Who Cares About Him When I'm Married to the Richest Man?-Chapter 80: Jade Fisher Slits Her Wrists
Elara was taken aback, furrowing her brow as she looked at her. "I don’t understand what you’re talking about."
Her only period of disconnect in life was during those years she was married to Mason Jacobs. The life during those years was vastly different from what she had known, as if she had accidentally stumbled into another world, witnessing things she never imagined. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
For example, an accident at the Jacobs Corporation construction site, where a worker fell to his death due to equipment issues. However, after the company’s legal team intervened, the incident was ruled as worker error, and the company only offered twenty thousand in compensation.
Or like Kylie Dalton competing with a wealthy lady, both scrambling over a piece of jade valued at three hundred thousand at an auction, only to see the price forced up to six million, eventually snatched away by the wealthy lady. Kylie returned in fury and ordered a set of jewelry worth five million from a jewelry store the next day.
Another incident involved Rosalind Jacobs, who during her sophomore year, had a conflict with a classmate. The girl was originally very pretty, with excellent grades, and had already joined the party, with a bright future ahead. But Rosalind hired someone to scar the girl’s face and even attempted to have someone coerce her into shooting a video. In the end, Mason paid the girl’s family five hundred thousand to settle the matter privately.
Such things happened repeatedly in the two years she was married to Mason.
It was only then she realized that wealthy people could do whatever they wanted, even if it meant disregarding human life.
This is also the reason why, after her divorce from Mason, she consistently avoided direct confrontation with the Jacobs Family.
Yet, Elara had never done anything morally bankrupt in her thirty years of life. Especially not as Jade Fisher accused her of something so monstrous.
When did she ever have a death on her conscience?
Jade’s cat-like eyes stared at her coldly, her lips curling into a chilling smile. "Yes, something so trivial to you. How could you remember a girl who died because of you?"
Elara furrowed her brow even tighter. "Can you explain clearly? When did I..."
Before she could finish, Jade let out a cold laugh, "I won’t let you go." Then she left haughtily.
Elara felt utterly baffled, feeling wrongfully accused of having a death on her conscience, and being hated inexplicably.
Furthermore, Jade always gave her an eerie feeling, leaving her somewhat uneasy.
She returned home with these worries and ran into Zion Fitzwilliam downstairs. He was dressed casually, as if he had just finished exercising, breathing slightly heavily and with sweat on his face. He glanced at her and asked, "Did you run into some trouble?"
Elara couldn’t help but laugh, "That’s amazing, isn’t it? Are you a worm in my stomach? How could you tell?"
Zion smiled slightly but didn’t respond to that question.
How could he tell her that over the years, he had kept a girl in his heart, pondering over her repeatedly, familiar with her every move and understanding her every expression?
How could he not see the deep worry that clouded her eyes at this moment?
Elara’s mind was in a turmoil, so when Zion asked, she poured her thoughts out to him, from the recent surge of orders over the past week, the department meeting today, to being targeted by Jade, and those few inexplicable words.
Zion’s eyes flickered slightly, "Are you being targeted because of your recent good performance?"
Elara shook her head, "These achievements came out of nowhere, I can’t really take credit for them. It’s natural for her to be unhappy, but it’s obvious that she is targeting me for reasons other than mere dissatisfaction. She said I have a death on my conscience, I truly don’t understand."
Zion comforted her, "If you don’t understand, then don’t bother for now. Since she’s set her sights on you, she will definitely have more moves. Just be prepared and wait for her to make a slip."
Elara thought about it and indeed, that seemed to be the case, there wasn’t much else she could do.
So she’d handle whatever came her way pragmatically.
Elara felt a sudden rush of calm acceptance, as if feeling "life and death are predetermined, wealth is in the hands of fate," and her mood improved quite a bit.
The two entered the elevator, and while it ascended, Zion casually asked, "Can you show me the orders you signed recently?"
Elara thought he wanted to help her check for any issues with them, since they were both in sales, he might be able to provide insights, so she decisively nodded, "I have them in my email, I’ll send them to you now."
Zion quickly received her email, glanced at it, then forwarded it to Assistant Harris.
"Call each company on the list, thank them, and for the company’s new project developments, consider including them accordingly."
On the other end, Assistant Harris opened the list and was immediately perplexed; they were all small, obscure companies. Why had the boss suddenly turned so benevolent?
Charity work?
Those words crossed his mind, and Assistant Harris shivered, finding it frightening, opting for a different guess instead.
However, one thing was certain: this matter must be related to Miss Hale again.
No matter the doubts in his mind, Assistant Harris dared not delay and arranged it immediately.
This led to Elara receiving numerous client follow-up calls the next day at work. Initially, she had pen and paper ready to keep notes in case there were issues to discuss.
But unexpectedly, the first three calls were simply thanks and compliments.
Praising her beauty and kindness, remarking on her promising future, it was all pleasantries without any analytical value.
Elara spent the entire morning fielding calls, feeling vaguely that something wasn’t quite right but couldn’t pin down the reason.
The orders seemed random, as did the calls.
Despite that, the commission from these orders was real and reflected in her account.
She originally expected to earn slightly over twenty thousand this month, combining a basic salary of four thousand and performance bonuses, which was a decent level of business.
But with the recent orders, she was set to make a substantial amount.
Based on the extra commission promised by the department head, she secretly calculated she could earn at least eight to nine million.
Even the department head couldn’t finalize this and told her privately, her paycheck had to go through the finance department for higher management to decide upon.
Elara wasn’t concerned as she didn’t really believe these orders were of her doing.
On the day salaries were distributed company-wide, Jade Fisher did something utterly shocking.
She suddenly rushed to Elara’s workstation, in front of the entire department, accusing Elara of opportunism and berating her thoroughly, before attempting to slit her wrists.
Of course, she didn’t succeed and was rushed to the hospital by frantic colleagues, while Elara was called into the meeting room by the department leaders.
As she pushed the door open, she found inside, along with the department head, were two unfamiliar faces.
