Chapter 1416: Regular trades

Even if it was for the people that lived in this place to decide, Lin Fan did also have a part in all of this.

He was the one that had brought down the hydra and that brought him quite a bit of fame among the indigenous people.

That was why he was the center of the celebration that they held.

It seemed like everyone wanted a part of him with how they all came up to toast him.

If he was someone else, then he would have gotten drunk a long time ago. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

But since it was Lin Fan, he knew all of the tricks to make sure that he didn’t become drunk. It was actually quite easy for Lin Fan since all he had to do was use his void power to absorb the alcohol.

With his control, it was easy for him to use the void power in his throat to absorb all of the alcohol.

Once everyone seemed drunk, that was when Lin Fan went over to the gathering of chiefs.

The chiefs celebrated just like everyone else, but it seemed like they restrained themselves since they were the ones that were in charge.

That changed when Lin Fan came to drink with them.

"How are you still going?" That was all that they could say in slurred voices after drinking with Lin Fan.

Only when they were drunk like this did he finally make his move.

"I’ve heard that you’ve traded with outsiders before. May I ask what kind of things you’ve traded with them before?"

The chiefs looked surprised to have been asked this and none of them seemed to answer this question as they raised one brow to look at Lin Fan.

Lin Fan didn’t panic seeing the doubt in their eyes, he just calmly said to them, "I’m a sort of merchant myself along with my work as an adventurer. So I was hoping that we could also form a working relationship."

The chiefs looked less wary when they heard this, but it wasn’t as if they completely dropped their guards just after hearing this.

Still, it seemed like they were at least willing to talk about this with Lin Fan as they started sharing details about the trades that they made with the outsiders.

As Lin Fan expected, it didn’t seem like there were any regular trades between the two sides. After all, it wasn’t as if this was the safest place to come to, so it wasn’t as if there were many merchants that were willing to take the risk to come to this place.

The only reason that they did was because there were some rare things that could only be found here. If it wasn’t for that fact, then they really wouldn’t have come to this place filled with poison.

Which was actually funny since it was poison that they came here for.

The indigenous people here had lived with poison for so long that they had already gotten used to it. At the same time, they knew how to control it to a certain extent with the way that they extracted it from the serpents that lived here.

There were very few things to eat in this place to begin with, so they naturally had to learn how to hunt and extract poison from the serpents or else there really wouldn’t have been a way to survive.

But the poison that came from this place could be considered a hot commodity with how potent it was.

It was something that was very useful in many different situations.

That was why it had a high price outside.

The problem was that the merchants that came to this place didn’t tell the indigenous people about this. When they traded with the indigenous people, they made sure to hide the true value of their goods and ripped them off.

But in the end, it wasn’t as if the indigenous people knew anything about the outside world other than what they were told. Even if they wanted a better deal, it wasn’t as if they could get one since they didn’t even know what the items they sold were worth.

Though in the first place, it wasn’t as if they relied on the trades with the outsiders to sustain themselves.

Only now that they had reached a new era in their life, it wasn’t as if they would live in the same way as before.

Lin Fan was the one that would change things.

"Would you be willing to engage in regular trades?"

The chiefs were surprised to hear this suggestion, but it also made them a bit wary. After all, it wasn’t as if they had a reason to agree to this and it seemed like it was being offered too conveniently.

It made them wonder if Lin Fan really had their best interests in heart.

It wasn’t as if they had known him for a long time, they only knew that he was a S Rank Adventurer.

Lin Fan wasn’t bothered by the way that they looked at him since he knew that there was one thing that he could give them that the others couldn’t.

"I’ll tell you now that the merchants that you’ve been trading with have been ripping you off."

"Huh?" The chiefs were caught off guard when they heard this.

When Lin Fan finished what he had to say, there were frowns that appeared on the faces of the chiefs.

There was some doubt that was in their eyes, but more than doubt there was anger that was on their faces. As for who their anger was directed at, it was clearly the merchants that had tricked them previously.

It took them a minute to calm down before the chiefs asked, "So you’re saying that you can offer us a better price, but how do we know that you’re not lying to us?"

Lin Fan just said with a simple shrug, "Do I have a reason to lie to you?"

Strange looks appeared on the faces of the chiefs, but it wasn’t as if there was anything that they could say in response to this.

His answer was very simple, but the way that he said it made them think that there was nothing wrong with what he said. After all, he was correct when he said that he had no reason to lie to them.

This was someone that was strong enough to defeat the hydra that they had suffered under for so long, someone like that definitely had no need to lie to them. If he wanted, he could easily take whatever he wanted from them.

It was just that they felt a bit off about the way that he said this.

It really felt like they were being played in some way...

But in the end, the chiefs decided that it was better to work with someone like Lin Fan who actually told them the truth instead of with the merchants who had lied to them all this time.

Someone with Lin Fan’s strength really had no reason to lie to them and it seemed like he had a good personality with how he treated them.

Though of course, this all depended on the things that Lin Fan brought to them.

If he didn’t honour his promises and didn’t bring the things that they wanted, then it wasn’t as if they had to honour what they had said.

After all, this kind of business deal relied on both sides holding up their ends of the bargain and wasn’t something that could be decided by a single side.

Lin Fan wasn’t worried about this when he saw the looks on their faces. After all, he knew that it wasn’t as if he would be the one that would have to handle this matter.

As long as he tossed this to Yue Lan, she would be able to handle it.

She was the one that had organized their business on the magic continent and the one that supported Rokuko in most of these matters. So in the end, it would be up to her to decide how much they would give these indigenous people.

At the same time, it was up to her to decide what they could do with the things that they could get from the indigenous people.

She was the one that knew far more than Lin Fan when it came to matters like this.

Though there was a part of Lin Fan that felt bad about tossing this matter to her.

Even so, it seemed like he really was setting up all different kinds of businesses with how he kept building more and more relationships with each task.

It seemed like by the end of it, he might even create a network that would span all across the magic continent. After all, the tasks that he had to do were spread out all over the continent itself.

So that meant that he really would be taken all over the place.

"Other than the items from these creatures that I have to defeat, is she trying to raise my reputation as well?"

It really seemed like there was more to the tasks that Haku had set up for him.

Lin Fan really didn’t know what she was planning, but he did know that he was benefitting from this. The more that he benefitted from it, the more uneasy he couldn’t help feeling.

After all, it really felt like there was some kind of endgame that Haku was pursuing by sending him to all of these places and doing all of these things.
