Chapter 1382: Chapter 1382: Naming

The newly unnamed battleship, under the instruction of Sandora, conducted a series of extensive attack demonstrations to fully verify its power, effective range, accuracy, and reaction ability. Each weapon test firing showcased its satisfactory performance. The absolute power of the Dismantling Effect Generator needs no introduction—it can inflict limitless damage on conventional targets, whether they are solid or ethereal entities, even with mathematical rate protection. A single Dismantling Effect is enough to leave the target either dead or severely incapacitated. This destructive effect is truly worthy of the name Executioner on the battlefield. It also demonstrated exceptional weapon response speed and precision. The hit rate exceeded ninety percent when targeting continuously moving objects in space. As a verification-type weapon, this is already an outstanding performance. In a chaotic melee, a heavy cannon with a hit rate of ninety percent poses a deadly threat to all large enemy warships, and achieving victory with a single shot is every soldier’s dream.

However, the Empire’s artillery has always boasted a high hit rate, as most of our weapons can ignore flight paths and perform "fire-and-hit" attacks. The only factors affecting the hit rate would be the target acquisition-fire control system’s processing speed and the weapon’s response accuracy.

After extended testing, the weapon system of the new spaceship achieved a high level of stability, much to Sandora’s satisfaction. As a device with a high energy consumption, the Dismantling Effect Generator could operate continuously for hundreds of cycles while maintaining good working conditions. One must admit that Taville’s decision to build an entirely new warship as a dedicated platform for the Dismantling Effect Generator was visionary. I am sure that she specially designed a new energy system for this weapon. The overall framework of the new spaceship was likely tailor-made for its main cannon. Had this followed the original plan of installing the dismantling device on the generic gun mounts of an older ship model, relying solely on the energy grid provided by the mounts would not suffice to support such an energy-intensive operation.

The aspect that surprised both me and Sandora the most was this ship’s attack mode. Just before each attack, the ship would be swiftly enveloped in a Shadow Field, rendering the entire attack process completely invisible. Only after hitting the target would it appear in another random location under the cover of the Shadow Field. It’s hard to imagine a starship, over six kilometers in length and almost resembling a mountain, moving as unpredictably as a shadow, appearing and disappearing at will. Watching it leap around under the cover of light and shadow, continuously destroying targets, almost felt like a dance—albeit a dance performed by a 6.2-kilometer-long metal block.

"Putting a Shadow Field on a purely technological spaceship..." Once a series of tests were temporarily concluded, I couldn’t help but ask, "Taville, can you explain what exactly a Shadow Field is?"

"I am not well-versed in the shaping technology and transformation rules of the Mysterious system, so I’ll let Lady Orelia explain it to you." Taville said, gesturing behind us. I turned to see the Angel Kite gradually emerging from a burst of light—had she just teleported here from the Heavenly Realm City?

Orelia approached Sandora and me, bowed, and apologized somewhat awkwardly, "Apologies, Your Majesties, an anomaly occurred in a Star Shaping Pool in the Heavenly Realm City, hence my delay."

Sandora nodded indifferently, "Oh, no matter, efficiency in work above all—it seems you were involved in designing this spaceship? I didn’t see your name on the development team list. Right, please explain the Shadow Field issue to us."

"I only provided a suggestion and some existing technical information, and did not directly participate in its development," Orelia explained, turning to look at the new spaceship hovering outside the A-2 tower. "The Shadow Field is something between teleportation technology and invisibility technology. It’s widely used in Mysterious system’s large equipment, but this is the first successful implementation on a Technology Side spaceship. As you can see, something shrouded in a Shadow Field becomes part of the shadow. When the shadow disappears, it falls into Shadow Space. When the Dismantling Effect Generator activates and destroys the target, the Shadow Space is also destroyed, and the spaceship returns to the real world. As long as energy is sufficient, the Shadow Field can be generated indefinitely, and the process can be continuously repeated. Therefore, Taville integrated the Shadow Field with the spaceship’s weapon system into a single program, making it part of the firing process—the result is an attack style as elusive as a Shadow Assassin, which you’ve seen, absolutely impossible to defend against."

"I am very satisfied," Sandora smiled, "but according to you, the Shadow Field is destroyed by the spaceship itself after firing, unable to be maintained indefinitely?"

"Nothing can be perfect," Orelia gently raised her wings. "Something with such power couldn’t remain hidden forever—otherwise, this ship would be invincible."

I listened, feeling both curious and excited—even though I didn’t understand much, knowing I had a new goodie was enough, right?

But I also found it hard to understand why nobody thought to integrate Shadow Fields with Technology Side equipment earlier. The Mysterious system excels in being elusive, while the Technology System excels in various bombardments. Combining the two is like a lighter paired with a gas tank—it heralds the celebratory moment for the explosion enthusiasts.

The Empire, from top to bottom, is entirely all about explosions...

