Who Let Him Play Yu-Gi-Oh!-Chapter 83: Insane Combo
Chapter 83 - 83: Insane Combo
"'Heavy Storm'—destroy all Spells and Traps on the field!"
The ultimate backrow clearer swept the field. Kira's Insect Barrier and three set cards were blown away.
"At the moment of destruction, chain one Trap—'No Entry!!' All Attack Position monsters become Defense Position.
I'll turn 'Don Zaloog' to Defense Position."
[Don Zaloog, ATK 1400→DEF 1500]
Another card being blown away was clearly "Bottomless Trap Hole"—even just seeing its afterimage sent chills through the crowd, making them glad they weren't facing Kira.
"The last card you destroyed was the Spell 'Spell Calling.' When this card is destroyed by an opponent's effect, I can set any two Spell Cards from my deck." (Anime effect)
A card Jaden Yuki used in the anime; in the real game, it was nerfed, but in the anime, you could set any two Spells.
"I'll set these two."
Kira picked two cards from his deck.
"I set 'Reinforcement of the Army' and 'Monster Reborn.'"
"But now you have no attack lock or traps!" Shuichi shouted. "From my hand, 'Hundred-Footed Horror'—when your opponent has monsters and you don't, you can Normal Summon this without tribute, but its ATK is halved!
So, I summon ''Hundred-Footed Horror'!"
[Hundred-Footed Horror, ATK 1300]
"Next, Equip Spell—'Axe of Fools'! The equipped monster gains 1000 ATK, but its effects are negated!
With its effect negated, 'Hundred-Footed Horror's ATK returns to 2600! With 'Axe of Fools,' ATK increases to 3600!"
[Hundred-Footed Horror, ATK 1300→3600]
"Then I activate Equip Spell 'Nitro Unit'! This can only be equipped to your opponent's monster. When that monster is destroyed in battle and sent to the grave, you take damage equal to its ATK!
I equip 'Nitro Unit' to 'Don Zaloog'!"
Don Zaloog, now in defense, had a bomb strapped to him—his face full of despair.
"Hundred-Footed Horror, attack 'Don Zaloog'!"
[Don Zaloog, DEF 1500]
The giant insect easily crushed the unlucky boss, triggering the Nitro Unit's explosion. A blast of fire swept half the field, the shockwave hitting Kira.
[Kira, LP 3000→1600]
"Set two cards, end turn!" Shuichi declared.
"..."
"As expected of Watanabe," the big-breasted senpai commented, "He broke through that situation and regained control."
"Exactly. And his backrow is solid—he's stabilized." A Duel Club student beside her agreed. "That freshman had some... uh, special tricks, but this is probably his limit.
Still, he's already done great—the judges will surely pass him."
Watanabe Shuichi thought the same.
On his field now was a 3600-ATK Hundred-Footed Horror, and of his two set cards, one was "Security Orb," which can switch an attacking monster to defense and destroy a monster if it's destroyed by an opponent's Spell/Trap—a solid defensive trap.
The other was "Enchanted Javelin," which heals you by the attacking monster's ATK—a defensive measure.
His defense was airtight.
But he didn't realize—
The moment he let Kira trigger that double Spell search, the duel was over.
Kira: "My turn, draw."
The formula for victory was complete.
"I activate 'Giant Trunade': return all Spells and Traps on the field to their owners' hands!"
A windstorm swept the field, bouncing Kira's set "Monster Reborn" and both of Shuichi's set cards.
Shuichi pursed his lips as his two traps returned to his hand.
His backrow defense was gone, but he thought it was okay. Even if Hundred-Footed Horror lost its 1000 ATK, it would still be at 2600, which was plenty. And he still had 2600 LP.
No way you can OTK me, right?
Kira drew one of the cards he'd set last turn: "I activate 'Reinforcement of the Army,' adding a Level 4 or lower Warrior from my deck to my hand.
I add 'Gearfried the Iron Knight.'"
A classic lower-level monster—iconic in DM, a staple by GX, even little kids used it.
