Wizard: Starting from the Skill Tree-Chapter 422: Ancient Well
If it were normal times, this distance could be covered in the blink of an eye, but at this moment, it felt like a chasm separating the hundred meters.
An overwhelming, continuous howling wall of Undead blocked every path like a thick barrier.
At least for Leonard, reaching the plaza while ensuring the safety of himself and Ella was not something that could be accomplished swiftly.
Duke grasped the Blazing Sun Judgment, and behind him, a pair of wide, solid white bright wings unfolded, a spell attached to the Blazing Sun Judgment.
With one hand holding the sword and the other around Vivian’s waist, he began advancing toward the plaza.
Leonard saw this and hastily shouted, "Brother Duke, wait for us!"
"Who said we were brothers?" Duke replied without turning his head.
He couldn’t even ensure his own safety, let alone worry about Leonard and his companion.
The bright wings behind Duke suddenly flapped, clutching Vivian tightly, transforming into a stream of luminous arrow, swiftly darting toward the ancient well in the plaza, far faster than rushing along the ground.
"Duke!" Leonard shouted in mixed anger and alarm, helplessly watching Duke and Vivian fly off into the distance.
A piercing eagle screech cut through the skies, the Storm Dragon Eagle frantically flapped its wings.
Thunderbolts, denser and wilder than before, poured down like torrential rain, mainly striking directly ahead and to the sides of Duke’s path, clearing a relatively smooth aerial passage for him.
Occasionally, lightning struck near Leonard and his sister, temporarily clearing a small area for them, but the main focus was clearly not on them.
On the ground, the Three-headed Magma Lizard let loose deafening roars, charging toward the plaza like a burning war chariot.
Wherever it passed, lava rolled, and flames spewed, reducing the obstructing Undead to ashes.
Leonard’s eyes lit up at this sight, immediately pulling Ella along, exerting all their strength to follow the side and rear of the Magma Lizard, leveraging its charging momentum and the heat radiating from its body to move forward with difficulty.
This was undoubtedly easier than facing endless Undead alone, but it was still perilous, constantly requiring them to fend off attacks from the sides and rear.
Duke, holding Vivian, was the first to break through the heavy barriers of Undead, the bright wings behind him scattering flecks of light, steadily landing on the edge of the town plaza.
As soon as their feet touched the stone slabs covered in black viscous substance, a denser, bone-chilling malice and Erosion Energy hit them, suffocating them.
If a native Awakened from the Devourer Plane were present, they would surely be contaminated instantly by this Erosion Energy.
Fortunately, this Erosion Energy had no effect on Wizards, only causing some discomfort.
The Three-headed Magma Lizard followed closely, crashing into the plaza like a burning meteor, its hot lava clashing with the dark material on the ground, emitting sizzling sounds, sending up plumes of foul black smoke, and temporarily clearing a relatively clean area.
Leonard and Ella clumsily followed the Magma Lizard in, looking quite sorry.
However, everyone’s eyes were firmly fixed on the ancient well in the center of the plaza, which was bubbling continuously.
The well had completely changed in appearance. The stone railing was corroded beyond recognition, covered by a black fungal blanket that seemed to have life and was writhing.
Inside the well, instead of ordinary water, there was a tar-like sticky, bubbling Dark Energy liquid, emitting extremely dense negative energy and Erosion aura. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
What made it even more unsettling was that the well was not empty.
Faintly visible in the depths of the viscous Dark Energy liquid was a curled, blurry humanoid silhouette, rising and submerging intermittently.
It seemed to be the core of the energy eruption, each weak pulse causing the well’s energy liquid to churn violently, spewing large quantities of Dark Energy, rapidly forming new Undead in the outside world.
The newly born Undead did not immediately attack them, but circled the ancient well like pilgrims, howling before joining the assault waves outside.
This created an oddly quiet vacuum in the plaza’s core area, appearing relatively safer.
However, it wasn’t so; Duke could intuitively sense a strong threat emanating from within the ancient well.
More accurately, it was coming from the silhouette inside the ancient well.
"What is that thing?" Leonard took a step back instinctively, wanting to distance himself from the presence in the well.
No one could answer his question. Duke took out a handheld metal sphere, covered in intricate silver patterns.
This was the Energy Detector Merrick had given him during his exploration of the Void Corridor, capable of sensing entities with high energy concentration nearby and differentiating between different energy intensities.
With the Energy Detector in hand, Duke probed into it with his Spiritual Power, quickly sensing the energy distribution around him and the high energy silhouette inside the ancient well.
From an energy level perspective, the entity inside the well had reached Level 2 Life, and its energy was slowly growing.
Judging by the current trend, if this process wasn’t interrupted, the entity inside the well would become increasingly stronger.
This was clearly not good, at least for Duke and the others.
Quickly, Duke relayed the information he obtained to Vivian, saying, "We need to do something instead of waiting it out."
"It seems to be in a developmental phase, more like an embryo of something. If it truly grows, the consequences would likely be..." Vivian appeared worried.
Duke understood her meaning; they must stop this thing from continuing to grow soon, or they’d face dire repercussions.
The problem was that this entity was already at Level 2 Life, stronger than anyone present.
At the moment, it seemed fairly calm, showing no signs of coming out.
Thus, there were two options: wait for external United Legion’s assistance or take the initiative to attempt to eliminate whatever was in the well.
Even if they couldn’t kill it, finding a way to interrupt its growth would be necessary.
Listening to the conversation behind them, Leonard hastily said, "I suggest we wait for help. It seems to be in a dormant state now. If we wake it, we’ll be doomed!"
