Who Cares About Him When I'm Married to the Richest Man?-Chapter 79: Don’t Forget You Still Have a Life on Your Conscience
Moreover, this surge in orders wasn’t just a flash in the pan. For the following week, Elara’s team had a thick stack of orders every day. Vera and Jean Dunn were celebrating, with their tails practically wagging in delight.
Though they were happy, everyone knew these orders were thanks to Elara. So, when Friday came to report the outstanding employee, Vera put down Elara’s name.
During Monday’s routine commendation meeting, the department head sang praises for Elara. Not only did he raise her commission rate for the month by three points, but he also appointed her as the deputy team leader of Vera’s group.
Vera’s end-of-year transfer to the company headquarters was already a sure deal, so promoting Elara to deputy team leader clearly meant she was being groomed to take over as team leader.
Elara had only been with the company for a little over three months, rising from a mere business assistant to a business supervisor, truly a remarkable leap. No one had ever managed to climb three ranks in such a short time in the company.
In the meeting room, after hearing the minister’s decision, all the business department employees coincidentally looked at Elara with doubts and admiration. In the far corner, a female employee had a flash of resentment in her eyes.
As the minister was about to adjourn the meeting, the woman in the corner suddenly stood up and said brashly, "Minister, Elara’s character is problematic. I don’t like that she’s taking Supervisor Ford’s position!"
All eyes turned to her at once.
Elara also looked over. She didn’t know this person well; she was a colleague from another team. Elara hadn’t had any interactions with her, only knew this woman was named Jade Fisher and had joined the company a few months before her, but her business skills had always lagged.
Even last week, the minister publicly warned Jade that if her business didn’t pick up by the next month, she’d be packing her things and leaving.
Despite the general dissatisfaction with Elara, Jade’s stand incited much excitement among the others. They didn’t think Jade could topple Elara, but they were more than happy to watch Elara get riled up. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
Several seasoned employees, known for their office politics prowess, chimed in sarcastically, "Actually, Jade’s point has merit. Elara’s promotion is too fast. What’s so special about her? Who knows how those orders came about."
"Her business skills were average, and suddenly orders just fell from the sky. How can people accept that?"
"She’s a rich kid on a life’s experiences trip. Isn’t that different from us? If I had such a good family background, I’d have them throwing orders my way too."
Vera and Jean Dunn’s expressions darkened upon hearing this. Vera stood up, looked at them sternly, and said coldly, "Don’t say Elara relies on her family background. Even if she does, so what? Good family background and luck are also abilities. If you’re dissatisfied, why don’t you come forward? I bet some are just good at gossiping behind others but don’t dare show their real abilities!"
Jean Dunn also spoke in Elara’s defense, "You know how hard Elara works. She’s always the first in the office and the last to leave. Even without this week’s surge in orders, her previous achievements were enough for her to take over Vera’s role."
Jade Fisher snorted, "You said it yourself, it’s a surge this week. Who knows how those orders surged? If she truly wants everyone to be convinced, she should document the process of how she got those orders and share it with the entire department for learning!"
Elara remained silent.
In fact, this week’s surge in orders left her a bit bewildered. She didn’t know where the orders came from but was quite certain she hadn’t contacted these clients before. There must be a catalyst that suddenly brought them to her.
In other words, this impressive outcome wasn’t really from her own abilities. She could understand her colleagues’ dissatisfaction.
If it were her, she probably wouldn’t accept it either.
Right when the minister announced she’d take over Supervisor Ford’s role, she sensed it wouldn’t be smooth sailing. Sure enough, someone opposed it.
Despite being doubted by so many, she didn’t feel embarrassed, but rather hoped the minister would reverse his decision.
She was aware of her limits, and though her business abilities were strong before marrying Mason Jacobs, after two to three years of delay, her professional skills had been neglected for too long.
Plus, she had only been in the company for three months, and what she had learned was still limited. Now she was crazily learning and adapting, and she wasn’t confident about replacing Supervisor Ford.
Though Vera and Jean Dunn defended Elara, the meeting room was filled with about seventy people, many still unhappy with her, making the place buzz like restless flies.
"Enough!"
The minister’s displeased voice rang out, silencing all noise as his sharp gaze swept the room with a cold chuckle.
"Not convinced? That’s fine. Want to challenge? Also fine. If anyone can match Elara’s order amount within a month, I’ll promote them directly, regardless of rank. Fair enough? Anyone want to take the challenge?"
Everyone suddenly lowered their heads, not daring to meet his gaze.
Even Jade Fisher just opened her mouth only to close it again.
What a joke – the order amount Elara achieved in a week nearly surpassed the business department’s performance for half a year. Who would dare take on that challenge?
If they could achieve such performance, would they still be here squabbling over a small supervisor position?
With no one daring to question any longer, the meeting naturally ended.
As Elara walked out of the meeting room, she subconsciously glanced at Jade Fisher.
For some reason, Jade gave her an uneasy feeling, as if Jade’s hostility towards her was inexplicably intense.
It seemed not as simple as just work-related issues.
Vera and Jean Dunn comforted her, "A bunch of green-eyed monsters who can’t stand to see others succeed. Elara, don’t let it get to you. You’re really outstanding."
Elara smiled, "I won’t punish myself with others’ mistakes. Don’t worry; I’ll keep working hard. One day my capabilities will match my aura."
Jean Dunn admired her greatly, not to mention her tenacity, which truly impressed her.
Soon it was time to clock out.
Just as Elara was about to step out of the company’s entrance, a cold voice suddenly called out from behind, "Elara, stop right there."
Elara turned to look; it was the person who led the trouble against her in the meeting room today, Jade Fisher.
Jade was very slim, with a long face, thick and large nose, and a wide mouth, resembling a middle-aged woman worn down by family issues.
However, Elara knew Jade wasn’t actually old. She had seen Jade’s name badge, indicating she had just turned twenty-five, still just a kid to Elara.
Young people often have aspirations far greater than reality. She too had those moments of defying everyone, so she wasn’t angered by Jade’s public harassment in the afternoon.
What intrigued her more was why Jade sought to trouble her.
Therefore, she stopped, turned to face Jade, and asked in an even tone, "Is there something you need from me?"
Jade sneered coldly, "So much time has passed, have you forgotten you still carry a life on your shoulders?"
