World Domination Begins With Getting a System in a Modern World-Chapter 62: A Gift For A Brother
Chapter 62: A Gift For A Brother
James refused the investment offer from the bank without hesitation, his tone polite and firm tone.
He had no intention of allowing anyone else, beside the offshore trust holding company he’s creating to handle his money.
Hanging up, he pushed the thought aside and grabbed his car key fob before leaving his room.
As he walked downstairs, he saw Patty and Leslie in the living room, casually watching TV.
"I’m heading to Ralph’s place," James said, walking past them.
Leslie barely looked up. "Bring me back something expensive," she joked, smirking.
James scoffed. "Dream on."
Patty chuckled but said nothing.
With that, James walked out of the house and into the bright afternoon sun. He got into his Chevrolet Trax, started the engine, and pulled out of the driveway.
***
James drove to the car dealership where he had purchased his Chevrolet Trax.
The last time he had been there, he was a struggling young man barely able to afford a decent car.
Not that he was actually struggling but his situation was miles from it currently is, as he could now buy the entire dealership if he wanted to.
But that wasn’t his goal today. He wasn’t here for himself. He came here for Ralph.
The moment James walked into the dealership, he saw a familiar face rushing toward him.
Laila.
The same saleswoman — his former schoolmates — who had treated him poorly the last time he came purchase a car.
Her posture was nervous as she approached, but her voice was still professional.
"Welcome back, Mr. James," she said, her expression uncertain. "How can I assist you today?"
James noticed that she added "Mr" to his name and he could tell that she was on edge.
He knew that she expected him to hold a grudge for how she had dismissed him the last time he was here.
But while James was no saint, he wasn’t a petty man either, as long as no one disrespects Patty, Leslie, his late parents, or insults to a level he can’t handle, he won’t hold grudges. Also, James treated Laila’s attitude towards him then as her being immature.
So he simply nodded and replied in a neutral tone.
"I’m looking for a car. Something luxurious but not too over-the-top."
Laila’s face brightened with relief. She was still new around here and she has a monthly quota to meet, and so she was happy that James agreed for her to attend to him.
After James left the last time he came, the cashier talked to her and she went back home and reflected on herself. She wanted to apologize to James, but she felt that if she call him, it would seem like she wants to ingratiate herself with him because he’s now rich. And so, she was very happy when she saw James today and even happier when he didn’t hold a grudge over the last time.
She quickly led him toward the section where the expensive cars were displayed.
As she introduced each model, James noticed how fidgety she was — constantly glancing at him as if waiting for some sort of payback.
But James remained calm, composed, and indifferent. He let her do her job as he looked around.
His eyes landed on a sleek black Mercedes in the corner.
"That one."
Laila followed his gaze. "The Mercedes AMG S63? Excellent choice!"
She immediately launched into a detailed description of the car’s specifications, features, and performance.
James listened patiently, then cut in midway.
"I’ll take it."
Laila froze mid-sentence.
"Huh?"
"I’ll take it," James repeated.
There was no hesitation in his voice.
Laila’s eyes widened in disbelief, but when she realized he was serious, her face lit up with excitement.
"I probably just made her entire month," James thought.
***
The Mercedes AMG S63 was worth $187,350.
James paid the full amount upfront, shocking the cashier who processed the transaction.
She remembered that James paid the full amount the last time he came too, and she can’t help but wonder how someone as young as him is so rich.
She had her questions but she didn’t ask, as she went to procees the temporary documents. As the temporary documents were being prepared, James turned to Laila.
"Do you do home delivery for the cars?"
Laila nodded. "Yes, but there’s an extra fee for that."
"I don’t mind," James replied.
"Get the delivery driver ready. I want the car’s original documents sent to this address when they have been processed," He said, and handed her a slip of paper with Ralph’s address on it.
Laila’s smile widened as she hurried off to make the arrangements.
***
Within minutes, both Laila and the cashier returned at the same time.
Laila had brought the delivery driver, while the cashier handed James the car’s documents and key fob.
James took the documents, glanced through them quickly, confirmed that everything was in order and then handed the key fob to the delivery driver.
"Follow me," James instructed.
The delivery driver nodded, got into the Mercedes, and followed James out of the dealership.
As James drove off, he caught a glimpse of Laila waving at him through the side mirror, a genuine smile of appreciation on her face.
"She probably thinks I’m still mad at her."
But James wasn’t thinking about her anymore.
He was thinking about Ralph’s reaction.
"I hope he accepts it."
***
The drive to Ralph’s house was smooth, with the Mercedes trailing behind.
James couldn’t stop grinning slightly as he imagined Ralph’s shock and disbelief.
He knew that Ralph wouldn’t accept an overly expensive gift, which was why he had chosen something luxurious but reasonable. If it wasn’t because of that, he has no problem splurging and buying him a hyper car.
After a short drive, James finally arrived in front of Ralph’s house.
He parked his car and the delivery driver parked the Mercedes right behind him.
As James stepped out, the driver walked over and handed him the key fob.
James thanked him, paid the delivery fee, and watched as the driver left the premises.
Then, he turned toward Ralph’s house — and immediately froze.
Standing at the door, staring at him in pure shock, was Ralph himself.
His eyes were locked onto the brand-new Mercedes, his mouth slightly open in disbelief.
James smirked.
"Surprise, motherfucker!"
Ralph blinked.
Once. Twice.
And then, he snapped out of his daze.
"The fuck is this?!" Ralph finally shouted, stepping outside.
James casually tossed him the key fob.
"Your new ride," he said smoothly.
Ralph caught the key, then immediately threw it back at James.
"HELL NO."
James sighed, already expecting this.
"You worked your ass off for me. This is my way of saying thank you."
Ralph shook his head rapidly, backing away from the car like it was cursed.
"Nah, man. I can’t accept this. This is too much."
James smirked at Ralph’s action. Even though he was saying that, he could see it in his eyes that he very much wants to take the car.
"If it was too much, I would’ve bought you a Bugatti."
Ralph froze again, his expression twisting in horror.
"James, I swear to God, if you even think about buying me a Bugatti—"
James chuckled, placing a hand on Ralph’s shoulder.
"Relax. Just take the damn car, man."
Ralph rubbed his temples, still trying to process everything.
"You really bought this for me?"
James nodded.
"100%."
Ralph exhaled deeply.
"Fuck..."
He stared at the Mercedes AMG S63 again, then, slowly, he reached for the key fob.
He gripped it tightly, his expression a mix of emotions.
"...Thanks, man," he finally muttered.
James grinned as he knew Ralph was already in love with the car.
"That’s what brothers are for."