"The Old Empire Era tried countless times, but none succeeded." Taville seemed to have anticipated my question, switching the holographic projection to show the new spaceship’s structural details. I pretended to understand and nodded as usual, then heard Taville continue, "The cornerstone of Technology Side equipment is Ghost Energy and the Crystalized Energy Network, while Mysterious system equipment relies on Arcane, Magic Power, Shadow, Holy Light, various Secondary Energies, and highly complex conversion systems, namely Rune Array. The energy and driving methods for Technology and Mysterious systems don’t match. Apart from the Mixed Type and Shaping Energy Specialization (Raven) Angel Envoy who can use talents to perform small-scale energy conversion, large-scale equipment cannot use them, and the larger the equipment, the harder it is to cross this line."

Orelia, who led many research projects during the Old Empire Era, was naturally more familiar with this history. She took over the explanation, "So, Technology Side spaceships cannot install the same scale of Mysterious system equipment because their energy and energy supply devices do not match. Unless we install two sets of systems in one spaceship: energy core, energy supply network, control devices, external equipment, even two control panels, and a bunch of devices to coordinate the operation of these two systems. The Old Empire did have a Sky Zone attempt to create such a monster spaceship. It had twice the energy consumption, quadruple the manufacturing complexity, super low combat efficiency, a scrap-like battlefield failure rate, and maintenance difficulty that left technicians hand-tied. Later, the Emperor of that Sky Zone issued a command: whoever suggests building a spaceship based on this idea again, wasting Imperial resources, would be exiled to the White Zone for life..."

I nodded knowingly. The Mysterious and Technology systems’ equipment does not match from the energy base, leading to high difficulty in creating hybrid-type spaceships. This is easy to understand: building a hybrid gasoline-electric car is easy, but building a hybrid gasoline-electric aircraft carrier is not that simple. Moreover, the Empire is not just facing "gasoline-electric hybrid" level issues but two incompatible technology trees from a fundamental worldview. Although the trend is toward the integration of Mysterious and Technology, development is needed for this, and the Old Empire did not manage to integrate the two fully.

"Then how did you solve it?" I curiously asked Taville.

"It’s still the Source Energy Ore," Taville pointed at the spaceship image, directing attention to the golden patterns on the connecting beams. "Your Majesty, this is the Rune System provided by Lady Orelia. These runes generate the Shadow Field. We directly cast these runes using Source Energy Ore Alloy and connected them to the spaceship energy network. Now it can generate the Shadow Field with any form of energy, not limited to Magic Power or Arcane. In fact, as long as the energy input is sufficient, you could activate this setup by creating fire on wood on these runes. Theoretically."

I: "..." Taville’s analogy is quite in my style, indeed.

I understood what was happening. I should have realized earlier: why are Mysterious and Technology systems difficult to integrate?

Isn’t it because their energy and driving methods are incompatible!

Source Energy Ore is compatible with any kind of energy—just with varying degrees of compatibility. But even with the lowest cross-compatibility energy, Source Energy Ore is more efficient than the Crystal Network. Can you imagine the kind of scenario that would unfold if a super material that can conduct electricity, heat, magnetism, light—all with a loss rate that never exceeds one in a trillion—appeared on Earth?

Anyway, as long as the material appears in countries outside the United States, the American people will definitely step in to maintain world peace... Oh, this sentence is irrelevant to the current topic, let’s skip it.

Anyway, knowing that the source energy ore solved an ultimate problem that has persisted since the Old Empire is truly exhilarating. I even feel that this news is far more strategically valuable than the spacecraft in front of us, and Taville should have made it the focus of today’s report. If the conversion devices made from the source energy ore are widely used, the New Empire will make remarkable strides in the integration of the mystic and technology systems, potentially leaving the Fallen Apostle behind by an entire era! Considering my connection to this mineral, I feel once again how awesome I really am...

But Taville finally threw cold water on me: "Your Majesty, I’m afraid the situation is not that smooth: source energy ore is a resource that needs to be mined, and its generation speed is limited, unlike extraordinary materials that can be created out of thin air by utilizing ’information-material’ conversion..."

I instantly calmed down, and it occurred to me that it’s only been a few years since the discovery of source energy ore, and the ore spawned by my information disturbance power over these years might not be enough to put a nail on every spaceship in the country...

"Currently, the Deep Dive plan needs source energy ore, new spaceship designs require it, two improved cannon cores, and a shield amplifier in development might also use it, among which the new spaceship consumes the most ore, and in astronomical quantities. Even though only a layer of rune needs to be cast on the surface of the spaceship, it requires deep refining of the ore — we’ve already increased the refining efficiency to 100%, but the resource is still just barely sufficient."

"Alright, I knew a pie wouldn’t just fall from the sky," I pouted, feeling quite disappointed, "The highs and lows of this... Is there any good news besides that?"

"Yes," Taville raised his hand and pointed at the spaceship outside, "Lady Qianqian has yet to name it, and we haven’t given it a name temporarily either. If you are interested, you could name this new warship, and we believe it would be an honor for it."

