Chapter 405: 157 Black Wizard_2

The ghostly figure’s hooves struck the ground, resisting the dragon’s tearing bite as it fiercely propelled the chariot high into the sky.

"PHEW..."

A fierce wind assaulted their faces, and the pursuers behind them were left far behind.

"It’s no wonder it’s Wizard Daniel’s spirit-ram chariot. I estimate even a First Rank Late Stage cultivator might not catch up if it sprints at full power."

Carl praised, then turned to Inid and the other. "How did you get into this kind of trouble?"

"..." Inid forced a smile. "Trouble?"

"You know my character very well; I would never invite trouble. It’s all because of the Vortex Spirit Butterfly."

"The Vortex Spirit Butterfly?" Carl frowned. "People came after you so soon?"

He had thought the issue would only arise after the auction ended, but things had escalated much quicker than expected.

"The Family Head acquired the Vortex Spirit Butterfly and didn’t wait for the auction to end before sending us back in different groups," Inid explained, as if reading Carl’s mind.

"Our group had just left when we were immediately pursued by Black Wizards. We were lucky to run into you."

"Zoe," Inid urged. "Quick, thank Wizard Carl!"

"Wizard Carl." Zoe, a woman in her thirties with a pale face, spoke, her voice tinged with tears, "Thank you!"

Carl’s gaze lingered momentarily on Zoe’s slightly bulging belly; he could hear another faint heartbeat.

"Pregnant?"

"Yes." Inid nodded. "We originally brought her out to gain some experience, but unexpectedly... Zoe’s husband didn’t make it out."

"It’s alright," Zoe bit her lip and spoke softly. "As long as the Family Head can bring back the Vortex Spirit Butterfly and allow the Nelson family to produce a Second Circle Wizard."

"It’s all worth it!"

"Well said!" Inid patted her on the back. "That’s the spirit of a good daughter-in-law of our Nelson family."

Carl remained silent.

Using other family members as bait to bring back the Vortex Spirit Butterfly amidst the chaos—the Nelson family made a decisive move. However, was it really worth it?

Even with the Vortex Spirit Butterfly, whether it could be refined into an elixir was one question. Even with an elixir, it wasn’t guaranteed that a One-Circle Late Stage Wizard could advance. It merely offered a chance. Yet, just for that chance, a family with many Wizards was willing to risk everything.

"Wizard Carl," Inid pursed her lips. "Once we get back to the Leipzig Market, could you let Zoe work in your shop for a while?"

"You know... the Nelson family might not be very safe recently."

"This..." Carl thought for a moment, then nodded in agreement. "If it’s just work, there’s no problem."

「 」

Carl never found out whether the Vortex Spirit Butterfly eventually reached the hands of that One-Circle Late Stage Wizard of the Nelson family.

However, he could feel that in the following days, the atmosphere in the Leipzig Market gradually grew tense.

I wonder if the Six Rings Tower can keep the Andrew family in check. I hope there won’t be any more trouble. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Whatever! You all fight your fights, just don’t interfere with me. I can find the resources I need for my cultivation in the Otherworld.

Glancing at the somewhat gloomy sky, Carl muttered softly to himself and stepped outside.

Leaving the market, he rubbed his face and, in the blink of an eye, transformed into a burly man with thick eyebrows and large eyes.

The shapeshifting technique of his Bloodline Magic, combined with a Legendary Knight’s control over his own aura, allowed for a perfect disguise.

Even if Oma stood before him now, she definitely wouldn’t recognize him.

「The Beast Market.」

A place used by the Andrew family to sell beast meat.

Even before he got close, the thick scent of blood assaulted his nostrils, mingled with the distinct odors of various beasts.

The ground was crisscrossed with grooves where blood mixed with filth flowed. A careless step would land you in it.

This was a place frequented only by the lower classes.

Never mind distinguished Wizards; even Wizard Apprentices usually wouldn’t come here to buy meat, even though the prices here were cheaper than in the main market.

Carl went against the flow of people to the back where the beast meat was stacked and waved to a man in a short vest.

"Vincent!"

"Oh!" Vincent turned at the sound, a smile breaking across his face. "It turns out to be our respected guest, Qiao. I thought you had forgotten about the beast meat you stored here."

