Wrong Love, Final Goodbye: She'll Never Look Back-Chapter 367: Declan Pierce, Where Are You?
"Secretary-General Crawford! Are you trying to morally coerce a citizen?" Professor Truman interrupted her sternly, not looking pleased, as he shielded Tanya behind him. He spoke up to see them off, "Please leave immediately, I won’t be seeing you out!"
Professor Truman’s face was dark with anger as he issued the order to leave.
Secretary-General Crawford and Minister Walsh exchanged a look, and finally, Secretary-General Crawford took out a business card and placed it on the table.
"Ms. Sinclair, we are truly out of options, which is why we have come to ask for your help. But if you really do not wish to go, we will respect your decision."
After saying this, the two left.
Professor Truman, in his anger, reached for the business card, about to throw it away, "If I had known they were here to send you to your death, I wouldn’t have called you at all!"
"Professor." Tanya spoke up to stop him, reaching out, "Leave the card with me. I’ll think about it."
Professor Truman frowned, feeling a bit distressed, "Tanya, you don’t have to be so kind. This isn’t your responsibility..."
"Among the kidnapped, there is also Senior Wenworth." Tanya looked at her mentor, whose temples were graying, and said seriously, "Senior Wenworth was the first to follow you, and to him, you’ve been both a mentor and a father figure. Over the years, you’ve always treated us like your own children. Even if you can truly disregard others, what about Senior Wenworth?"
Professor Truman’s eyes trembled slightly.
He was indeed worried about Cameron Wenworth. If they wanted him, he would not hesitate to risk his old bones to exchange for him!
But they wanted Tanya Sinclair.
Publicly or privately, he was unwilling to let such a promising talent face danger!
"Don’t talk to me about this. I won’t agree to let you go!" Professor Truman became agitated as he spoke, "You barely just recovered, went through so much hardship, and now that your life and work are back on track... They speak so nicely about ensuring your safety, but once inside, accidents happen, and who knows what could go wrong? Sending a woman out to bear such a heavy responsibility! They actually have the gall to show up at the door!"
As Professor Truman spoke, he became more and more angry, eventually issuing an ultimatum: "In any case, you are forbidden to go! I refuse to agree! As for your senior brother, I believe the military will bring him back safely!"
Seeing his adamant stance, Tanya did not say much more.
"I understand. Professor, I have something to attend to at home. I need to go back first."
Professor Truman crumpled the business card into a ball and threw it into the trash can.
"Go ahead." Professor Truman’s expression softened a little, "Don’t worry about Secretary-General Crawford, I’ll handle it."
Tanya nodded slightly and turned to leave.
She got into the car and casually saved the phone number from Secretary-General Crawford’s card into her phone.
Her memory was unusually good; she had already memorized the number with just one glance.
Tanya drove all the way home, heading straight to the study, flipping through her previous ancient medical texts.
The most crucial herb—baby grass. Its last appearance was in an overseas auction three years ago. Although the buyer’s information was not available, the auction house was on Gralen Island! 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Tanya took a deep breath; even if Secretary-General Crawford hadn’t come today, she would still have to visit Gralen Island as soon as possible.
Before six o’clock tomorrow morning, she needed to give Secretary-General Crawford her final answer.
This meant she had less than a day left to settle domestic matters.
Tanya first went to find Aunt Tawny.
"Aunt Tawny, I have to leave early tomorrow to attend a very important research activity. The return date is uncertain, and it’s managed in a closed environment. I may not be able to contact home every day. I’ll have to trouble you with Caden."
Although the news was sudden, Aunt Tawny was aware that Tanya’s work involved research and soon accepted it.
"Don’t worry, Madam. Mason also lives nearby. You don’t need to worry about anything at home! Caden has practically grown up under my care; he’s very considerate. Rest assured, I’ll take care of him!"
Tanya smiled, "Of course, I trust you. If Caden wants to go back to his father’s, just send him over."
No matter how much she despised Vincent Hawthorne, he was, after all, Caden’s father.
When it came to the two children, Vincent Hawthorne had genuinely been sincere.
"I understand, Madam." Aunt Tawny glanced at the time, stood up, and said, "I’ll help you pack now."
"Alright, just pack a few clothes for me as you see fit. I’m... going out for a bit, might come back late. Don’t wait for me for dinner."
Aunt Tawny smiled, "Are you going to meet Mr. Pierce? Go on, Madam, I’m sure Mr. Pierce will miss you. Have a good date tonight!"
Tanya smiled and said nothing more.
She was indeed going to meet Declan Pierce.
She wanted to tell him that she’d found the medicine to heal him. Although she wasn’t a hundred percent sure about the final effect, as long as there was hope, it was worth trying!
She wanted Declan Pierce to be safe and healthy, to live a long life. She wanted to grow old with Declan.
Before heading to Phoenix Court, Tanya called Declan.
However, Declan, who usually answered her calls within seconds, took half a minute to pick up this time.
"Tanya, what’s up?" His voice was as tender as ever, flawless. But the background was slightly noisy. It sounded like someone was talking, and Tanya recognized a woman’s laughter among the voices.
Tanya: "Are you busy?"
Declan: "Not busy, just having dinner with Zion Monroe and the others, discussing some things."
The background quickly quieted down.
Tanya could almost hear Declan’s unhurried breaths, and he gently asked her, "What’s the matter?"
"..." Tanya suddenly felt a strange clogging in her chest. After a few seconds of silence, she spoke, "Send me the address. I’ll come find you. I want to see you."
"Alright." Declan agreed without a moment’s hesitation.
He had no secrets from her.
Tanya actually wanted to ask who else was there besides Zion Monroe in that "them"...
But the words were swallowed back.
Declan patiently waited for her to hang up first.
Tanya said in a low voice, "Don’t drink or eat anything too spicy."
He laughed, "Okay."
His voice was deep and slightly hoarse, indescribably alluring.
Nothing had changed.
And yet, it felt like something was different.
Tanya put down her phone, lowered the car window to let the cool breeze dissipate her chaotic thoughts.
Declan’s address had already been sent.
It was a century-old restaurant; Tanya had a good memory, and she remembered Declan mentioning this restaurant a while ago, saying its food was very good.
At that time, he said: ’You will definitely like the signature dishes there. When you have some free time, I’ll take you to try them.’
But now, he didn’t take her there; he went to eat with someone else first.