I immediately beamed with joy, feeling my artistic talent may come into play, while Sandora beside me instantly looked over with a worried gaze, grabbing my arm: "Ah Jun, think carefully..."

I coughed awkwardly twice, pondering what name would sound imposing yet fit its features, namely strong combat power and stealthy attack methods. Clearly, it’s geared towards offense, and its shield system, although obtained from the Fallen Apostle as T2 technology, falls short in defensive enhancement compared to the brilliance of the small dismantling generator, so I’ll call it...

I was just about to speak when Sandora grabbed my arm again, with a particularly earnest look: "Ah Jun, think again."

Me: "...I haven’t said anything yet..."

"Say the reminder first, to avoid being too surprised to forget later on," Sandora continued earnestly.

I glanced twitching at Her Majesty the Queen, taking a deep breath: "How about calling it Executioner Class? I think it sounds pretty cool, but if you have any objections, we can still discuss it... um, don’t keep silent..."

Sandora stood there expressionless, as though temporarily petrified. I vigorously poked her face to bring Her Majesty back to her senses. Sandora looked at me, perplexed, as if seeing a stranger: "Ah Jun, was that name you came up with?"

Me: "Yes, and we can change it if it’s not suitable."

"Why does it sound so normal..." Sandora muttered, pinching her own face, then looked at Taville, "Do you think this name is presentable? I find it quite normal, but I’m worried my aesthetic might have warped from spending too much time with Ah Jun."

Taville nodded dumbly: "If you have no objections, we’ll just settle on that. The new spaceship is named Executioner Class."

After thinking for a long time, I finally flipped out: "Sandora, you’ve also learned to tease people!"

Actually, at first, I thought of naming this spaceship "Assassin Class" because its stealthy attack process really invokes the feeling of an assassin, but after some thought, even if it has invisibility during firing, it’s essentially a warship that engages the enemy directly on the battlefield. A mere shadow field isn’t enough to execute a decapitation strike deep behind enemy lines, and its speed and agility aren’t outstanding either, so I named it Executioner based on another impression. This name is actually quite mundane, but fitting—a warship capable of directly slaughtering targets with super firepower, there’s probably nothing that rivals the destructive power of a ship equipped with a mini Genesis, right?

The new spaceship’s firepower is already very satisfying, with its only weak point probably being the "range" issue. This doesn’t refer to conventional range; under Taville’s efforts, the effective distance of the dismantling beam reaches 0.1 light years, and its operation in continuous space needs no doubt; this range is sufficient. The previous "range issue" refers to its lack of super space-time attack capabilities: the dismantling effect is too strong, causing space gates to collapse, so the Executioner Class cannot deploy super space-time firepower, meaning that in cross-world or intra-universe long-distance strikes (battlefield distances from one light year to the entire universe), the Executioner Class can only watch from the sidelines. It’s a weapon to be used after close-quarter engagement between warring parties. This is somewhat regrettable, but compared to its power, it’s trivial.

Of course, the new spaceship’s acceptance criteria are not limited to weapons and appearance (although I seem to only understand these two points). However, unexpectedly, its weaponry is so high-energy that Sandora and I spent quite some time on this project. Following that, Taville began introducing aspects like the spaceship’s defense, propulsion, endurance, crew capacity, and other miscellaneous topics, as well as explaining the ship’s structural situation. By this point, I basically couldn’t understand any of it, only grasping that the Executioner Class actually has two sets of dismantling effect generators located in the midsection of its split hull, precisely at the most eye-catching two blue halo positions. During attacks, its two generators alternately activate to reduce pressure on single gun mounts, thereby extending sustained combat times. Its shield, although not as robust as Eternal Level and Frontier-class tank ships, due to adopting the fast refresh shield technology from the Fallen Apostle, possesses rapid recharge capabilities. Its shield strength is roughly comparable to the Expedition Class (slightly weaker), but as long as it isn’t hit again within a short time, its shield can fully recharge. If this feature is used effectively, experienced commanders may be able to develop various flexible tactics. The propulsion device on the Executioner Class is nothing too remarkable, merely standard, allowing it to keep pace when cooperating with medium-sized warships in battle. This shouldn’t be overly expected, though, given its already super-strong firepower and far superior defensive abilities among same-level warships, the energy furnace output is always limited, and getting to this point is already quite impressive for Taville.

You can’t expect an ordinary person to be both exceptionally gifted and wealthy, able to sweep through the eighteen sects of three mountains and five passes, while knowing thirty kinds of musical instruments, able to eloquently argue with the elderly in supermarkets, take care of the children and household for the wife, single-handedly infiltrate the FBI for half a year when the country needs, and save the world from aliens when humanity needs, under extreme situations, continue human civilization through asexual reproduction after the apocalypse—such a person, if they could truly exist, would only be possible if Dingdang drunkenly created them...
