World's No. 1 Swordsman-Chapter 353: Unstoppable in Battle
Inside the cargo container, Dale sat close by. With a somewhat complicated expression, she gazed at Wang Sheng, who rested with his longsword slung across his back.
She looked hesitant, as though she wished to reach out yet held back because she was shy. Her shyness had a trace of anticipation, and within that anticipation lay admiration and reverence.
Beside her, Huai Jing and the others chatted cheerfully among themselves. Soon, the three quietly placed their left hands behind their backs and stretched out their right hands together.
Huai Jing and Liu Yunzhi both revealed fists, beating Shi Qianzhang's "peace sign." Grinning sheepishly and scratching his head, he walked over to Wang Sheng and plopped himself down at his side.
By doing so, he blocked the lustful gaze of a certain foreign woman nearby.
Shi Qianzhang casually said, "Brother Sheng, Little Liu wants to know if you can give him some guidance on that Lightning Flash of yours."
Liu Yunzhi's eyes widened. He rushed forward to shut Shi Qianzhang's big mouth, but Wang Sheng had opened his eyes before he could.
"Let me ask." Wang Sheng tilted his head as if listening. He then gazed at Liu Yunzhi.
Yaoyun telepathically told the four men, "That technique requires an extremely durable body. Moreover, only after deeply comprehending the methods of controlling lightning can one truly understand how to use it."
Though disappointed, Liu Yunzhi still nodded in acknowledgment.
Huai Jing sighed with regret. "Amitabha. Speaking of strong bodies, it's a pity I don't know any Daoist arts."
"The Buddhist sects have an escape technique known as the Yaoguang Technique," Yaoyun replied softly. "If you can find and perfect it, you'll have a godlike power."
Huai Jing hurriedly nodded, the favor somewhat overwhelming him.
They then overheard another exchange. Wang Sheng muttered under his breath, "Why didn't you lend me a hand when I killed the ancient prince? You just let me chase him that far."
"You could win on your own. What did you need my help for?"
"I could have saved some of my power. Considering we're wandering abroad right now, we're bound to face more experts later."
"Why are you so nervous? They are no more than petty devils from small clans, unheard of in the realm of immortal spirits, and they possess no heavenly fate[1]. You can kill them all without fear of a karmic debt binding you. Don't blame me for your inability to manage your power wisely."
Wang Sheng argued back, "When have I ever slaughtered the innocent?"
"When two races stand opposed, there are no innocents. In the boundless heavens, exterminations happen every day."
Wang Sheng blinked. "Wouldn't that just end up creating a bunch of self-righteous people?"
"Mm?" The sword spirit sounded puzzled.
The others could almost see a tiny immortal maiden perched on the hilt of the sword, tilting her head in confusion.
Wang Sheng smirked and sighed. "Next time we meet someone powerful, don't hesitate to attack. If you can kill them immediately, then go for it."
"I cannot let you grow dependent on me. You still have a long way ahead, Young Man."
"I only pursue efficiency."
"For your efficiency, you would make me face filth? Even while inside the sword, I still feel disgusted whenever you cut down those devils."
The sword spirit was once a princess of the Heavenly Court, after all. Though she had endured its calamity, she had never used her own "body" to hack apart enemies.
Remembering her background, Wang Sheng felt a little ashamed. He sighed. "Are you all right? Should I just use Flying Haze instead?" 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
With a trace of sorrow, Yaoyun answered, "No need. As your sword spirit, I will do what a sword spirit must. Just cultivate diligently. When the time is right, I will take you to a blessed land for training."
Shi Qianzhang suddenly cleared his throat and casually said, "Brother Sheng, Senior's loudspeaker seems to have been left on."
Wang Sheng laughed and shook his head.
"Hmph." Yaoyun cut her telepathic connection with the others.
With a grieving look, Liu Yunzhi and Huai Jing glared at Shi Qianzhang. Deep down, though, they were all surprised.
Wang Sheng didn't even have his sword spirit's help when he slew the ancient prince. Had she joined him, they could have unleashed Spiritless's true might together and slain the vampire in an instant.
The more they thought about it, the more unbelievable it seemed. Since Wang Sheng had not closed his eyes again yet, they began bombarding him with questions.
Wang Sheng shared with them his impressions from the battle. However, his long monologue could be summed up in a single line: without senior experts to back them, they should never clash with alien races.
Dale, who had clearly been excluded, could only smile helplessly. She could not understand why the three young cultivators not only showed her no goodwill but also had faint hostility as well.
As they chatted, the truck suddenly slowed, and the container shook slightly. Before they could wonder what had happened, gunfire and explosions rang out nearby, accompanying the shrill screams of women.
Wang Sheng swept out his spiritual perception. His brow furrowed slightly. "Let's go outside. It seems we are blocked on the road."
