Chapter 100: Chapter 100: She Is an Ominous Woman

"You know exactly what you’ve done!" Vincent Vance’s unforgiving gaze pierced Maxwell Vance’s face, coldly threatening her, "May Morgan is my wife; I’m the only man she’ll ever have in her life. Who else could the child inside her belong to, if not me? Maxwell, if I hear you using such vicious words to slander an unborn child again, I won’t let you off!"

After he finished speaking, Vincent gave Maxwell a hard push, grabbed his coat, and walked out of the office.

Some things had to be said upfront, even if it was to his sister. May was his everything, and the child was his bottom line; no one could defame or insult them.

Vincent quickly drove back to the villa, and the servant happened to be coming downstairs with an empty bowl of porridge.

It seemed the stubborn girl wasn’t completely unreasonable; she still knew to eat.

He let out a slight breath, feeling somewhat relieved. On his way back, he had worried that May might have been so upset by Maxwell that she would affect the baby, but it turned out he had worried unnecessarily.

It’s good that everything is okay; the child is still in its early stages, so every precaution must be taken.

Vincent gently pushed open the bedroom door and saw May sitting on the bed, hugging a pillow and zoning out. He walked right up to her, but she didn’t notice.

To avoid startling her, Vincent lightly cleared his throat. May heard the sound and snapped back to reality, glancing at him.

"Your meeting is over? How did it go?" May asked him naively, with an innocent look in her big eyes.

From her casual questioning, Vincent knew she wasn’t interested in the details, so he casually replied, "It went well; I’ve been reinstated to my former position."

"Oh, congratulations, you’re once again the President of Vance Group." May shifted slightly, tossed the pillow aside, and leaned on Vincent’s arm.

Her demeanor was filled with worry. Vincent was afraid she would stress herself into illness and promptly explained to May, "Maxwell came to see me earlier; I’ve already reprimanded her and warned her not to come to Zenith Villa to bother you without reason. Don’t be upset; she’s always been like this since childhood. If anything happens in the future, as her sister-in-law, you should scold her if you must; I’ll never favor her."

Upon hearing Vincent’s words, May felt somewhat relieved. It seemed she still held some importance in his heart; otherwise, why would he be so supportive, right?

"I really don’t want to argue with her; she keeps bringing trouble to me, and that’s fine, but cursing my unborn child is something I can’t tolerate!"

May lifted her head from Vincent’s arm, looked at his face, and earnestly told him, "The child is my life; not just cursing, but even planning anything against him is out of the question. Maxwell might be your sister, and logically, I shouldn’t be fighting with her, but when she says the baby’s chances of being born are uncertain, that’s something I cannot tolerate. Isn’t that cursing my child to die?"

Looking at May’s righteous indignation, Vincent knew she cared deeply about this child, which was why she reacted so strongly to Maxwell.

But thinking of that Dragon Insect, he felt conflicted and pained. May was fine now, but if she really fell under the curse, then this child would become her death sentence. He loved her so much; he couldn’t possibly push her into hell because of a child.

Yet, would May agree to terminate the pregnancy?

Vincent pulled May tightly into his arms and whispered to her, "May, don’t overthink it; your responsibility now is to rest at home and take care of the baby without going anywhere."

"I know, I haven’t been out anyway," May mumbled, feeling bored as she fiddled with her fingers, recalling the phone he had thrown on the ground in the morning and grumbled with resentment, "You smashed my phone to bits; what else can I do? I’ll just stay at home like an idiot, watching TV every day."

Vincent was amused by her pouting words. He gently laid May back onto the head of the bed and then got up to go outside. Shortly afterward, he came back with a new phone in hand.

"Don’t worry; I’m not a dictator. Would I really imprison you mentally?"

Vincent took the new phone out of its box, adjusted it slightly, and handed it to May, "I’ve had a tracking system installed in this phone; it’ll be easier to find you if you go out someday. Remember, use it sparingly at home because of the radiation, but don’t throw it around when you’re out, understood?"

May had been pent up all day and was itching to swipe the screen, so when she saw the new phone, she was as eager as a dog seeing a bone, nearly drooling.

"I understand, I understand," she said, unwilling to listen to Vincent’s nagging, and hurriedly turned on the phone, began tinkering with it.

Watching her dive into screen-swiping mode, Vincent couldn’t help but sigh helplessly and left the room.

Most of the company’s troubles had been resolved, but what Vincent was most concerned about now was the Dragon Insect issue, so he needed to call Jacob Jennings.

Jacob was still in Crestwood and had just bailed Mason Morgan out today. With Vincent’s strong support, Director Lawson had not closed the case but was waiting for new evidence to arrest Melanie Morgan and others.

Jacob had learned that Melanie was back in Silverwood City, but her exact whereabouts were unknown.

Jacob was supposed to take Mason back to Silverwood City, but Vincent had more pressing matters for him to attend to, so he asked Jacob to send Mason back while he stayed in Crestwood.

Vincent wanted Jacob to investigate May’s hometown and gather information about the mysteries surrounding May. Mason once told May that everyone in the village feared and disliked her, resulting in May having no friends while growing up. Her grandmother and mother moved to live at the foot of the mountain to protect her.

Vincent believed that where there’s smoke, there’s fire; if these people feared May, someone must know secrets about her and the Dragon Insect.

After settling Mason, Jacob personally drove to May’s hometown and, after a day and night of investigation, finally gathered some valuable information.

Some people had once told Jacob about a horrifying incident related to May.

Years ago, after May’s grandmother brought her down from the mountain as an infant, Mason sought out the most respected witch in the village to read her fortune, but after the witch completed the reading, she died a gruesome death in her yard the next day, foaming at the mouth.
