divination, the person bled from seven orifices and died on the spot.
After that, the villagers said May Morgan was a chosen one, someone with a destiny too strong — whoever got close would die. Mason Morgan might have been scared; he left home within a few years. May Morgan’s grandmother and mother, to avoid causing trouble to everyone, deliberately moved to live at the foot of the mountain, far from the crowd.
A chosen one?
Upon hearing these four words, Vincent Vance couldn’t help but frown, his heart even more conflicted. What does it mean to be a chosen one? He didn’t actually know, yet from the literal meaning, he could roughly guess; May Morgan’s identity was indeed not simple.
From the very beginning with the Jade Pendant to the later hauntings by ghostly figures in the dark, to the Red Dragon in the sky and the tragic death of the special forces soldier; all these suggest that there is an enormous secret hidden within May Morgan.
In reality, Vincent Vance didn’t know much about May Morgan’s secret; he only wished for her to become ordinary, so she could marry him, bear children, and grow old together.
But how could he make this wish come true?
Vincent Vance thought long and hard, finally sorting out some leads. At present, he was unsure whether May Morgan was really afflicted by the Dragon Insect; if not, it would be best for everyone. Then he would simply destroy the Jade Pendant, and it would all be over.
In case she was affected by the Dragon Insect, he would spare no effort to lift the curse, believing that in all things, there is yin and yang, toxic wine has its cure; as long as he worked hard, there would surely be a solution.
However, the urgent task is first to determine if May Morgan is indeed afflicted, for the child in her belly can’t afford to wait much longer.
"Jacob Jennings, come back first; after you return, do nothing else but conduct a full investigation into Melanie Morgan’s whereabouts. Once you find her, you must bring her to me; I have questions for her."
May Morgan was kidnapped by Melanie Morgan, and only she knows whether May Morgan was inflicted with the curse while unconscious, so finding Melanie Morgan is the key.
Jacob Jennings promptly responded: "I understand, Young Master. I’ll return now. Silverwood City might be large, but there are not many places for Melanie Morgan to hide. I’m confident we can find her soon."
"How’s Director Lawson’s side? If possible, let them issue a warrant," Vincent Vance asked Jacob Jennings, somewhat anxiously.
Jacob Jennings hesitated and said to Vincent Vance: "I asked Director Lawson; he said they can’t issue a warrant yet. Melanie Morgan is only a suspect, and we can’t confirm she’s responsible. Besides, someone has already confessed. For now, we can only wait for the situation to develop, suspend the case and arrest Melanie Morgan once new evidence is found."
"Doesn’t Director Lawson have DNA from the hair? Why not summon Melanie Morgan?"
"Don’t mention it. I forgot to tell you, someone stole the evidence from Director Lawson’s team last night; all of it was taken, making the case quite challenging now."
At this point, Jacob Jennings was also dejected. Crestwood is a small county, lacking advanced equipment compared to Silverwood City, and is short on manpower. Yet those pieces of evidence pointing directly to Melanie Morgan’s guilt have all vanished.
"How could this happen?"
Vincent Vance’s face turned grim upon hearing this; without evidence, how can they apprehend Melanie Morgan?
"Did you watch the video? The police should have video surveillance. Who stole the evidence at night? Couldn’t you just check the surveillance?"
Jacob Jennings sighed helplessly, somewhat dejectedly telling him: "Don’t mention it. Of course, I watched the surveillance. Those pieces of evidence literally disappeared into thin air last night; not a single person appeared on the footage, so it couldn’t have been stolen by someone."
"Not stolen by someone?" Now, the clouds of suspicion in Vincent Vance’s mind grew heavier.
"Indeed. I basically watched the surveillance from start to finish last night but found no fault. I suspect that if it wasn’t stolen by internal personnel at the police station, it might have been done by supernatural forces."
These days in Crestwood, what Jacob Jennings has witnessed made him, who initially didn’t believe in mythical beings, develop a certain reverence for those mysterious entities.
There’s no choice; anyone who saw the tragic state of that special forces soldier would feel diffident.
The last result that Vincent Vance didn’t want to accept was the one Jacob Jennings mentioned. If it’s an inside job, it can be dealt with, as it’s caused by human actions, and losses can be stopped in time. But if other forces are involved, then...
"Forget it, you should come back first. Crestwood is indeed a wicked place; be safe on the road."
Jacob Jennings is Vincent Vance’s right-hand man, having grown up together; many times, he even regards him as a brother. Therefore, Vincent Vance particularly cares about Jacob Jennings’ safety.
Crestwood has a terrain of overlapping mountains, inherently eerie and frightening, compounded by frequent strange occurrences lately. Vincent Vance hopes that everyone around him can stay safe.
After hanging up Jacob Jennings’ call, Vincent Vance sat troubled in his study, spacing out for quite a while, only going downstairs after dinner time.
May Morgan had gotten up, was sitting downstairs waiting for him to eat, obediently not fiddling with her phone, but just mindlessly sitting on a chair in the dining room, staring at the table full of dishes.
Vincent Vance gently walked up to her, reached out to touch her little head, pulled a chair, and turned to sit beside her.
"No appetite?" Pregnant women’s appetites change, Vincent Vance understood this; seeing May Morgan continuously gazing at the table full of dishes lost in thought, he smiled and asked.
May Morgan looked up at him with a face full of concerns, then dejectedly lowered her head again: "No, I’m just not hungry. I’m always eating or sleeping, never exercising; how could I be hungry?"
Upon hearing this, Vincent Vance picked up chopsticks, helped May Morgan select a bit of food, and put it in her bowl, indicating she should eat some: "Even if you’re not hungry, you should eat something. Don’t forget, there are two people in your belly now."
May Morgan instinctively touched her belly, and thinking of her worries, couldn’t help but sigh.
"Vincent Vance, if I give birth to a monster, would you find me particularly disgusting?" This matter had been bottled up inside May Morgan for quite some time; she’s not good at hiding things. She pondered and decided to lay it out for Vincent Vance.
She didn’t want the child to be born and truly become something to have her crying her heart out.
Moreover, she just thought about it; even though a 3D ultrasound can show physical defects, it might not detect genetic defects. If the child is born looking fine but ends up like her — impervious to harm, incredibly strong — what then? Or even worse, to be a monster upon birth...
The thought alone gave her chills.