"Of course not," Carl smiled and said. "That’s hundreds of thousands of pounds of beast meat. I was hoping to make some money off it this time."

"Then you’ll be disappointed," Vincent said. "Although the price of beast meat has gone up recently, the increase isn’t much. You’ll break even at best."

"What a pity," Carl sighed. "Where’s the stuff?"

"This way."

Vincent gestured.

The two men arrived at a warehouse at the back. Vincent had someone open the heavy doors, revealing square blocks of frozen beast meat inside.

A quick glance suggested there were at least four to five hundred thousand pounds of it!

Five hundred thousand pounds might seem like a lot, but it was actually just over two hundred tons. It could be crammed into a few rooms if packed tightly.

It could easily fit into a Divine Domain Fragment.

"Much obliged," Carl nodded in satisfaction. "I’ll take them now."

「 」

Shortly after, watching Carl’s departing figure, Vincent gestured to a young man.

"Tell them that person has left."

"Uncle," the young man hesitated briefly then said in a low voice, "This man was introduced by Wizard Carl of the Six Rings Tower. Are we really going to let people make a move on him?"

"The Six Rings Tower..." Vincent narrowed his eyes. "So what?"

"Besides, it’s not our Andrew family making the move, but people from the Dark Fortress. It has nothing to do with us."

"Moreover," Vincent continued, "that’s hundreds of thousands of pounds of beast meat, enough to sustain a village for a year. From what this man said, he might want more in the future. There shouldn’t be any other factions near the market."

"Yes," the young man agreed and hurried off.

「 」

Having acquired the beast meat, Carl felt pleased.

Mei Lun mentioned the mysterious seller should have arrived. When I go to the Otherworld tomorrow, I hope to acquire a suitable Holy Skill.

If that fails, I’ll simply switch to a different breathing technique. I’ve heard that the Furnace Hundred Phases Breathing Technique is a higher Tier than the Giant Spirit Breathing Technique. Most importantly, it adapts to most of the Holy Skills passed down from the Divine Domain...

I have a Divine Domain Fragment to bless myself. Theoretically, I can master any Divine’s breathing technique.

By the way, which Divine passed down the Furnace Hundred Phases?

Hmm?

As he walked, Carl’s brow furrowed slightly. He could feel a faint, almost imperceptible gaze on him.

There was no fluctuation of spiritual power, indicating it wasn’t witchcraft-based surveillance.

But besides being an Official Wizard, he was also a Legendary Knight, and his physical senses were equally acute.

No way. Just buying some choice meat that ordinary people use can get me secretly targeted?

Vincent... To think I considered this person trustworthy, especially since I used the name of the Six Rings Tower. How could he be so audacious?

This grudge is well and truly established today!

His gaze shifted, falling on a bird in a nearby tree. Carl discreetly turned around.

Using birds and beasts for surveillance? A Bloodline Wizard?

As he neared the outskirts of the market, Carl tapped his foot lightly and shot forward, heading towards the market.

No matter who was spying, as long as he blended into the market crowd, he would naturally be safe.

The street was right before him.

Just as he was about to merge into the crowd with a swift movement, Carl suddenly retreated sharply, his expression turning grave.

A faint white light had appeared on the ground before him at some unknown point.

"A Witchcraft Trap!"

"Eh?"

He raised an eyebrow and scanned his surroundings, only to find that the environment around him had changed at some unknown point.

What should have been a narrow alleyway had suddenly transformed into a dense jungle.

This is... an Illusion Realm!

Carl had encountered similar Illusion Realms before; the one created by the Nef Magic Mirror was much like this.

However, he had entered the magic mirror voluntarily, allowing the Illusion Realm to reflect into his Spiritual Inner Sea. Now, he was being forcibly pulled in.

An Illusion Realm is still an Illusion Realm, especially one of such a low Tier. To think it could trap me is sheer folly.

Carl stood still, his eyes faintly flickering with lightning.

"Thunder God’s Fury!"

Rampant spiritual power transformed into a thunderbolt, striking at the entities affecting his Spiritual Inner Sea.

"SHRIEK!"

A shrill, strange cry rang out. Not far away, a ghost-headed monster clinging to the wall shrieked and fell to the ground.

The monster’s head had completely exploded.
