Witty Wife, Better Life-Chapter 870 - 860 Five Years Later
Chapter 870: Chapter 860 Five Years Later
Five years later...
"Yunfang, you’ve worked hard." Li Hongjun wouldn’t let go of his wife even with the kids watching them and grimacing in disgust.
"It isn’t hard, serving the people, right?" Shen Yunfang replied with a hearty, standard answer.
"Heh, you’re mischievous," said Li Hongjun, playfully pinching his wife’s nose with a hint of exasperation.
As he pinched, he couldn’t resist letting his large hand glide over his wife’s tender face. Just what was this woman made of? She was in her thirties yet still looked like she was in her twenties, with skin so soft it seemed water could be wrung from it, without a single wrinkle. Next to him, rugged and tough, the contrast was stark. Over the years, he felt like a mother hen, perpetually anxious whenever his wife stepped out, fearful that someone might bully her when he wasn’t watching.
Of course, such thoughts were fantasies of certain chauvinistic men. Though Shen Yunfang looked youthful, her temper wasn’t particularly sweet—thus far, anyone who crossed her rarely met a good end.
"Mom, Dad, can you not be so lovey-dovey in public? Consider our feelings, please. And aren’t we supposed to pack? At this rate, it’ll take us ten years to move out," complained Pangpang, nearly fifteen and in his rebellious phase, his words pointed and embarrassing.
Of course, something like a ’rebellious phase’ wouldn’t be tolerated. It simply meant you hadn’t been disciplined enough—more discipline and such phases would disappear. These were the words of Li Hongjun, a military man, and Pangpang’s character had been shaped by his firm hand.
Li Hongjun, his tender moment with his wife interrupted by his son, glared with wide eyes. Whose brat was this to interrupt? Didn’t he know how busy he was? After finally managing to come home early to cozy up to his wife and nurture their affection, why was he causing trouble?
"Don’t worry about us. Hurry up and take your sister to pack your things," he commanded authoritatively, glancing at his watch. "You have ten minutes starting now."
Pangpang rolled his eyes, muttering about always resorting to this tactic, then dragged his naive sister into the house to pack their luggage. Better not to watch—his parents were getting more childish by the day.
Alright, now that no one could disturb them, Li Hongjun softened instantly, reaching out to pull his wife back into his embrace.
"Wife, you’ve given up so much for my career, I owe you an apology. But rest assured, just let me work a few more years. Once I’ve shed my responsibilities, I’ll follow you wherever you wish to go," Li Hongjun showered her with sweet nothings, as if they cost him nothing.
A week prior, Li Hongjun was notified by his superiors that he was being transferred to a new military region where, as the highest leader, he’d oversee its complete operations. But this new military region seemed to be nestled in the depths of the mountains, with living conditions far worse than those in Z Province.
Li Hongjun’s transfer meant Shen Yunfang faced a choice: to leave everything behind and follow her man, or to forsake him and stay to nurture her own career.
For Li Hongjun—a question mulled over for many days—was not a question at all for Shen Yunfang.
Of course, her man’s promotion was a cause for celebration—commanding a new region was far better than playing second fiddle here. As for herself, she’d follow her man wherever he went. Careers and the like were just passing clouds...
That said, clouds that hung heavy and wouldn’t drift away still needed looking after. Nevertheless, after years of nurturing, Feiyang Farm had nearly perfected its operations. Sales had been stable for years due to the loyalty of regular customers. Thus, Shen Yunfang’s directive to her employees was simple: maintain the quality of the produce and preserve the relationships with their regular clientele.
So with stability assured, the farm would run just the same with or without Shen Yunfang at the helm.
As for the film production company she had hastily established to promote Feiyang Farm, it had unexpectedly flourished. Under Shen Yunfang’s leadership, it accidentally evolved into the leading film production company in the Governor of Hong Kong’s jurisdiction. Now with over two hundred artists on its roster, Shen Yunfang had managed to scoop up several who she foresaw would be hugely successful years down the line. Her motto was simple: if you’re going to do it, do it well. With the advantage of foresight, not seizing the opportunity would be like spurning money.
Over the past few years, the Governor of Hong Kong’s production company had consistently netted over five million dollars in profit for Shen Yunfang each year, with prospects looking ever brighter. This profit was on par with Feiyang’s, making it a golden goose.
Of course, while Shen Yunfang valued money, she wasn’t about to run off to start a company just for the money. After all, family always took precedence. So, over the years, her role in the film production company had been chiefly strategic, leaving management to professional managers, and finances to dedicated accounting firms. Spending more was worth the peace of mind.
Therefore, no matter where Shen Yunfang moved to, as long as there was a phone to stay in touch, her business would continue to thrive.
"You’ve been sweet-talking me for half a lifetime; can’t you come up with something new?" Shen Yunfang snuggled in her husband’s embrace, sweet content in her heart, but her words showed no trust, leaving no face for the man.
Since following him from the Capital to Z Province, Li Hongjun had been all promises. Ten years later, he remained a soldier, and she still had to pack her bags and follow him wherever he went. She guessed that’s how it would be for a lifetime.
Li Hongjun pushed the woman in his arms slightly away, "Wife, believe me one more time. I promise you, the next time we move, it will definitely be to settle in the Capital, and then we won’t move again." This was a man’s promise to his woman. And he was striving for that goal.
"You mean that, right? I’ve had a courtyard house in the Capital for several years, never stayed in it once. I’m really looking forward to it," Shen Yunfang cooed.
Initially, she had asked Lao Ma to keep an eye on courtyard houses in the Capital. Over the years, she had bought a total of eight such houses, renting most of them out while keeping one for her family to reside in. Yet, so many years had passed without her family living in it even once. They were always too busy, even during the holidays, to spend time in the Capital, leaving the house perennially vacant.
"Wife, just wait for me. Give me ten more years, and I will surely bring you and the kids back to the Capital."
That autumn, Li Hongjun set off on a new journey with his wife and children, leaving the Z Province Military Region to venture into Q Province’s mountains.
