Witty Wife, Better Life-Chapter 844 - 834 Goudan’s Request
Chapter 844: Chapter 834 Goudan’s Request
Goudan was dumbstruck when he heard the news, a truly unexpected joy. Once he recovered, he actually did a backflip there in the narrow living room to express his elation.
"Hey, you kid, why are you acting crazy all of a sudden?" Shen Yunfang also felt the happiness radiating from Goudan and started chuckling along.
"Erdan, Erdan, are you serious? You really bought me a house, in the city?" Goudan rushed over and grabbed Erdan’s hand, asking eagerly.
"No, no, you’ve got it wrong. I didn’t buy the house for you, I used your salary to buy it. But you still owe me several thousand for the house payment, and I will definitely make sure you pay it back," Shen Yunfang stated emphatically, pretending to be stern.
Shen Yunfang did not say she was simply giving him the house. The remaining debt must still be repaid. After all, favors given can turn to grudges held, and she certainly didn’t want to raise an ingrate.
Even if Goudan wasn’t an ingrate, if Wang Dan found out about this, then tomorrow, she could send both Erdan and Sandan over here, demanding that she buy houses for their marriages too. So it was best to nip that expectation in the bud right from the start.
"Yes, yes, I’ll pay it back, I’ll definitely pay it back," he nodded quickly like a pecking chicken.
"You can move into the house for now, and when your mom comes over, you just tell her that Xiaoying paid for most of it. If she doesn’t agree to the marriage, then the house will no longer be under the Li Family’s name. At that point, your mom will definitely not hesitate to marry you off to the Cui Family," Shen Yunfang said, her smile returning.
"Yeah, my mom will definitely agree now. Xiaoying, Xiaoying, come quick, we have our own house now!" Goudan was so overjoyed he hardly knew what to do, wanting only to share the moment with his love.
The distance between the living room and kitchen was nothing; hearing their conversation while washing dishes, how could Cui Ying possibly miss out on what was discussed? When she heard Erdan say that the house had been bought for Goudan, she too was thrilled.
Like the two of them being country kids, being able to buy a house and get married in the city was beyond their wildest dreams. Now, they could relocate their household registrations upon marriage and truly become city folk.
Hearing Goudan call out to her, Cui Ying quickly wiped her hands on her apron and came out.
"Erdan, I really can’t thank you enough. Without you, we wouldn’t know what to do," Cui Ying said with tears streaming down her face.
Cui Ying wasn’t without her own calculations; she knew her future mother-in-law didn’t like her, looking down on her poor family background. If it weren’t for Goudan being such a good person and fond of her, she wouldn’t have been so forthcoming. Now that they had this outcome, she was truly satisfied, feeling immense gratitude towards Erdan.
What was there to fear about owing money? They were both young, strong, and hardworking, earning more on the farm than most. As long as they worked hard and were united in purpose, just like Erdan said, they could pay off the debt in a year. Then they could have children without any delay.
In just this brief moment, Cui Ying had already planned out the next few years.
"What’s there to thank for, we’re family, after all. Besides, I bought the house with the money Goudan gave me; otherwise, I wouldn’t have even considered it," Shen Yunfang said, pulling her to sit down beside her. "Goudan is a kind-hearted kid. Even though your future mother-in-law is a bit tough, you two will work and live here and won’t always go back to your hometown. No need to worry too much, just focus on living your own good life. That’s what’s most important."
Wang Dan’s temperament could sometimes even be more than Shen Yunfang could handle as a sister-in-law, let alone being a mother-in-law. Nowadays, whenever Shen Yunfang saw Cui Ying, she felt a kindred sympathy, so she unconsciously passed on her own insights and experiences.
Cui Ying nodded earnestly, "Second Aunt, I know Goudan’s mom doesn’t like me, and it’s not like I’m after their family’s wealth. If it weren’t for Goudan being good to me, and a good person himself, I wouldn’t be throwing myself at them knowing full well they don’t fancy me. I was thinking, once we marry, we wouldn’t bother asking for anything from our families. We planned to rely solely on our own earnings; whatever we make, that’s the life we’ll live. I didn’t expect that you’d even prepare a house for us."
Understanding her situation, Shen Yunfang patted Cui Ying’s hand, "With that attitude, you won’t have to worry about having a hard life later on. Besides, you’ve got me and your Second Uncle here looking out for you. How could we possibly stand by and watch you struggle?" This was her way of offering assurance; although Goudan’s mother might not be up to par, they had her and a responsible Second Uncle to rely on.
As an elder, Shen Yunfang knew that the young couple needed to discuss their wedding plans, so she definitely had to ask about their intentions.
Cui Ying outlined the plans she and her partner had previously discussed.
Shen Yunfang listened and nodded. She understood their feelings and their desire to get married. They had set the wedding date for one month from then, and their visit today was not only to seek her advice on handling Wang Dan but also to ask if Second Aunt could arrange a single apartment for them. Having a place to settle down post-marriage would mean a lot, and as for the items needed for the wedding, they already had some savings. They planned to purchase the essentials with the budget they had and save up to fully furnish their home afterward.
Shen Yunfang nodded after listening and didn’t think it was a big deal that her nephew was seeking her help. She was there to solve problems for other employees, so why not for her own nephew? Providing them with an apartment for singles was hardly an issue. She agreed on the spot.
As they were leaving, she slipped Goudan five hundred yuan, "Take this. Getting married is a once-in-a-lifetime event. I know you’re not planning to go extravagant, so let Second Aunt take charge. The wedding feast can be held in our farm’s canteen. Once you’ve set the date, I’ll take care of the arrangements. This money is for buying some necessities for the wedding. Our Li Family can’t appear too shabby when taking a bride. You still need to purchase what’s necessary."
Goudan’s hand that was pushing the money back couldn’t move anymore, and suddenly, he hugged Shen Yunfang tightly, "Second Aunt, thank you. I’ll definitely be filial to you in the future, really."
"Don’t talk nonsense. I have a son; I don’t need your filial piety. Just focus on living your own life well. Now go, before there are no buses, and you’ll have to walk back." Shen Yunfang said with a laugh.
The next afternoon, Wang Dan made a call.
"Yunfang, did the Cui Family really buy Goudan a house in the city?" Wang Dan’s tone was full of skepticism. Such a poor family, where would they get the money to buy a house? And even if they did, it would be for a son, not a daughter.
When Shen Yunfang received the call from her son, she felt something was off and promptly called her brother’s wife to inquire.
"Um, I have heard something about that, but it’s not for Goudan. It’s for their own daughter." The implication being that if their daughter didn’t marry her son, that house would have nothing to do with them.
"Ah, so it is true. Have you seen the house? Is it a flat or an apartment? How big is it?" Wang Dan asked eagerly.
"It’s an apartment. It’s not very big, just over fifty square meters, but it’s in a good location, with primary and secondary schools, hospitals, and other amenities nearby. It’s a great place to live." Shen Yunfang didn’t mention that the real estate prices in that area were very high and that there would be a lot of compensation during redevelopment.
"Wow, that’s nice, that’s nice. I didn’t expect the Cui Family, always claiming to be penniless, to actually be so well-off inside," Wang Dan muttered to herself.
Shen Yunfang rolled her eyes and thought to herself that she better not behave like this when she becomes a mother-in-law in the future.