Huai Jing immediately pulled a devil-subduing staff from his storage pouch. Shi Qianzhang and Liu Yunzhi also gripped their talismans. Dale, somewhat tense, followed behind them.
The road's blocked?
Dark Faction experts weren't the culprits, though. The highway itself was jammed with vehicles.
Wang Sheng leaped onto the roof of the container, while Liu Yunzhi courteously gave Dale a hand. Otherwise, the young lady, who had grown used to being treated like a star, would have once more felt that the four were leaving her out. So much for the experience of traveling abroad.
The road was packed tight. In the distant city, smoke billowed in every direction. The gunfire and explosions also echoed from it.
The civil war in Gambi had already begun.
The Dark Faction still seemed unaware that Wang Sheng had slain one of the ancient vampire princes. Following their original plan, they had backed the rebel forces to launch a sudden assault.
War engulfed Gambi's five main cities. With Dark Faction experts and mercenaries supporting them, the rebels were heavily armed. Within moments, the government's armed forces collapsed in defeat.
Wang Sheng's spiritual perception swept across the city, finding countless civilians caught in the chaos. The rebels' fierce onslaught swiftly mounted casualties.
Only half an hour ago, the city had merely seemed bleak, its undercurrents stirring. Now, those undercurrents had erupted and taken innocent lives.
"What's wrong with peaceful development? Why stir up such trouble?"
Lamenting, Shi Qianzhang shook his head. "I'd have been more than happy to see this happen to Sakura Island."
"Sakura Island is already in turmoil," Liu Yunzhi replied. "I hear their cultivation world has split into two factions and fallen into civil strife."
"That's their cultivation world, not the mundane realm. How many would die from cultivators fighting one another?" Shi Qianzhang shrugged. "Oh, wait. I'm a peace-loving Daoist."
Huai Jing intoned Buddha's name and began chanting scripture to deliver the souls of those who had perished in the city. Meanwhile, Wang Sheng thought for a moment and then laid out their battle plan.
"I have already located the sixth devilish sword. Huai Jing, Qianzhang, we'll go with our old strategy: you attack from the front, I will charge in from above."
Huai Jing stopped chanting. He and Shi Qianzhang answered affirmatively in unison.
"Yunzhi, you and Miss Dale will help the civilians caught in the crossfire," Wang Sheng added gravely. "The Dark Faction and other ambitious schemers are using the people of this small nation as mere sacrifices. If we can help them, then we should."
Liu Yunzhi and Dale nodded.
"Do not go too deep. Many Dark Faction experts are still hiding in the city," Wang Sheng warned. "Our goal is the devilish sword. Once we secure it, we move to our next target."
Wang Sheng summoned Flying Haze, formed a sword finger gesture with his left hand, and pointed forward. Flying Haze let out a piercing cry as it shot ahead.
Lightning flickered around him. In a flash, he appeared at the end of a bolt of lightning, standing upon Flying Haze. Many watched as he made the sword speed toward the chaotic city. Foreigners recording the battle on their phones captured it as well.
Soon after, two more pairs followed closely behind, flying low over the ground.
As Wang Sheng entered the city's main street, a shrill screech rang out. On a rooftop, dozens of experts from the family of the vampire princess earlier spread their wings. As their eyes glowed scarlet, they pounced at him.
Wang Sheng had no intention of telling them that the ancient prince had devoured their princess. He did not draw Spiritless either. Instead, he grasped the air with his right hand, gathering lightning to form a longsword. There was no need to use a butcher's cleaver on chickens. Against this rabble, the Heavenly Tribulation Sword Intent was more than enough.
Channeling more enchanted power into Flying Haze, Wang Sheng accelerated and crashed straight into the group of vampires. Below, a crowd of fleeing civilians glanced upward in panic. Their mortal eyes could not even see Wang Sheng. All they saw was a bolt of lightning flashing across the heavens and smashing into the winged monsters.
Moments later, blood rained from the sky. No one could withstand even one blow from the thunderous light. Limbs fell one after another, and the screeches turned into cries of terror.
The lightning vanished a few seconds later, the sky clearing once more. Wang Sheng howled deeply with indomitable battle intent, then soared high into the heavens..
Why would I fear fighting a hundred enemies alone? Why would I find it difficult to face a thousand?
All across the city, Dark Faction cultivators turned their eyes toward him. Some even smirked, preparing to test his strength. However, just as Wang Sheng's howl faded, explosive news spread swiftly through the Dark Faction's pirated versions of a popular Hua Republic chat application. Their largest social groups ensured the message reached every member.
Right after, those who had smirked lowered their heads. More than a dozen subgroups, once ready to make a name for themselves in the chaos, immediately melted back into the shadows.