Kira: "'Gearfried the Iron Knight,' normal summon!"
[Gearfried the Iron Knight, ATK 1800]
"Next, I activate the Spell Card 'Monster Reborn' that returned to my hand! Reviving the 'Mythical Beast Cerberus' I discarded earlier!"
[Mythical Beast Cerberus, ATK 1400]
With both on the field, any seasoned player would recognize the warning signs of that infamous combo—maybe even ready to scoop.
Because seeing those two together, everyone knows what's coming.
One of the earliest infinite combos in Yu-Gi-Oh! history.
Shuichi frowned: "Summoning so many weaklings, what are you up to?"
"Don't worry, this is the last card."
Kira waved his hand.
"Equip Spell—'Butterfly Dagger – Elma'!"
[Equip Spell: Butterfly Dagger – Elma
Effect: Equipped monster gains 300 ATK. When this card equipped to a monster is destroyed and sent to the graveyard, return it to the hand.]
At a glance, it seems like a weak, worthless card. New players might wonder why it's so infamous and banned forever.
No one on-site realized what Kira was about to do.
"'Butterfly Dagger – Elma' equips to 'Gearfried.' ATK up by 300. But Gearfried's effect: he can't be equipped. Any Equip Card equipped to him is destroyed immediately.
So 'Butterfly Dagger – Elma' is destroyed."
Shuichi: "?"
Destroying your own Equip—what's the point?
"Now, Elma's second effect: when destroyed while equipped, it returns to your hand.
So, I retrieve Elma from the graveyard."
Shuichi frowned: "But even so, what's the point?"
"There is a point," Kira said. "I still have 'Mythical Beast Cerberus' on the field. Whenever you or your opponent activates a Spell, place a Spell Counter on it.
And, it gains 500 ATK for each Spell Counter."
[Mythical Beast Cerberus, ATK 1400→1900]
Shuichi: "Only 500 ATK? That's nothing... Wait!?"
He realized something was wrong.
Wait, could it be—
"'Butterfly Dagger – Elma,' equip to Gearfried again. Destroyed by Gearfried's effect, Elma returns to hand.
Another Spell activated, Cerberus gains another 500 ATK."
[Mythical Beast Cerberus, ATK 1900→2400]
"You—you..." Shuuichi began to tremble.
Even the slowest students now realized what was happening.
It's an infinite loop!
One of the earliest, simplest infinite loops in Yu-Gi-Oh! history.
Keep equipping Elma to Gearfried, Gearfried destroys it, it returns to hand, repeat infinitely.
With each loop, Cerberus's ATK increases by 500—no limit!
In actual tournaments, this combo didn't dominate before Elma's ban in March 2005, but it was still infamous enough to be banned forever. Infinite loops are always banned.
But as a combo, it's always satisfying to pull off once.
And in the anime world, there's no time limit on a turn—so you can loop as much as you like.
Watching Cerberus's ATK skyrocket, Shuichi was nearly speechless, trembling all over.
"Kouhai, you—"
"Elma again, Cerberus's ATK rises!"
[Mythical Beast Cerberus, ATK 12400]
He was almost in tears.
He couldn't even imagine the pain of taking a hit from that.
He wanted to say, "Kouhai, did I do something to you?"
Was this necessary?
The other students were just numb, the host's jaw nearly on the floor.
Even Chazz, who thought he'd seen it all, was stunned.
He stared for a long time, muttering to himself.
"Just who are you?"
The whole room fell silent, all eyes on Kira as he looped like a broken record. freēnovelkiss.com
[Mythical Beast Cerberus, ATK 22400]
"Okay, that should be enough."
He could keep going, but it was tiring.
To be honest, Shuichi hadn't surrendered or run away yet—props to him.
So, in thanks for not fleeing—
"'Mythical Beast Cerberus,' attack 'Hundred-Footed Horror'!"
[Hundred-Footed Horror, ATK 2600]
Shuichi: "..."
A hellish roar, a terrifying impact swept over him.
[Shuichi, LP 2600→0]
