Witch, Fireball and the Evil God of Steam-Chapter 686 - 78: Sheepdog
The next day.
The castle was as usual, and Ethan had become the backbone of the "Red Eyes." Besides Little Bellamo, Morganna's other children gathered around Ethan early in the morning, eager to learn more about the food club.
Mirror Dark Furnace City seemed calm. After last night's unpleasant departure, "Hunger" did not take further action. The "Red Eyes" always led a leisurely life here, where they didn't need to go out to earn money or feel survival pressure. Their daily activities consisted of wandering around Furnace City, and with the introduction from Morganna's offspring, Ethan gained a clearer view of the city's interior.
The buildings were fully equipped; aside from lacking human habitation, nearly the entire Dark Furnace City was perfectly replicated.
This offered the ghouls plenty of entertainment options, with the library being their most frequented location.
"It's just a shame there's no theater troupe in the opera house."
Peter sighed while showing Ethan the luxurious decor inside the opera house.
Duke Bellamo was an opera enthusiast, often spending heavily to invite troupes from the Gallog Kingdom to perform at the city's opera house. He had refurbished the troupe three times, dedicated to providing the best environment for performers and opera-goers alike.
"I wanted the humans from the ranch to perform here, but Mother doesn't want us getting too close to them."
Peter shrugged, "Humans are all crafty and deceitful; only family can be trusted."
This mirror city was their home, and Morganna didn't want any humans to enter it, with Valerie being the sole exception.
Ethan felt that everything he discovered in the mirror city directly or indirectly confirmed Ave's conjectures.
"Hunger" didn't just transform Morganna; it also provided her family with a good living environment. She became the city's ruler, no longer having to live under others.
The day passed quickly as they wandered around the vast city until afternoon. Ethan also found many magical aspects of the city—the goods in the grocery store would automatically replenish ten minutes after being taken. Despite the absence of waiters, the restaurants offered normal ordering services, with each table holding a menu. Once an order was placed, steaming dishes would appear out of thin air.
However, the ghouls didn't like the cooked food of humans, finding it as tasteless as tree bark, which was dictated by the ghoul genes.
Ethan tried to uncover some clues from the city but failed.
The memories regarding Shadow Arrow had vanished thoroughly. He could only deduce that they must have met during his previous entry into this world, where his goal was clear—to implant a thought in Lindong's mind, which he successfully did.
After that, as the person in charge of the project, he naturally retired. In Shadow Arrow's eyes, unaware of the cause and effect, it indeed seemed like abandonment.
This made it difficult for Ethan to integrate into the ghouls' joyful atmosphere; they seemed to possess endless energy, running through the city. What he witnessed were the "Red Eyes" everyday lifestyle.
Ethan strolled along the ghoul-filled streets, completely accustomed to the presence of these dark creatures, which were no different from the pedestrians on Dark Furnace City's bustling streets, until the castle's bell interrupted his thoughts. Morganna's children collectively paused their play, faces turning solemn.
Something had happened.
Mother was summoning them, with the bell signaling them to immediately return to the castle while warning them that danger was approaching.
Danger?
Could it refer to those demon hunters living in the village?
This puzzled them, as those sheep in the pen couldn't even break through the city's outer defense of low-level ghouls, and time had long since eroded their will. Their exploration frequency to the outskirts had lessened until they ceased searching for a way out.
Van Fleet managed the entire pen well, and under his administration, the humans living there had all become docile sheep. They found it hard to imagine a group of sheep suddenly gathering to attack.
Upon entering the castle, Ethan found Lady Morganna standing in the most prominent position, scrutinizing them with stern eyes, accompanied by an unexpected visitor.
Van Fleet had come to the castle, his gaze evasive, unable to meet Ethan's eyes.
"This is Mr. Van Fleet, he has come here to say something."
Lady Morganna announced authoritatively, signaling her children to remain silent and keep their distance from Ethan, returning to her side.
She stepped forward, shielding all her children behind her.
They were a family with noble Blackrave Clan blood, and the ghouls mentioned that they would adopt a collective decision-making approach on any major issue.
"You may begin, Mr. Van Fleet."
Van Fleet hesitated, yet under Morganna's stern gaze, he finally spoke, "He's a human; I don't know his purpose for sneaking into the castle, but I must come to warn you."
